The dust that kicks up when you shoot anything in the first FEAR is amazing. Why didn't more games do this since? It's a really cool feature that makes gunfights feel way more dynamic since you can't just spray everyone down without obscuring the entire area. I want that effect in a VR shooter.
>Why didn't more games do this since?
First consoles and casualization happened.
Now the nu-era devs are already struggling to get even 2007-tier graphics to run over 30fps on modern systems.
True. In general, the modern AAA studios / publishers have for long aimed to deliver the bare minimum acceptable product to the consumers.
Consumers that have long ago already accepted pure mediocrity as the gold standard. I've even seen some literal 1997-tier tech and ideas get re-introduced as some sort of cutting edge innovations in recent years.
The gunplay was much worse. Enemies spurted blood but otherwise didn’t react to being shot, which made the combat really feel like shooting tanky blood bags. Scares, graphics and art direction were all incredible though.
FEAR2 is still great imo, but FEAR 3 really did drop the ball. FEAR 1 expats are good for the extra FEAR gameplay, but are super scuffed in every other regard. Both frick up the story hard, and the levels are pretty nonsensical.
There's a lot of stuff about the guns in FEAR that's pretty dumb, but I really think it still has some of the best bullet effects in any game. Even though the enemies are really spongy on the highest difficulty (everyone takes 3 headshots), the guns still feel powerful and violent.
1 is a timeless masterpiece.
2 is a safe and waterdown sequel that depending on my mood is shit or alright.
3 is an absolute fricking mess, but god lord, I had so much fun in this games coop an MP.
Lamest decision for Perseus Mandate did was horrifically killing her off, while I'm glad 2 and 3 retconed that and she survives canonically the trade off is that Beckett from 2 dies for no reason in 3
F.E.A.R. 2 is the Patrician Choice
Better level design
Better fps campaign all around
Better enemy variety
Cool mech sections
No reddit jumpscares
Better cast of characters
Naked Alma everywhere you go
SEXO
I'm just glad I never listen to Ganker.
Goddamn, F.E.A.R. 2 is good.
Perseus Mandate added one or two weapons if I remember correctly. It's worth trying just to play with those. I also remember some really egregiously bullet-spongey enemies though.
Here’s a better question:
WHAT THE <<<<<FRICK>>>>>> HAPPENED TO MONOLITH? >Made kino first person shooters where you can look at your legs >Shogo >Condemned >FEAR >??? >fricking die >forced to live on as WB’s experimental slave and one trick pony
1 was great
2 was kind of soulless but still very competently done and a lot more fun than the style at the time it superficially resembled
3 was dogshit
there is only one F.E.A.R. game, and that's the original
First post, best post.
F1 + expansion packs are everything there is.
No, not even the expansion packs, those suck too.
Just 1.
Exp.packs are more of the F1, so they're instantly good.
Extraction Point's premise is so stupid that it kinda kills the enjoyment for me. Laser gun's cool though.
FPBP
I F.E.A.R. that's none of your business.
1 and Point Extraction Good. Perseus Mandate massive dive in quality
2 is only good for Alma rape sex
3 is better off deleted from existence
Franchise? There's only one game.
i didn't know there was a third one
I've been replaying the original. The AI and the amount of radio lines still impresses me. But boy do I not remember the game being this easy.
Some people claim F3AR is actually pretty good in co-op. Anyone here tried it?
I played F3AR singleplayer and fricking hated it.
it's not, but it can be funny
Enjoyed 2 at the time, its multiplayer was alright too.
Was the first proper PS3 game I had thought so might just be biased.

1 is wonderful, 2 is shit, 3 is an irredeemable sin.

It's not some super graphically intensive feature (or rather, it isn't these days), it's a gameplay feature nobody else seemed to care about.

made from the ground up for PC with a team that had a few smart people who had never even made games before
2 really isn't that bad. IDG why people hate it so much.
Because it's worse than 1.
Because it's consolified as frick and shits on everything that made F1 so great and memorable.
FEAR 2 ditching the dynamic lighting system and cutting down the physics did so much damage to the feel of the game, that was a complete travesty.

Why would you ever play the worst possible version of FEAR 1.
Lamest decision for Perseus Mandate did was horrifically killing her off, while I'm glad 2 and 3 retconed that and she survives canonically the trade off is that Beckett from 2 dies for no reason in 3

I'm a big FEAR 2 apologist but you can't help but notice the drop in general combat quality.
Wish bros would reboot it
Team is too busy making a shitty Wonder Woman game modeled off of the shitty Lord of the Rings games
>Monolith Productions is stuck on capeshit
Fricking WHY. There is no justice in this Earth.
I've only ever played base fear, are the expansions worth checking out? pretty sure I got some fear megapack back in the day and have everything
Extraction point is pretty decent, perseus mandate is awful

>playstation versions are disc-only
Maybe I should start building a pc after all.
The first game had a ps3 port? How does it run?

A bad Half Life clone for zoomers that never played the proper classics.
Well, you'll call it eurojunk if it was made in Europe
