It's the same reason houses are entirely untouched even with supposed technological upgrades (and regrowing forests) that would make a new house near clean water way superior than just living in the same old shack that apparently had no previous inhabitants

I mean everyone remembers those famous perfectly intact cities and villages of the ancient empires after their collapse right?. It's not like those immediately got cannibalized for parts by some fickle warlord.

No, it would be a three way shitfest. But the Enclave also doesn't operate like a regular military force. They'd just do a series of precision strikes before going to one of their cuck bunkers to hide and develop some sort of wunderwaffen to kill everybody else.

        >implying the didn't paperclip the Enclave into the NCR

New Vegas alludes that there's a non-zero amount of Ex-Enclave living in the NCR (possibly without hiding their past)
        >Though they were a powerful force in the west decades ago, the Enclave has not been seen or heard from in the Mojave Wasteland for years. Members who were not hunted down are believed to have traveled east - or successfully integrated into the NCR.
The current state of the NCR also somewhat reflects a non-canon ending to Fallout 2 where the NCR government becomes full of Ex-Enclave members.
        >Shaken by the assassination of Vice-President Carlson, right-wing elements seize control of the Congress and set the New California Republic on a path to military rule. Eventually the survivors of the Enclave found a new home in the ranks of the NCR
Kimball in-universe is strikingly more right-wing authoritarian compared to previous NCR presidents.

          >It literally is his problem

          >tells you to deal with every single problem around due to the same reasons
He never tells you to deal with Primm. If you skipped the location he doesn't care.

But the real answer is that the robots can't go that far south and he doesn't have many, so even if he wanted to keep the entire Mojave safe for trade and tourism he can't without the chip and his army under Fort Hill.

House has zero interactions with the powder gangers because they have their own questlines with the player so they couldn't overlap much, same with House brushing off by far the biggest threat which is Benny because Benny also has his own things with the player.

Hell if your relationship with the NCR isn’t good he just lets the Legion kill the president without giving you a chance to save him since he can ultimately work with either outcome

Lonesome Road is an abhorrent DLC that completely takes away from the main storyline, it's absurd that you can shoot two nukes right around NV and no one even acknowledges it, they're instead still bickering about a dam as if the DLC didn't completely nullify the "climatic" fight with its own far more impactful and moronic climax.

              >Starfield came and went like a fart in the wind.
I actually find starfield quite interesting as a game, to a point where I'm ALMOST sad that it ended up leaving so little impact... but it's not really the game that was notable in regards to Ganker.

It's the shit that was happening prior to it's release, the absolute INSANITY of how Beth drones were building up their expectations. Namely the fact that there were dozens, if not hundreds of people genuinely pushing the idea that "actually, Fallout 3 and Skyrim were already procedurally generated, so it's entirely realistic to expect that Starfield's 1000 planets will have actually all Skyrim/Fallout 3 style quality of content, but like hundreds upon hundreds of square kilometers upon it, on every planet."
Shit like that, it was mesmerizing. The sheer amount of just... flat out lies that accompanied it, my god.

It was truly staggering, just an infinite well of insanity.
I will never understand how those people didn't just commit mass suicides when the game came out. I would if I had been proven of lying that hard, I literally could not imagine myself living with such shame, but...
As you said, gone like the fart in the wind. Now they are back to having meltdowns about Fo3, like OP does.

              >What drives people to be this autistic?
Years and years of being reminded of having shit taste. Years of years of being made feel inferior because he happens to be american console tard that to whom Halo and Fallout 3 was the closest to "culture" he ever got - and will ever get.
Years of being addicted to this place, but having this place endlessly mock them for how poor and limited their taste is.

It gradually chipped away at his sanity. People like this don't have much to hold onto in their lives. Playing shitty casual Xbox 360 games was just... their whole life, really. That, a very tenuous connection to some social networks they got addicted to.
And as the social networks pushed them off, leaving them with no other option than Ganker, and as they discovered that here on Ganker people loathe them and make endless fun of them... it all comes to breaking point where this becomes an ultimate symbol of everything wrong with their existence.

