What would Southeast Asia Total War look like?
Literally everything from 1400 to 1700.
This is basically the height of the Spanish Empire so it will never happen.
And everything after 1820 aprox. So basically vitctorian era or pre WW1 stuff.
Try the great war mod, it's fun, the opening stages of the war were a reskined napoleonic war
I've seen a lot of videos about it looks like the jankiest mod ever made.
If you want a World War game you'd have to change the games completely because Total War was made with pitched battles in mind.
Above all an "interesting title" would feature re-evaluation and evolution of the mechanics, as well as polish: Pharaoh's problem for instance isn't the time period per se, it's that it's shit. There are many designs for Total War series alone that were featured in the older titles but were scrapped never to be reintroduced, starting with Risk-style campaign movement from M1/S1, governors and robust trait-acquisition system in M1/R1, armies being able to move without attached generals, Avatar Conquest MP-mode in Shogun 2, etc, etc. But I would especially want to see more simulation: for instance, horse archers and checkerbox formation archer spam are OP in the modern titles especially, but this comes down to back rank archers raining down indirect fire at maximum range being just as effective as archers shooting directly into enemy flanks at almost point-blank range, so better simulation here would solve balance issues while at the same time making for more interesting tactical decisions in positioning ranged units.
As for unexplored time periods, pike and shot, Victorian period and WW1 (although that would especially require reimagining many of the mechanics) come to mind first. Although Medieval 3/Rome 3/Empire 2 would make the most sense.
Bronze age but an actual good game
shogun 2 but expand the map to contain all of asia
Prehistoric era
these two only, everything else is lame spearmani shit.

Everyone knows that they're just waiting until they have a new engine before they cover the Finno-Korean Hyperwar
A game set in the beginning, during and decline of the Mongol Invasions would be great.
You got:
>Genghis Khan fighting to unite the bickering Mongol Tribes. The Jadarans led by his former friend/now bitter rival Jamukga and his former ally Toghrul of the Keraits.
>China is divided between 3 states: The Song Dynasty, The Jin Dynasty and the Xi-Xia Dynasty.
>Central Asia and Persia where the Khwarizem Empire, the Kara Khitai and the Ghurid Dynasty are fighting each other.
>The Crusades in the Middle East where the Ayyubid Sultanate fights against the Crusader expeditions of the Kingdoms of England and France and the Holy Roman Empire. And the Eastern Roman Empire dealing with the above bullshit and Venice's fuckery.
>And Europe where England, France and the HRE are fighting each other.
