Since the Fallout 4 "Next Gen" update. I've lost complete confidence. Their incapable of making another competent game. It's been almost 13 years since Skyrim released. There's no way they still have the same talent that made Skyrim working on this project. The Elder Scrolls Online and Fallout 76 ruined Bethesda.

Skyrim isn't shit, but it isn't great either. It's a fun enough and good adventure game, and also a terrible RPG.
What Skyrim was, was the beginning of the end for Bethesda.

I'm sure a "milk a license however you like" policy with minimal licensing fee would make Publisher more money and help nurture creativity this industry lack for the last decade.

In essence, be a bit more like Games Workshop. Wehn you see what Disney do with star war it's not like there is any kind of decency or canon sacrality left anyways. Embrace chaos, the audience will choose what they like. Publishers, be the libertarian you wish the government was.

            >fast travel is restricted, given as a reward, consumes resources, has to be used strategically

            bad game design:
            >fast travel from anywhere
            >not integrated to gameplay, pulls you into loading screen
            >map is designed around it
            >moving from point A to B becomes a chore without it

Nah, he's right about the game being designed around it even if it's optional.
FO4 has survival mode that disables map fast travel, but many quests clearly expect you to be able to fast travel as they repeatedly send you all the way across the map and back just to talk to someone or pick up a simple item. There's even a fast-travel while encumbered perk that is completely useless in survival mode.

They just need to restrict the fast travel to certain locations like friendly towns, so you can skip long walks across the entire map but still have to venture out a bit to get to your final desination.

i personally like fast travel, i see no issues with skipping the walk to places that ive already been to, im sure you hold Morrowind to some golden standard because it was what you played as a teen but for me, games like that are tedious not fun.

He's not, in my last Skyrim gameplay I didn't use fast travel, and I found a new rsndom encounter every 10 seconds, because the game spawn them assuming you're rarely walking around the map. Also, it is known that dragons spawn faster if you're using fast travel, because it refreshes the game, so you barely find dragons if you don't. The game make it clear you're not supposed to play without it.

You can't when they design quests poorly and have someone on one side of the map make you go to the other, then back and back again.

Fallout4 is like pulling teeth without fast travel. The only saving grace is the vertibird grenades which means you can't become enemies with the BoS or you're fricked.

Just curious but which one is more important when it comes to an rpg. The number dialogue options or a heavier emphasis on stats.

                Anonymous

Hmm... for an RPG probably dialogue options. Which is a big reason why there's not very many good modern RPGs. Personally since I kinda prefer immersive sims, I like heavier emphasis on stats.
Now what's the most important factor for me when it comes to either RPGs and Immersive Sims...
Freedom of Choice. I want creative freedom to play the game how I want to play it.

Absolute zero storyhomosexualry, character creation like in M&B, Kenshi or Rimworld with backstory of your character that influences where you will spawn and your relation to factions
1:1 World scale with procedural generation, I'm tired as frick of everything being scaled down
Campaign map layer like in M&B or Battle Brothers, in order to "fast travel" you need to manage resources and have enough provisions

In fact, They're so fricking low that if they just re-skinned skyrim for highrock or hammerfell and slapped on elswheyr dlc then that'd exceed them.

You can turn it into a pretty fun dishonored lite with enough mods and ones that good content.

The main problem is that people are so afraid to bulldoze over vanilla content that it's annoying. Like I get that editing the word walls is a pain in the ass but completely overhauling stuff that uses generic forts or even dwemer dungeons should be more common.

Skyrim already has the barebones foundation for it tho. Adding depth to it is incredibly natural and doesn't even clash with the level design either since both games were made without dodging in mind so it works with any mod added content too.

It's mostly the nordic dungeons I don't like. The forts and dwemer tilesets are more open and fun to interact with but suffer from being used in questlines where they don't make sense ("""college""" of winterhold)

I think it's because they tend to be more open and have more verticality so them being straight lines isn't as immediately noticeable.