Do you know how much vegetation something like a Bighorner would have to eat on the daily? And now you need enough herbivores to support all the carnivores you see. The truth is that there’s not enough vegetation to support the sheer number of creatures you run into.

I’m just checking to see where the hypocrisy sets in. You say you care about realism, and yet you skip over the unrealistic aspects. Feels more like a retroactive argument used to defend a preconceived position rather than coming to a position via evidence.

It shows the writers and map designers actually at least tried to showcase some of these aspects within the confines of the game they were making. You always have to make compromises because no, I don't want to spend 8 real hours walking from Goodsprings to Primm, for instance.

There is, but Fallout sure as frick ain't one of them. And in general, the point of postapocalypse is the idea of collapse of infrastructure, and the resulting scarcities: Most of them will actually very specifically revolve around resource shortages and the way that communities face them, it's very much the main appeal of the genre for most people.

Talking deathclaws, inconsistent lore in the old games, stop treating the game like it’s a magnum opus in worldbuilding. The point is to shoot raiders and monsters so that you can collect shit that makes you better at killing raiders and monsters. Everything outside of the gameplay loop is fluff and aesthetic.

It used to be very good. Talking deathclaws were a mistake, nobody denies that. However, if you had played Fo2 (which you absolutely did not, and just spam the ONE meme thing over and over), you'd know that most of the world was actually very well developed, with intricate economies and political landscapes.

                >Megaton: It's a trading hub and they produce water and services.
There is no trade, nor a mention of trade, there is nobody to offer services to because nobody has a reason to go to Megaton, and water is not something you can trade for crops, if someone can produce crops or any form of stable food supply, it means they already have a source of water, infinitely more reliable and cheaper than what Megaton could provide.

The reality is that megaton does not produce anything, has no trade, has no partners to trade with, and absolutely zero thought or effort was ever put into thinking any of this trough.

Also, you seem to be still entirely clueless about this concept of services to begin with.

You claim that Megaton, which has no traffic because there is no reason to go there, makes money off "services", but you don't understand how a casino right outside of the local hub of gambling, could be making their money?

Tell me name of one actual political body, or settlement, or anyone actually existing outside of the Capitol wasteland, that would be mentioned in Megaton to be a trade partner.

There is NO ECONOMY in Fallout 3. As we established in the previous thread, not even the god damn WATER, you know, the thing that is driving the main story, is in any way ever acknowledged to be an economic consideration or concern, anyhwere in the world, in fact - again we had this exact discussion not even two hours ago - the game goes out of it's way, absurdly far, to make sure water is explicitly a NON-ISSUE in the all of 2 instances where it's mentioned.

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Rick and Morty. The humor is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical physics most of the jokes will go over a typical viewer's head. There's also Rick's nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation - his personal philosophy draws heavily fromNarodnaya Volya literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these jokes, to realize that they're not just funny- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Rick and Morty truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the humour in Rick's existencial catchphrase "Wubba Lubba Dub Dub," which itself is a cryptic reference to Turgenev's Russian epic Fathers and Sons I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Dan Harmon's genius unfolds itself on their television screens. What fools... how I pity them. And yes by the way, I DO have a Rick and Morty tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the ladies' eyes only- And even they have to demonstrate that they're within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand.

                >but you also excuse Primm's services while failing to do the same
They don't fail to do the same. Primm has entirely, explicitly explained economic model that is entirely viable. Their trade is vices, it's a casiono. Their customers are NCR citizens traveling to New Vegas. Their food is grown by the farmers of the famously extremely agricultural New Vegas, and in times of need, they can buy food from Goodsprings (which grow their own food, thanks to the ample supply of water that gave the town it's name) as well as the farms and coops around New Vegas, who themselves own their production capacity to the water and power both provided by Hoover Dam.

Every question about how Primm works is explicitly acknowledged and SHOWED in the game.

