Im having so much fun.
And I guess this is BG2?
https://i.imgur.com/20aV7ey.jpg
What do I play after? There's nothing to play after this game
Serious answer OP, play Divinity Original Sin 2. Same developers, same writing staff, same engine, same themes and ideas. The writing and characters are better, graphics are worse. But it is less constrained by D&D lore/rules because it is an original IP, so it has more novel combat mechanics and it explores more ideas more deeply and weirdly.
Oh and play as one of the existing characters, trust me it makes the story more interesting (you can change all their stats, just keeps the name/race/face/backstory)
every other DND game ever made is, quite literally, a thousand times better than bg3 was.
you can just randomly pick a title and its gonna be great, no mistakes here (maybe besides neverwinter nights 1, the vanilla campaign is just bad).
not him and i hear this alot but what is wrong with the game's writing? kingmaker's only criticism is the salad romance ending but i dont see the problem with the writing?
it's a simple plot with nothing wrong with it
Most companions in both games are either extremely one note or talk like marvel quip machines.
Dialogue choices are often extremely bland like [Lawful] YOU MUST SERVER BEHIND BARS or [Evil] I WILL JUST KILL YOU ALL and make it hard to roleplay.
Companions act like complete morons (in Wrath Lann suddenly becomes a suicidal retard if you miss a quest flag no matter how well you've been treating him prior).
And there are a shit ton of stuff like getting a prompt to ask a tiefling about what tieflings are... despite being a tiefling yourself.
companions in the first game sucked i agree but the second game has some of the most well written shitters ive seen in an rpg like daeran, regill wenduag camille and even greybor
the bad are lann (especially if you make the mistake of playing a female MC) seelah sosciel ember and nenio (tho i like the concept of "more than nothing) >Companions act like complete morons
they act like real people and i like it, real people are not perfect and make stupid mistakes
kingmaker is another story tho >And there are a shit ton of stuff like getting a prompt to ask a tiefling about what tieflings are... despite being a tiefling yourself
devs are not perfect, they miss things here and there and it's a massive game with a lot of your choices affecting dialogue here and there (play a lich that worships pharasma, pretty interesting how you get a whole quest of her being mad at you)
oh forgot to reply to your second point, sorry >Dialogue choices are often extremely bland like [Lawful] YOU MUST SERVER BEHIND BARS or [Evil] I WILL JUST KILL YOU ALL and make it hard to roleplay.
you don't have to do those choices just cuz they are marked that way, the game simply tells you that selecting those choices will shift your alignment that way
you don't need to kill yaniel cuz you're evil (even wenduag of all people calls you stupid for that)
>high medieval setting >one faction RANDOMLY has tech from 1980s, computers, manufacturing, electronics, the whole nine yards >which leaves them in place where 100 of their fighters armed with auto rifles can decimate entire armies of demons mages and whatever, snipe them from kilometers away, blast with artillery, drop bombs on them >none of this happens because ?
Yeah indeed, good writing
have you played bg1 or 2? it's gameplay is what you call noninteractive potion management.
you cannot have fun and optimizing your run is only thing to do while bg3 is actually fun RPG with gameplay and roleplay on the level no black isle game has even came close to.
>have you played bg1 or 2?
i installed it a few days ago and im having 100 times more fun than i had with bg3 (i uninstalled it halfway act 3).
the combat is hard and i actually need to think, my whole team keeps getting wiped by pretty much anything that isnt a goblin with a stick.
i love it.
i facerolled bg3 on tactician and was falling asleep all the time from boredom.
also the sound design in bg2 is so fucking crisp, holy god damn.
>combat hard
no it really isn't, it's the way combat is made it's hard, real time with pausing. but when you master it it becomes your normal funnel people into bottlenecks and destroy them with aoe. really shallow ai doesn't help. >bg2
so you installed bg1 a week ago and now you are playing bg2? doesn't really inform the difficulty of the game.

it was the single most braindead, low IQ, retarded gameplay i ever suffered in a video game. >so you installed bg1 a week ago and now you are playing bg2? doesn't really inform the difficulty of the game.
no i skipped bg1 entirely because /v told me its just a low level tutorial to BG2.

