What do you want in the next Zelda? Should Nintendo keep the open world theme, or do something closer to the older 3D titles?

      You son of a b***h

Should I play TOTK? It’s literally the only mainline Zelda game I’ve ever felt totally ambivalent about playing. I liked BOTW but I spent 100 hours on it. Do you think it’s worth it?

Yeah it’s a good game you’ll get a lot of hours out of. Story is complete shit tho

      >What do you want in the next Zelda?
      -smaller
      -more linear
-a setting anywhere other than fricking hyrule again

Try it out. Personally i hated it coz it's like BOTW DLC, and i already put nearly 200 hours into BOTW, i don't want to run around that bloody map AGAIN.

played botw 100% and totk was just a big disappointment for me and i think i'm done with the series if they continue with similar games.
      >Sandbox mechanics are shit, worse than botw runes
      >Underground is boring
      >"Dungeons" are somehow worse than the ones in botw
      >Story doesn't make any sense
i really don't care that much about timeline mumbo jumbo but totk even contradicts it's direct prequel. i guess it's okay if you really really liked botw

did play BOTW but I'm having a lot of fun, it's super comfy

albeit the begining hours are essentially just a tutorial and they are bombing you with tutorials and gameplay mechanics, which I don't like , but at least it's enjoyable

personally I would like a zelda like the older 3d ones but I know I'm not gonna get that

  6. 4 weeks ago
    Anonymous

Personally I would like to see a mix. Maybe a lttp style game with a world on a scale like botw, or even half the size? Something where you're given a reason to go to a few dungeons, it can be pendants, spiritual power, whatever it doesn't really matter, and after completing those and getting the master sword you have to do some more to eventually fight ganon.
Link could have other weapons aside from a sword, and you can upgrade them by collecting monster parts and finding rare materials in caves. Durability could return, but instead of having to cycle through new weapons all the time "breaking" the weapon would revert it back to it's default state and you have to go back to a town to repair it (upgrades would also improve durability so they last for a good amount of time).
As for other items, if it is going for a more old school style then there should be some in dungeons and some hidden in the overworld, or obtained through quests. Now, it's unreasonable to scour a world as large as botw Hyrule for a single chest, so there would be multiple copies of the items around the world, and finding a second copy would upgrade it's capabilities. For example, finding a second hookshot would upgrade it to the longshot, and then another would make it dual longshots, and another could allow you to send an electric current to whatever you attach to. I do think the shrine format for heart pieces and stamina upgrades is fine, there's always been super easy to grab heart pieces and some that are a pain in the ass, and getting a fast travel point in addition is a good incentive to find them.
A dark world would be cool, but without a significant difference between the two overworlds I'd rather just have one really good overworld than one good and one okay one. Please put in underwater exploration that would be so cool do it do it do it

Another Zelda like BotW/TotK but it doesn't need to be in the same kind game as them. Just something where the core gameplay is nothing but exploration/puzzle solving. Only thing I'm really hoping for is the ability to randomly stumble upon optional dungeons in the overworld that isn't tied to story progression.

I want another OoT. We haven't had a 3D Zelda game like it since SS if I'm being generous, in reality since TP. No alternative to this formula exists in the world of gaming and it's pissing me off. The only games that even bothered imitating it are Nier and Okami. I wish it was a staple like 'soulslikes' because it's overall the best kind of a video game

This. The original 3D Zelda formula is absolutely comfy. There's just something that Nintendo does really well in their games and make it so simple yet really engaging.

Keep the open world but make it actually interesting. Add real dungeons, more unique side quests with fun characters, and more enemy variety. Basically just add all the good stuff from previous Zelda games and put them in an open world.

I want a modern or futuristic setting, I'm kinda sick of the medieval fantasy bullshit and given the lore of Zelda it is perfectly possible for Ganon to be reborn in a technologically advanced point in the timeline.

      Anonymous

BotW/TotK is pretty technologically advanced. They have robots, tablets, vehicles and laser beams.

        Anonymous

It's AFTER the futuristic setting, when everything has collapsed and the technology has become a relic, it's essentially a cop-out to have tech while the setting is still farms and castles.

loosely related but i dont want to make a new thread for this. isn't spirit tracks the best zelda game? just look at this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GXfM9lgzr0M . i dont think i've ever found zelda as cute as ghost waifu zelda in this game. i just started playing it, but an hour in, it's way better than any previous zelda experience of mine. having zelda be your companion is motivating as well and the toon link design is the best in the series imo. trains are cool too. only downside are the touch screen controls, but i appreciate the attempt at innovation. what are your thoughts on this game?

also to answer the question, i would like another toon-link zelda, just utilizing whatever technological progress has been made since windwaker.

It is a very charming game, and the slow technological development in that timeline (Sail boats to steam boats to steam trains) was really cool and they should have followed it up with planes.

A return to the CAPCOM gameboy style and story. Truly the best era of Zelda with the most entertaining play-through, charming sprites, and puzzles.

Capcom Zeldas have cool art styles and stories but they fricking suck to play. Skyward Sword is the way it is because it was made partially by ex-Capcom devs. You even fight Akuma at the end

One game-spanning interconnected dungeon with different biomes. Lots of characters you can interact with voluntarily but very little mandatory exposition

  24. 4 weeks ago

Keep the BOTW formula, but scrap the shrines and replace them with classic dungeons. Make it like Zelda 1 where you can technically do them in any order, but the enemies are harder if you try to do them in another way. Have some other method for fast travel, maybe just POI like in Skyrim.

    - Remake Wind Waker with the Breath of the Wild engine

    >Keep open world
    >Make progression more linear
You don't even have to be FULLY linear, you can always let the player wander off and reach places they were (entirely) meant to by making creative uses of the items they get. I enjoyed totk, with its somewhat back to for of dungeon+item+use item on boss, but i'd like something more in depth like getting a hookshot or the spinner or something bizarre like the domain rod.
They can well marry both styles of games into a single one, totk tried it. I feel one more time and it will truly be golden.

I guess I ran into false information online, since I had heard that Shigeru Miyamoto is already dead (I don’t check in Shigeru Miyamoto a lot since I quit buying Nintendo after the Wii, and focus primarily on PC gaming ever since I was old enough anyways). Since he is still alive, that means I have said some things on Ganker that he would ordinarily not have had access to, if I hadn’t known he still alive. He wouldn’t be able to read it though since he prefers Japanese. Like when I was not even double digits years old, still on the carpet playing Nintendo games, i remember the day it offended me that Mario and Luigi weren’t the same anymore after Super Mario Brothers 1 (nes) with the 2nd game, it went back to being the same in 3 but then after that they stopped entirely making Luigi like Mario and they decided to take Luigi to extremes to where he is this special different character with higher jumps now, or he has different games that are completely different, or his height and head have to be taller at least in his games he is absolutely forced to have the same rule set as Mario. And other things in Zelda threads and stuff. Miyamoto actually didn’t make Mario 2 according to his Wikipedia, he made 1 and 3, and Zelda’s on the NES, meaning he was the one who gave us the good Mario games. Well, Miyamoto just later on accepts the new Luigi character, it like he was forced to or he didn’t realize that Nintendo has a snake crawling in and deceiving him. There is still more info I could share like talking about how friends I knew while growing up still don’t think anything bad happened even after covid , and trannies. It like the homosexuals in the world are numb to their own darkness. Could even go into talking about the antichrist. Since white Christian European America is being subverted by Old Testamentist Goyim Generator israelites, Miyamoto would either be heavily involved with that intentionally or accidentally, and would be important to get saved as Christian