Megaton's walls were built just a few decades before the game starts and their lack of sustainability is also a theme as NPCs say the common house is flooded with homeless people due to it growing too fast in the last few years, it hasn't been around for 200 years.
Again, this is all described in the game by asking NPCs how Megaton functions and you are seemingly incapable of internalizing this fact.

It offers a lot less. But a single casino and some hotels are enough to make living if you live alongside a route that a LOT of people use, people who are already on their way to spend their caps gambling anyway, so convincing them to part with some of it on their way is logically going to be easy.

                >So lodging in Primm is enough to sustain it but lodging in Megaton isn't enough to sustain it?
                Yes.
Because people have reason to go to Primm. It's on the highway to New Vegas. Which is a hub of vices, specifically targeting NCR citizens by having more lax laws about gambling and prostitution.
All of which is enabled by the power and water provided by Hoover dam, the relatively intact infrastructure of the area thanks to Houses actions, and the relative security enforced by the securitrons.

Everything about Primm is explained. There is a reason given why there is so much traffic that a way-side casino can survive There is a reason why food is not an issue in the area - hoover dam and NCR. There are two major states enforcing currency.
And all of this directly ties to the game's main story.

So yes. Primm surviving off services is entirely acceptable. Megaton, which is a literal irradiated hole in a middle of uninhabitable dead wasteland, cannot be explained the same way. There is no reason why large traffic of peopele would be passing that area. There is no state overseeing currency. There is no source of water or power large enough to explain why such a population would be there. And no: Megaton's plant is not actually enough, because it literally does not make enough water for the people to set up basic farms themselves.

Yes, there is a huge difference there, and if you don't see it, you are genuinely too stupid to be allowed to vote. It's basic, BASIC economy, elementary school understanding of supply and demand, that you apprently completely lack.

                >Water from its treatment plant,
                They trade water.

To people who can grow their own crops.

Who - as such, absolutely, 100% do not need to, or can't physically - import water from Megaton.

                No.
They don't trade water, their water is not something they could trade to people who have enough water to grow food.

The restaurant and clinic serve who, exactly? Why would people travel to megaton?

                For their exactly 1 prostitute?

                >The caravans that are in the actual game that you can in fact see and trade with yourself.
Where are these caravans coming from, you absolute mongoloid.

                >Other settlements better fit for growing food, Rivet City in particular has high tech hydroponics.
Rivet city has literally one prototype water tray that isn't actually growing enough food to supply Rivet City. They also have a prototype purifier, meaning they don't need water from Megaton.

So this question is not answered.

                >What does Primm produce?
Entertainment and services for the people who travel to and from New Vegas.

                >What do they trade with?
Money, because there is a massive highly functional state enforcing standardized currency.

                >Who grows the food they eat?
NCR is literally antirely an agricultural state. New Vegas has multiple farms and coops.
Goodsprings are a smaller agricultural comunity.

Literally all of that was already said in the exact post you are quoting, you absolute mongolid.

Fallout 3 doesn’t care about whether something is reasonable, so it doesn’t matter. It’s like asking why Mario doesn’t just walk around the Goomba. It’s a videogame, who cares. I like New Vegas too, as a videogame, but when people crawl out of the woodwork to say the fact that there are a handful of farms makes it some sort of masterpiece, you have to roll your eyes. It’s a video game. There’s a point where autism gets in the way of actually enjoying something for what it is.

The people who subscribe to the criticism of WHAT DO THEY EAT aren't asking for every single facet of their world to be meticulously sculpted in some sort of autistic simulation. But rather just a few specific or basic questions to be immediately apparent. It's like going into a house and seeing a toilet. Does the toilet need to be functional with a fully modeled and rendered plumbing system? No. But it's nice that the artists acknowledge that yes these characters do occasionally have to take a shit and their environments account for that.

Also genre matters here. Fallout is an open world game. No one expects those things out of Mario because it's a different genre entirely. Mario is just getting to the end of a level or picking up X amount of Y. In FNV there's an entire quest devoted to generating power and deciding where that power goes. Basic questions like WHAT DO THEY EAT aren't unreasonable even if discussion of that point is only reasonable up to a point.