larian is world famous for making the most boring, dogshit combat imaginable. shitting on combat in larian games is like saying water is wet, everybody knows this.
you dont play bg3 for its braindead low IQ combat, you play it for the reddit sex scenes, so both of you were playing it wrong.
terrible advice about nwn1, fren
yes, the original campaign is entirely forgettable, but sotu+hotu is kino. i played it in 2019 or so, so it isn't even memberberries, it holds up amazingly
>Neverwinter Nights
1 is pure soul, specially the hordes of the underdark expansion. That one offers a campaign where you start at level 15, allowing your inner skizo autist to try many of the different build options and stuff instead of spamming level 1 characters. You also have many multiclass options. The original campaign is ok, but that one is much better.
NWN1 is carried by 10/10 music and sound design, the core campaign is pretty much unplayable.
i tried to finish it a few times but i get filtered and uninstall every time i reach the time travel dungeons.
you can skip straight to sotu, it's not connected to original campaign at all
it does start slowly, the first location is very bland and I was wtfing and contemplating uninstalling it, but then it picks up the pace, and it keeps getting better and better

Well, just to clarify, I'm not one of those people pretending they're relevant or anything, I just legit enjoyed them both and decided to recommend them to OP.

btw, since you're an oldfag, can I ask you something? How did you deal with Sarevok in BG1?
I went into both bg1 and 2 blind (both games as a mage btw, exported my character from 1 to 2), so I didn't know about any special tactics or anything like that, so I kept trying and Sarevok kept beating the shit out of me, until I used wand of summon monster to keep him busy with tons of monsters while I was free to punish him, but idk it felt kinda cheesy, other stuff that I tried was firing arrows of dispelling on him to see if I could negate his debuffs, but it didn't work, tried using wand of sleep/paralysis to no effect, tried tanking him with my fighter buffed with potions and nope, didn't work, spells to debuff him didn't work as well. I'm about to start a new BG1 run as a Fighter this time around and try to beat him in a more honored way so to speak.
wand of paralysis will work it's just a low chance. monster summoning is busted but is how i kill him regularly and on higher difficulties it becomes near impossible to tank him. you either kite or use summons. if you have the best gear and full potions and chug healing pots you can tank him with a fighter-type. the main threat is his friends, arrows of dispelling/detonation work good for them.
depends how you create your party.
he isn't any different than anything else just annoying as he demands min maxing and isn't fun because of that. game is full of shit designs like this.

because everybody either forgot about baldurs gate or hated it with a passion.
nope, I was genuine. it all depends on circles you go to. bg2 is remembered as classic in DND community and forgotten garbage everywhere else.
just like vampires masquerade is considered by it's fans best immersive sim.
bg2 is safe "I like video games" of DND community
What a load of bullshit
Up until like mid 2010 BG2 was widely as the best rpg ever made.
of course its not forgotten, never was.

You can just ignore the new stuff they added tbh, But my biggest problem with it is that I highly disagree with them removing the original ones from storefronts, leaving player no choice to buy the original ones instead. There's a way to get the original ones on gog but that requires buying the enhanced editions and using a key they provide to later get the original ones. imo it's a scummy practice and players should be free to choose which version they want to buy, instead of being forced to buy the newer one.
If you don't have a problem with that, you might as well just buy the enhanced edition and ignore the newer stuff.
Play it again. I'm on #4, this time with all custom characters and a modded necromancer. Just killed Gortash during out first meeting and now fighting my way through the bridge to lower city. I assume the Steel Watch will aggro throughout Act 3 whenever they see me. This shit is nuts.
BG3 as a whole is a tiny, very short game.
if i cut out all the save scumming and shitty time wasting turn based combat out from my playthrough, i would finish the whole fucking game in like 4 hours.
Do another playthrough. Try a new origin, make different choices, try a new build, traverse locations differently and take different routes. The game offers a lot on replays

How about something with gameplay?
what other game in the gents has better gameplay?
any non larian game, really.
BG 1+2, Icewind Dale 1+2.
You might try Neverwinter Nights, but skip 1 and play 2.
Or, you can just leave all that DND autism and play Witcher 3 like a man.
Witcher 3 has no gameplay. I beat that shit this year and did all the content. Well Gwent is fun but the combat in the witcher 3 gets old.

Play BG 1 and BG 2 (ideally the original versions, not the enhanced editions) they hold up quite well even today.
they didn't even hold up back then, fallout mogged The shit out if them. and games were practically forgotten until bg3 came out.
I recently finished a run of BG1 and 2, and honestly, I disagree, had tons of fun with both, but to each their own.
