Crystal. Yeah yeah HGSS whatever but I like the old school music and classic mechanics.

Crystal has amazing sprites and some classic melodies, but it still remains that gen 2 is garbage in nearly every other regard and utterly tedious to play through.

        Explorers of sky

BW2 if we're only counting mainline Pokemon. If spinoffs are included then it's Explorers of Sky by far.

        Emerald for quick playthroughs.
        Platinum for completionism.
BW2 for nuzlockes (on challenge mode of course.)
HGSS for when I want to play Gen 4 but don't feel like dealing with Sinnoh. (I even have my Pokewalker still.)
Including spinoffs, Explorers of Sky and Super Mystery Dungeon.
PLA for casual shiny hunting and just fricking around the open maps.
Aesthetically gen 5 has my favorite overworld and Crystal has my favorite battles.
So I dunno, I guess either Emerald or BW2.

Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky.

To replay for funsies I have to say Emerald

To sink your teeth in for a long time B2 or platinum

Platinum has a definite edge for runs since the DS games of Sinnoh included a feature to add wild Pokemon to your playthrough if you inserted a GBA cart in them, this gives them a lot of replayability in my opinion

Yeah it kicks ass (you must wait until you obtain the Nat dex tho)

Yeah, it's available to you pre nat Dex so you can use stuff like Vulpix/growlithe and Gengar(1% in old chateau with a cart inserted) in the Sinnoh games

It spices the Sinnoh pokedex a lot

Same anon, Emerald is good but I don't really like how the Pokemon games run on GBA. Unpopular opinion but I might actually prefer ORAS.

I mean, ORAS with Frontier would pretty much be uncontestably the best Pokémon game
it's not even uncommon to see people saying ORAS is the best game overall

My dream game is ORAS+circles underneath battle mons removed+PWT+Black Tower
Don't even like the frontier, it's an RNG fest.

      Explorers of sky

Black 2 for overall polish and sheer amount of content. There's a lot of neat secrets in that game and cool little features that we didn't really see again like the collectable medals and in-game Wikipedia telling you how certain pokemon evolve etc.
I think it's main campaign is on the weaker side, but as an overall package it's the most fully realized of the traditional formula and matches some real JRPGs

BW2 if we're only counting mainline Pokemon. If spinoffs are included then it's Explorers of Sky by far.

Honestly, I feel like Platinum might have a slight edge over BW2, but it really comes down to personal preference. They're both gems. I'm optimistic about SV, though. SwSh's DLC was pretty great, if it's more of that then it could be a really fun experience.

HeartGold and SoulSilver. I like the way the DS games look, Johto is one of my favorite regions, going through two regions is neat, has the Battle Facilities from Platinum, following Pokemon is neat. There's just a lot to HGSS that appeals to me.

    >What do you think is the best pokemon game?
Honestly? There is no best Pokemon game. Every game does something better than another game.
I believe that Kanto has the best world, but none of the 3 Kanto games have good facilities. I believe the Hoenn and Sinnoh games have the best facilities, but teambuilding in the gen 3 and 4 games isn't very good compared to later gens. Later games have the best teambuilding and online, but I don't really care for their worlds too much. Etc etc.

At this point I don't think I can choose between HeartGold and Legends Arceus. HeartGold and SoulSilver did just about everything right as far as remakes to, but there's also a lot of nostalgia there since I had Gold and Crystal when I was a kid. Legends Arceus presents a number of changes to the formula that I found refreshing, and it was the most fun Pokémon game I had played in a long time.

Gen 5 was great too, in retrospect.

I dunno, depends on what you mean by best? RSE has a solid main game in almost every, E in particular just makes it better, but RS lacks much to do after that and one of Emerald's battle facilities is a war crime. HGSS has major nostalgia factor for me, remaking a game I played a ton as a kid, but also just adds even more to do. The main game isn't stellar, it's perfectly fine at the worst, but the side stuff definitely puts it way above most of the other games. BW is another solid main story, has a nice little postgame, it's just an all arounder, but it doesn't excel in enough areas for me to be that enthusiastic about it aside from saying it's the best first version, probably by a fairly wide margin. B2W2 has a nice variety in the postgame as well, and offers some interesting challenges in general, but unlike BW the story the first time through is really weak and doesn't really justify a lot of the cutscenes. Both of the GameCube titles are really interesting, but those are about as far from the standard Pokemon gameplay as you could get before Let's Go and Legends, so I dunno if you could call it the best Pokemon game. That's not even counting any of the spin-offs, although I'll give special attention to the Snap games since I just think they're neat. Is the Pokewalker it's own separate game? How about Dream World? The e-Reader cards? Do you know how many Pokemon games there are? Trying to find the best of anything is going to be hard, not just general consensus but even individual opinion. I mean, tastelets and low functioning autists might only like one thing for one specific reason, but real high functioning autists and spergs would probably try to consider things more broadly. Hell, I wouldn't say I like USUM, but it's probably the best main Pokemon game on the 3DS, and I do think it does a lot of neat shit. A lot of other people might hate USUM, because they're pedophiles, or actually like Lillie's story. I haven't really solved the issue, but whatever.
