>The self insert main character is a piece of shit
I've heard that it was meant to shit on players instead, but they were so incompetent everyone thought he was a self-insert.
True, could just be ass-covering, but I like this version more, the thought of someone trying to shit on others only to have it all blow back on him is funnier.
The only reason people think Alex is a self insert is because of that picture where some guy is cosplaying Alex and they think he's the dev. He's not.
It's clear that the actual dev, Andrew, dislikes Alex because Alex gets shat on a lot and a lot of Alex's dialogue is written with this sort of dishonest tone. You know when a /misc/gay is falseflagging as a leftist? That's the vibe a lot of Alex's dialogue give off.
Yeah a bit, but at the same I kind of appreciated the whole twist of it being less about the games themselves and more about the assumptions that the narrator desperately tries to make about them and their creator. It's definitely an artsy walking sim, but it kept my attention until the end.

Final Fight Streetwise
Even when a game is up its own ass, the REAL pretentiousness is in articles written about it which are 10-100 worse. Because of this, I tend to forgive the games and find them inoffensive in comparison, especially when it feels like more people are talking about the essays than the game itself.
the ones that talk shit about the culture that rose them to such prominence as to have the ability to talk shit in the first place even against their own.
If Ganondorf was the MC of YIIK none of that bullshit would have happened.
>Stanley Parable
>Gone Home
Guys?? I'm YIIKing out!
YIIK is unironically great
lol, no.
The writing sucks
The self insert main character is a piece of shit
The gameplay is utter ass
the second point, things can be more fun that way
third point, isn't it an RPG?
Yeah lets take turn based and make it slower than Final Fantasy IX combat just because, it's subversive and shit
>third point, isn't it an RPG?
it's slow, even by RPG standards
>The writing sucks
Filtered
>can't even keep the fricking names consistent in a story that contradicts itself
Yeah, shit writing sure filtered him. Eh anon?

if you believe that one rant the dev went on

What do you mean by pretentious?
Nobody knows what the word means anymore, but if I HAD to guess: Overzealous attempt to seem deep and impactful.
So you do know what that word means then. Bit pretentious of you.
Outer Wilds
How is Outer Wilds pretentious at all?
Isn't this game becoming somewhat of a cult classic?
'becoming' implies it isn't one already
The "Everyman''
What about night in the woods?
Braid was probably the most pretentious game I've played. Recently, Signalis. I enjoyed them both greatly.
The Beginner's Guide, by far.
But I liked it?
Yeah a bit, but at the same I kind of appreciated the whole twist of it being less about the games themselves and more about the assumptions that the narrator desperately tries to make about them and their creator. It's definitely an artsy walking sim, but it kept my attention until the end.
