What do you want in a Control II?

What do you want in a Control II? Personally I think this IP has unbridled potential to follow in the "game series find its footing in sequel and becomes genuinely great all of a sudden" and be a possible masterpiece. Hopefully this is the game remedy is immediately working on After Alan Wake 2.

    Better enemy design
Control gives you a ton of ways to fight but enemies don't push you enough to want to utilize your tools
Also make them fun to fight, shit was so tedious I don't ever want to play through it again despite everything else being great

if I'm being honest. all they need, to take the game from a 7.5/10 to an 8.5 or 9, is to make exploration...actual exploration, and not feel like railroaded nonsense where NPC'S are directing you from area to area.

And about combat...honestly this is the one I'm not sure how they should fix. Braindead retards who never think past the surface level will say "muh enemy variety!!!!" but I can think of a dozen games will tons of enemy variety who's combat is trash. No idea why so many retards harp on it so much.

I think something that could work, is reduced focus on combat and incorporating her paranormal powers into creative puzzles...but Remedy REALLY sucks at making puzzles so I don't know If they could even do it...

Another thing I thought of, was making encounters themselves more puzzle like? Shooting mechanics are fundamentally pretty simple, and I can't think of many games that were good because of the shooting itself, rather than the surrounding mechanics that underpin it if that makes sense.

What do you guys think? I know some people already consider control a 9/10 but I just can't see it. No aspect of the gameplay is strong enough, and I don't even like the atmosphere that much.

Your suggestions towards the enemies is on the right track, they need something to make them more interesting since most of the combat is solved by throwing shit at the enemies 90% of the time and doing anything to make encounters more varied or interesting would be a blessing in the sequel

the game honestly has too much combat in my opinion. genuinely annoying when the enemies are simultaneously simple, and hard to kill because they're tanky and have a dozen shields.

why do retards try to imply the first game has good level design? if it did it would honestly be enough to save it as an 8/10 for me, but the entire main story is rail roaded and fuck, and before some retard goes "but you can go off the beaten path for side powerups" yeah...and? navigation is never difficult, and exploration never feels open. Finally Fantasy had "side paths" with item rewards for godsake, that's not what makes good exploration.

God, I WISH so bad this game had exploration since it'd make its environments feel more meaningful

Control 2 should be an XCOM game where you deploy teams of agents to AWE sites while researching objects and building containment for the crazy shit you find.

  27. 4 weeks ago
    stann

It's a game set in an SCP foundation clone, and they don't use that to their benefit ever, the closest is that looping hotel hallway.

The side missions that tap into the paranormal objects stuff is horribly written as well, just left me wishing someone better at writing was in charge.

    >Guy has to stare at fridge or something bad will happen
    >okay this is actually kind of interesting
    >he blinked, something bad happened, you have to investigate
    >Oh no what is the deal with the fridge

i vaguely remember super early in the game it actually was a bit scary cause i didn't know anything, and it was one of the coolest parts, then you get a gun and you start just wandering and shooting.

That's not necessarily bad, but yeah if it was horror it would have been kino.

Also writing again, what the fuck was the point of these documents, it's like they read an SCP article and completely missed why people think it's cool. In Control they just have random objects with a number attached and say they're "powerful" they have no cool backstory or containment procedures or anything. At best it will float around a bit before you capture it, it's such a missed opportunity, it made me so mad. Whole game is like this

Less plot, much more side gigs. Control's plot was total shit (brother exists for some reason???), Alan Wake 2 plot fallen apart in the end (in the musical it was Scratch).
Non-main story stuff in Control was very neat, interesting. More bosses should go into their own separate sub-dimension and not just another office room.
Maybe they should look at differences between The Surge and The Surge 2, where first one was going in one big factory, and second one had much more diverse locations.

    >More biological entities to deal with rather than possessed objects. As interesting as the objects were at times, it was a bummer how many were just you chasing down some item that's fucking with the world. I want more situations like the mold.
    >More interesting environmental variety. Mold area was cool, the Ashtray Maze was dope, but so many areas were grey hallways and offices. Which makes sense considering it was a proper government facility, but a bit more variety in what you explore would be nice.
    >Scrap the weird weapon mod system, balance the abilities/guns better. 95% of the time, I'd just use telekinesis and win every encounter because everything else was slower or less fun than throwing a forklift at an enemy's face.
    >Give the protagonist a bit more of a personality. I did enjoy how she felt like a person who thinks they're in a noir film, but then comes off like a weirdo to everyone around her. But she was still pretty bland at times. When your story is so focused on her past and family, you gotta put more effort into making the character interesting when words come out of their mouth.
    >Make a main plot that doesn't suck ass by the end. Seriously, the ending was a wet fart compared to how interesting all the substories were.
    >Stop putting so much time and effort into live action shit. No one wants to sit and watch a television skit or someone's meandering thoughts in a vision for 3 minutes, standing completely still and having zero interaction. I get it, they put a lot of effort into it. But I'm playing a video game, make your storytelling part of the experience. Half-Life 2 and a shit ton of other games managed this years and years ago; stop rooting players in place when trying to give us worldbuilding.

Honestly though, I'm just happy with them returning to the IP. It wasn't perfect by any means, but I'm willing to see what else they can do with it.

There was an attempt but holy shit was everything squandered. With Alan Wake 2 out, I really do not have faith they can improve Control in the places that actually matter, namely the story and the gameplay.
On the plus side, the setting makes for good wallpaper on your desktop. They know how to make a damn good room.

    Another enemy than the Hiss.
More weapons form besides guns, like swords, staff, gauntlets...
Powers were mostly alright, especially the telekinesis, maybe more way to combine them with your current weapon, like maybe you'd need to shoot a big object several times with your gun before being able to lift it.

Did they really? When I played the game I got the impression that Jesse respected Pope's competence but didn't really think about her beyond seeing her utility as an advisor. She just sort of ignores Pope's eccentric personality instead of finding it endearing.

There is a lore snippet about some kids finding the projector in Jessie's old hometown and getting enslaved by some intelligent biological entity that turns them into "shit monkeys" who then attack the other kids. It's creepier than all the actual quests you do, and it's weird that there is nothing else like it in the game.

Control was really good, its only issue was repetitivity. But as always, the protagonist isn't an underrage girl with a skimpy outfit so many people here hated it.
I remember all the threads during release. Nothing about the actual qualities or flaws or the game, it was all about how the protagonist is too old, looks like a man or is a strong female character who don't need no man.

I want more weird objects and places, more memorable scenes including some over the top but still somehow fitting like some of the things they did for Alan Wake 2
I want more varied enemies that are more fun to fight.
