GMDX is like a Vanilla + mod, I can't go back after using it.

GMDX is the best overhaul mod

I think there is another good vanilla+ mod that is more vanilla friendly than GMDX

Same, it's just too good not to use

I know plenty of people who dislike it but I liked the nameless mod

GMDX is excellent and I'll probably never replay the game without it. For a first run, though, I'd probably just go with vanilla or biomod.

Nameless Mod is based as frick and people who dislike it aren't really people.

Nameless mod is only fun if you were a planetgay. Otherwise it'll just be a bunch of incoherent nonsense without context.

I wasn't a planetgay and it is an excellent mod with great level design, some interesting tweaks to the gameplay, and a compelling story which does a good enough job of explaining who the characters are and what their relationships with each other are.

TNM rocks, literally one of the most fun mods (or really a whole fricking game) that i've played.

nah, I never browsed those forums, the story's pretty coherent and self-contained.

The redesign should be complete this year. I'm playing the original in preparation and it holds up really well. Managed to get it working with Kentie's Launcher with some tweaks too. Here's what I did:

How to use The Nameless Mod with Kentie's Launcher (Deus Exe):
      - Backup your Deus Ex and TNM.exe files.
      - Replace the deusex.exe with the one from the Kentie launcher archive.
      - Get rid of TNM.exe. Copy and rename the new deusex.exe, to TNM.exe
      - Run The Nameless Mod from the shortcut it put on your desktop.
      - Make sure the mod is enabled, from the Data Directories button in the Kentie launcher.

For Nameless Mod, this will result in conversatino text being too big for the screen. To fix this, type either of these commands in the console (' or press t and delete "Say:")
      toggleconvofonts
      set trestkon bUseSmallConplayfonts true

The redesign is way better than the OG imo, its level design really blows me the frick away, and I've learned a shit ton about what I really feel good design is just from playing it. It's already like 90% done anyway, u just have that last 4 levels or w/e incomplete, but imo the meat of the game is all that shit before it that mainly takes place in the city and all the cool areas around there.

(also man, that one shop with the insane impossible-geometry/non euclidean hallway, so fricking cool.)

      I like revision

you're fricked up man but that cat is alright.

I like GMDX and TNM. Also vaguely remember a mod called Redsun 2020, but I have no idea if it was actually good or if I had nothing better to do.

GMDX is okay but also really moronic in plenty of ways. It's good for a playthrough but shouldn't be used for a first playthrough and will never replace the OG.

    The Nameless Mod for me.
I absolutely love the gameplay. It's on par, if not a little bit better than the original.
The plot and writing is another story however. Considering the whole thing afaik was the project of an old forum, it's replete with inside jokes and references. It's pretty alien and I have a feeling it might filter most people.

I didn't know about this forum or its users or any lore whatsoever, but I still enjoyed it a lot. I love the OST as well.

      >I absolutely love the gameplay. It's on par, if not a little bit better than the original.
Yeah, totally agree there. The main level designer learned all the right lessons, and in general it just plays so well to both all the game's strong spots and making (the harder parts) a lot harder but in a nuanced way, which in turn actually makes you have to think mor.

      >The plot and writing is another story however.
Thing is, while the intro is HORRIBLE, I've found most of its writing is actually tolerable, arguably even "good" when weighted for being a mod, it's just that its lows get really low because it's someone on their bad mic being lolsorandumb. Even then, a lot of the latter aspect is usually not even bad really, they play it pretty well with the goats and llamas, especially if you just let go a little and go along for a ride with it being early 2000s forum culture nerds.

Although really I suppose this gets pretty heavily benefited by Trestkon's VA, who almost sounds a bit like Kevin Conroy (RIP) and really pulls off the role well. He really just makes it all work, he's a great not-JC and really ties the mod together, especially when he has to deal with some of the lower-end VAs.

Vanilla first with Kentie Launcher to fix the UI and resolution.

After that I just play GMDX because it's legitimately better balanced.