I enjoy most of them, they all have their own flavors and quirks

adding on to my previous point. like if the right eye of the falmer was in a synod occupied fort or something that would fit the criminal vibe of the tg way better than going through a dwemer ruin. The dwemer tileset only worked in markarth because it was a museum.

Also the college quest that has you going to the fort really should just be bulldozed over with summoning something in the midden to get the books back because why the frick would anyone send a student to a fort filled with bandits??? yes I know that they're black mages but still.

but really, it's the nordic ruins in both the companions and tg questlines that infuriate me the most because of how unfitting they are but also how you can't bulldoze over them easily without causing big problems.

like I get that gallus was a nerd but making a sewer dungeon in markarth would fit the more urban vibe of the tg better and it still works because markarth is a dwemer ruin.

also like I get that yssgramor was the dragon cult guy so his dungeon fits as a finale but the one before that for the shards is annoying.

I dunno take the interior from that dungeon modify it to be good and assign it to yssgramor's tomb so that the player can still get both words would also work better. thematically too because it would show how big a deal this guy was to the dragon cult to have two-word walls dedicated to him.

then you can overhaul everything before that so it's good content.

basically, what this game needed is less fricking dragur.

yeah i basically agree with your sentiments but its just like the caves in oblivion or the crypts in Morrowind, every game has "that" type of stock dungeon

                Anonymous

The reason why its more annoying here is because they tied your shouting progress to one very specific tileset (aside from like one random cave) so whenever you want to become a master of words in a new playthrough it gets really annoying.

Like moving the dungeons with word walls in their interior and merging them with places that have word walls in their exterior would do a lot.

More in depth customization with the blacksmithing skill, I wanna truly make my weapons and armor my own. Different styles, mixing materials with alloys or just using multiple metals on different parts of one piece of armor/weaponry. Each metal should offer different strengths and bonuses other than just "number go up" same with spells, I like what they did with skyrim where the 3 main elements each affect a different bar, so more elements that each have specific uses in different situations, maybe some just combo well with others, like water and lightning, or fire and air, some could be more effective in specific situations, like what if there was Holy moon magic you get from azure that does different damage based on the phases of the moons, and even more damage to vampires/ at night. Autistic details like that make everything a bit better imo.

    (from 3:36)

For people betting on mods to save ES6: Bethesda now hire modders to make mods straight to creation club. They just made modding, the most free and creative part of their games, souless. Not only that, but they're not even mods anymore since they're being made officially, how is that different from a DLC? At this point they may as well ban non "official mods", or force modders to integrate them into cc, and of course charge for them. Them releasing creation kit was amazing and the best thing a game company ever did to modders, but of course they wouldn't stop there and waste such a huge opportunity to profit. It's literally over for ES6.

Every now and then, I think "Hey, I'd like to try playing Oblivion again", but then I start remembering everything wrong with it, and realize all of these problems are so heavily baked into the game that you can't fix them with mods. Bethesda needs to conquer their fear
Elder Scrolls is being held back because they're scared that fans might be overwhelmed by simple systems
This thinking had a negative impact on character building, traveling, factions, quests, just about everything
Essential npcs aren't in the games because they love them, it's because they're scared that players could be turned off by the game if they ever kill a quest relevant character by impulse or accident and possibly because of the extra work needed to make an alternative approach, like restoring Wraithguard on your own
Just grow a pair, the games gonna be a massive hit even if you don't try to appeal to 99.9% of all players, they'll even respect you
As it is right now they're making games with the assumption that the people who play them are hopelessly moronic

      Anonymous

This is ultimately what all Bethesda games have become and will become and we cannot do anything about it because of normalgays. Sadly, ES and Fallout are doomed to eternally be simplified action RPGs and mod platforms and that's it. The only reason their earlier games were good was because their fanbase and employees were made of actual RPG nerds. Sadly, the real fans don't matter anymore since catering to them will not make money. Causal gaming has killed video games and I hope there will be another huge video game market crash because of it.

The success of Fromsoft should've taught them by now, as it did other modern game studios, but i guess there's someone in Bethesda who really can't seem to get it. Even playing Starfield you get the impression that the devs are still stuck in the past with how easy and simplified the gameplay is.