Nah, it’s just the truth that gameplay is the most important part of a game. God of war is shit because it’s a story game with shit gameplay. Anything beyond gameplay is secondary to gameplay. A game can live off good gameplay alone even without a story.

The insinuation that the random cornfields dotting the Mojave add value to the game is a joke imo. It is filler in its purest form, a way to fill an empty landscape. Fallout 3 you can easily justify it any number of ways; those offscreen rivet city hydroponics bays (the trade route circle in the capital wasteland passes through rivet city), or that weird settlement with the cannibals that has farms, or any number of other frickin things. That bridge settlement that has the vampire problem has a whole farm setup with pack animals. In fact I think most settlements in fallout 3 have brahmin herds fenced up.

It is a nitpick and a really stupid one since Fallout 3 has major, MAJOR issues. Like the main story being a complete rehash of classic fallout with plot holes. Or the overuse of setpieces. You know what's not an issue? The fricking food sources of the settlements.

Is it possible to overdue setpieces? Setpieces are fun.

            Anonymous

I guess the issue isn't the setpieces, it's that the story has that problem where you can tell they had big ideas but they didn't put any effort to get you from A to B. So we have to fight this giant super mutant in front of 3 Dog's radio...but the railroad tracks that take you there are completely forgettable. Dad being stuck in a virtual simulation is cool...but why the frick is he even in there when he's supposed to be trying to fix the purifier. Something something GECK, but wait why the frick is vault tec doing this? Wait why are super mutants and the enclave on the east coast suddenly?

Each point is only minorly flawed but you see, if every single thread is damaged the overall fabric completely unravels

It highlights a bigger issue in the general world building, Fallout 3s main story is centered around resources scarcity and providing an essential resource (water) to the wasteland. Not to mention the post apocalyptic genre is all about the struggle to survive and most works show how people get their food.

Yes that same dialogue, what about it? The game is never not portrayed as a post-apocalyptic shithole that can barely sustain itself. Your usual programming is to complain that it's too much of a shithole but you are short-circuiting.

It's hilarious how you still get the whole point completely backwards.

You think the fact that they have plopped down a shop explains why it's a trade hub.
Instead of asking "why would there be a shop here?"

We know what the town contains, moron. Our point is that there is no reason for any of that to exist in the first place.
When people ask "what do they eat", what they are really asking is:
"Why is the world the way it is? Why did people settle here, how have they managed to make their living, and how do they relate to other places and people?"

literally every item in the game is tradeable. the world of fallout has a barter system

                >literally every item in the game is tradeable
If that is so, how come that after 50+ years of th settlement existing, the area around isn't picked clean?
In fact every place in the area is basically intact. What exactly is that they were collecting, that they haven't figured out there is a fricking shop STILL FULL OF GOODS 50 meters away from the city?

I could go into detail about how you are very clearly confusing gameplay conciet (populating the area with trash to reward player interaction) with basic narrative consideration (a city needs to have sustainable economic model).

                >why would there be a shop here?"
Because it's a trade hub and a popular stop for caravans that also makes sense and supported within the trade route system they made, they directly tell and show that in the game. The only "problem" here is that you're simply unable to accept this because it breaks your preconceived notions of what the game is like.

Story is fine sure, but it’s a framework to justify a fun game. If I want a good story first and foremost, I’ll read something instead. That’s not to say there isn’t a place for good story in games, just that it comes secondary to the game being fun to play. Dark Souls thrived because people liked the gameplay loop. God of War on the other hand would have no people playing it if the story didn’t come first. While I think the narrative of new Vegas is better, I think the gameplay loop of 3 is better, and that’s more important when it comes to making judgement on whether a game is good.

The difference here is you can remove every mention of the supply lines from New Vegas and it would still make sense.

this but with the multiple settlements and trade route system in 3...i mean how much more handholding do you need. there weren't any farms at the hub in 1 either.

The Hub did not have an active atomic bomb in the center.

