What difficulty are you playing? I just finished Chapter 1 at "Hard" and plan to lower it.

What difficulty are you playing? I just finished Chapter 1 at "Hard" and plan to lower it. The game isn't "hard", it's just making me use ghost weapons instead of only being honorable. So it's ruining my samurai fantasy AND still being pretty easy (since the kunai hilariously kills 4 enemies at once pretty much)

You get enough upgrades where "hard" feels right. I only use ghost weapons in oh shit situations if I get surrounded or a hostage is about to be killed.
Lethal is basically just a different game mode. I hate it, personally. I see people talking about how it's more realistic but smacking them with a sword multiple times to kill feels more video gamey and satisfying to me.
Hard feels just about right for me. Eventually it feels easier, but then the next area the enemies get a little harder. And duels always feel fine on hard.

Yeah that too. Enemies were dying too fast too which isn't fun.

Normal was too forgiving, hard felt good. Except when I died to random mobs while traveling, it was a total buzzkill that I couldn't get revenge. The enemies just disappeared and instead of getting more combat, I got more walking in emptiness. Total shit gaym, 100% worth the pirate for fricking around for a couple of hours.

    Is this game even fun?

I like it, yeah. It definitely has repetition though, it just depends on your tolerance to that. You're gonna be clearing out camps and shit like a Ubisoft game, but it's still better than the Ubisoft games.

        Anonymous

Hum... that, aint good, but I guess I could try.
I didnt mind doing it in a game like cyberpunk, but it depends on the game.

It's like TW3 but with better graphics and gameplay but no good music.

Well, witcher 3 had the right mythos and amazing back story to back the game up, does this one have it?

          Anonymous

It's historic and set in ancient Japan which is pretty cool. TW3 has way better characters but this game isn't offensively bad story wise.

Yeah I love TW3 but first thing I thought was I wish TW3 combat was more like this. It feels like both heavy and light attacks have their purpose in GoT. While in TW3 you just spec into one or the other and spam it. There's no tactical reason to use both in combat.

This game has stealth and TW3 has signs but yeah the button mashing is better here.

does iki island have anything cool going on or is it just clear 10 more mongol camps, 5 more fox shrines 5 more haikus, im going through and clearing this stuff out after finishing the story and man it is a repetitive slog, they really thought giving us 40+ headbands that dont do anything was a good idea huh

      Anonymous

Iki has an animal taming and an archery challenge minigame. There are also fewer camps, but the camps are larger and more punishing. Iki is the hardest part of the game in general in fact. However, the gear and charms you get from it are insanely overpowered.

Lethal. You get used to it, and the armor upgrades plus charms really do make a difference. Duels are satisfying, and I can cut down Mongols in one-two hits usually

This game is good for those little moments where you feel like a badass samurai or ronin. The stealth is just serviceable, you don't really feel like a ninja.

Seems like they were going for a dual path where you either choose honorable samurai or sneaky ninja but I guess it was too much work to implement a 2006 gameplay feature so they just hit Ctrl c+v a bunch instead

        Anonymous

They just didn't have the level design for stealth and imo the assassination animations got old fast even if there was some variety while levelling up your dagger. I think the mechanics were decent enough though, like climbing through holes and under buildings felt pretty good but there was like 0 instances of that being worth it, or even climbing on top of most buildings. Same with using your grappling hook while in camps.
I hope the sequel has a bigger focus on stealth.

          Anonymous

There is plenty of reason for doing stealth when you are playing on hard/lethal, especially when you just got to a new area and enemies have upgrades. At lethal especially you can get one hit killed unless you are wearing heavy armor, so avoiding combat will always be valuable.

I agree that the stealth is lackluster and seems to be envisioned to be abused with the bow

            >I agree that the stealth is lackluster and seems to be envisioned to be abused with the bow
And the other tools I guess. But I've always liked melee stealth kills and it got boring in this game since there's just no level design most of the time. So I just got good and walk right in most of the time, it's faster.

I started decided to only be honorable but then the game started being very inconsistent with standoffs and this pissed me off. The advantage of being honorable is that you get to instantly erase 3 enemies, if the standoff prompt does not show up I am sabotaging myself by not doing stealth. Sometimes I wonder if it is context sensitive but it is funny because at some missions you are idk raiding ships and getting standoffs every 10 seconds, meanwhile sometimes I am trying to save a village that is being raided, they have hostages and I get no standoff? Really?

Yeah you're not wrong. It seems like specifically act 2 is when I started to run into no standoff situations.

I just walk in without standoffs most of the time too. But yeah I agree, sometimes they didn't pop up when I wanted them to.

I wish the ronin armor didn't have stealth stats. I know it's not that big a deal I can just load it up with charms to make it whatever, but I'm a little autistic about it. Like it's already too easy to not get detected by enemies, sometimes I just run straight at them full speed and I still get a stealth kill prompt.

I wish the explorer armor didn't exist because the fog of war is annoying so I always use it even though I'd like to wear other clothing.

        Anonymous

I wonder if a better approach for the sequel is to let armor/clothing be cosmetic and put the stats on different katanas and bows you find. Or at the very least, put offensive stats on the weapons and defensive ones on the armor. Then leave utility to charms.

          Anonymous

          >and put the stats on different katanas and bows you find
That would be better, or if all stats were in that charm system. I feel like most of the charms are pointless.
I'd have made the charms have visual indicators too, like those tassels and sheath decorations some of the swords have.

is there any way to remove all the fricking OP items the game spammed me with at the start as a PSN account link bonus?

completely retarted that it gives you the strongest NG+ armor at the START OF A FIRST TIME PLAYTHOUGH

Well that one is like a fully upgraded armor I suppose, but you can get everything fully upgraded by act 1 anyway. It's not super OP and it's only good if you want to use the bow a lot. I was thinking of that blue samurai armor which is basically only better than the broken armor.
I'm a huge hater of OP DLC shit being given at the start of games, but this one didn't bother me.

alright thanks, maybe i will make an effort to contain my autism for this one

my plan was to refund the game, buy uncharted legacy of thieves because that's somehow the only way to unlink steam account from psn, then refund unsharted and rebuy ghost of sushi to have a clean game start but now i think i am maybe being a bit mental

You need specific shrine charms and upgrades to your bow/quiver capacity to really take advantage of that armor, and before you get to that point you would have maxed the regular archer set anyway. I read before the PC release that NG+ set was turned into a dye option for the normal archery set in the Director's Cut so you're fretting over the game handing you 20 free flowers and early access to armor that isn't even that useful in chapter 1.