                >what makes Megaton a trading hub?
The fact that it's described as such and it's the second best settlement behind Rivet City, which is described as more insular and not as trade-friendly. These are more than reason enough but you somehow fail to absorb that.

I need to know what the exchange rate of NCR dollars to Legion denarii was 15 years ago and how it has fluctuated over time, or the game is unplayable. There's one thing 3 Stans seem to gloss over. All food and other resources come from within the game world. The capital wasteland is almost completely isolated from anywhere else. Everyone's eating from non-existent food sources. Traders are buying and selling resources that were summoned from the ether.
The Mojave on the other hand imports goods from outside of the game world. Imports from an actual civilization and in large quantities. That in addition to there being farms in the game world

It's just not that big a deal.

You're already using your imagination to fill in a lot of gaps. A collection of two or three rooms is supposed to be a town, and ten to twelve rooms is supposed to be a giant city.
Large quantities of giant carnivores roam around even though there's no plant life to support an actual ecosystem.
You're supposed to be walking around an entire U.S. state but the geography is so compressed it would only take you an hour or two to cross it.
A day is like 10 minutes.

I could go on and on about this. Nitpicking about world building as if this ONE element is suddenly a dealbreaker makes
      zero
      goddamn

Fallout is a series that prided itself on worldbuilding, shit like that is pretty damn important in a heavily story based role playing game.

        >Nitpicking about world building as if this ONE element is suddenly a dealbreaker makes
        To you.
        Because you are a moron.

The whole point of our capacity to abstract and fill up the gaps is predicated on our ability to reason, that is - to apply our understanding of real world, to fill in the gaps. All we need is hints that we can connect to real world experience, and we will apply that experience and reconstitute the original concept or idea from that.

But there is a fundamental condition to this.
The concept has to in some way invoke those real-world experience. We don't need to see realistic-size crops field, we don't need to see the trader manually loading goods and in-real-time hauling them to the dead drop near BoS base: all we need to be told that "yes, this is a place where there is water, and weather for crops, and clearly at least someone is taking advantage of this, so yeah" all the smaller details can be filled in.

The problem is when the "hints" we are given cannot be connected to basic common sense or relatable understanding of real world. And it gets even worse when it directly CONTRADICTS both.

And that is the real reason why people take an issue with this. Precisely because of our capacity to fill in the blanks, Fo3 DOES NOT WORK FOR ANYONE WITH A FUNCTIONAL BRAIN.
Because that reason, that basic intelectual capacity to understand how world works, and thus reasonably fill in gaps - is EXPLICITLY CONTRADICTING the shit the game shows us.

          Anonymous

maybe your intellect is the weak one. I can imagine Megaton being a trade hub just fine, and people have already given you 1000 reasons for doing so. perhaps you should go argue about economics in a game that cares about such things.

            Anonymous

            >I can imagine Megaton being a trade hub just fine
Because you are not capable of understanding things like "People need food to eat", and "food needs water to grow" and "people won't give away their food if they get nothing in return".

You can't imagine anything, actually, but you don't have to: what is in the game is sufficient to you because you cannot question it at all. It does not evoke any experience with reality, because you don't have any experience in reality - it cannot contradict what does not exist, in your case.

there was a hole in the ground so they could hide from the wind, and it was easily defensible. it's also stated that people started living there when they were trying to get into Vault 101, hoping they could get inside one day, and the place built up over time.

            >so they could hide from the wind
Yeah, because everyone knows wind is much worse than a leaking live nuclear bomb.

            >and it was easily defensible
            A HOLE.
            Is DEFENSIBLE.
See this shit? See the shit I have to work with? Now we are down to the idea of "being bellow the attacker is bad" being incomprehensible.

I don't understand how you can love New Vegas' gameplay but then hate 3's. They are essentially the same game with minor mechanical changes/additions. Nearly everything done in New Vegas is done in 3 but on a smaller scale aside from shit like random encounters. The only game you should hate if you like either is Fallout 4 and anything that follow's Bethesda's current philosophy of making their games really shitty looter shooters.
