Mario Odyssey, Gravity Rush, Neon White, Pseudoregalia, Mighty Switch Force 1/2, Sly 2

      Here's the fundamental rules IMO:
      >the gameplay itself should be fun, ideally MOVEMENT based in a way that just playing it even with no objective would be fun, which drives the player to want to spend as much time in the world as they can
      >the overall presentation, music, and visuals should be pleasant for similar reasons
      >the content should be relatively uniform, meaning don't have "that one minigame" that sucks the life out of players (Spyro 3 has this problem in spades)
      >no RNG-based rewards that lead to the player having to do repetitive tasks in desperate hope of a different result (treasures in Spirit Tracks, rare drops in many RPGs)
      >finally, no "comb the entire world for the one thing you missed" style tasks that usually result in the frustrating task of looking up a guide and checking each spot one by one); ideally the game will be very clear about where you missed a collectible, and it will be within a reasonable area (such as one 'level') to search

Arkham Origins. 100%ing means doing the awful predator Dark Knight challenges (you must complete the challenges IN ORDER of the story predator rooms or you have to wait for NG+ and the one-life NG++ to do them) and collecting every Riddler data pack for the reward of literally nothing, you do not get a scene and you do not catch the Riddler, you just get to see a shoebox sized room with a Riddler trophy prototype.

      >Unfortunately, many of them require 100% completion to get the true ending
Not true. Doing all 4 teams in Heroes and all 10 routes in Shadow isn't 100% completion. 100% completion is getting every A rank for every mission on every level in those games, and then beating Super Hard/Expert mode. Takashi Iizuka really liked the 100% completion grind; it's hardcore in all 4 of the Sonic games he directed, but SA2's is probably the hardest.

SMTII has these annoying side activities that you really want to do because the rewards are great but the grind takes forever even on an emulator with fast-forwarding. If you get 9 of a gem then you get a noticeable stat bonus as long as you hold onto those 9. Gems are dropped from specific monsters and due to the nature of the game, story events can make those monsters stop spawning so the second you see one you want to stop what you're doing and grind 9 right there.

Then I had to force myself to not use the casino for the sake of sanity.

I hate 100% all games. I wish achievements didn't exist. I wish stats and grades were not recorded and only show up during or at the end of your play through. I don't care about high scores. I just want a challenging game and I want to beat it on my own term. That's all I care about. Beating something in X amount of time, or beating X without doing X are challenges that I should impose on myself, not something the game should request of me. I especially hate time sink challenges and achievements, or ones that require you do some arbitrary action that no one would do if it weren't for the achievement. Audio logs and collectibles always suck too. I have no problem with games hiding secrets throughout levels to encourage exploration, but secrets should just be power ups to be used during a play through, not something mandatory to get context around the story or to achieve 100%. Sure, I could ignore all these extra challenges and achievements, and I do, but they still frustrate me because it makes me feel like I didn't really beat a game even though I did.

100% a game is a waste of time. There is nothing of value to get by that point. You've experienced the unique bits, you've seen what you'd get when naturally playing it, maybe a few optional parts. Why would you want to redo everything just so you can see a different scene that changes what happens to a character? What is actually different? Do you gain anything from it? You want to 100% a game because you want to waste your own time, not because it's worth it. The same people obsessed with doing it have started and stopped countless other endeavors, but treat games as sacred texts that need to be inhaled from start to finish.

Death Stranding was like this for me - S ranked every standard order on very hard after beating the main story, and after that got all the achievements, because I was just enjoying the game so damn much I wanted the experience to last as long as possible.

I aint about to go 100% a game I've stopped enjoying just for the achievements on my profile, or to unlock some shitty alternate ending or a skin for my character.

I completely disagree. Maybe it's because i love puzzle games so much, but in a way i feel like every game is a puzzle game to some extent in the sense that you need to do something to reach its conclusion, what that something is is up to the player to figure out. Some games are harder to solve than others. Even action based games are puzzle games to an extent.

Only game I ever platinum'd was Enter the Gungeon. The minecart kill achievement took fricking ages but it was the only one I had left after just playing naturally so I felt obligated.

I've never 100%'d a game and never will, the closest I got was Just Cause 2 and something like 97% but iirc that game is bugged and you can't 100% it.

Whenever I think about this my mind immediately goes to Yoshi's Island. Multiple completion objectives thst counter eachother so its impossible to 100% a level in one run. Lots of one way door collectables and dont get me started on the red coins looking almost identical to every other coin. A modern example would be crash 4, thats even worse.

I love this game and have somewhere around 90% completion but there's a few superbosses that counter my on-foot build and I just can't be bothered grinding the materials to make a skell that can beat them. Also frick the red lobster quest.

      You and me both

Finished the game at 98% survey rate because frick the post-game grind.

I also never completed the Blood Lobster quest. I hope the moron that thought it was a good idea to say there was 99 lobsters but make it so HALF OF THEM DON'T SPAWN IN UNTIL YOU FOUND THE FIRST 50 so by that point 49 of them are now in spots you probably already looked at got fired, and I hope all 99 are spawned in from the start in an eventual remake.

        Anonymous

God yeah, I looked up a guide once I'd collected about 30 and I gave up on ever finishing it when I saw half the lobsters weren't even spawned in yet and I had no clue which spots I'd been to.
Still hoping for an XCX2 but I'm not holding my breath.

There are some people who legit love to know everything about their favorite games and it was standard to 100% your favorites prior to the cancer of API/UI driven achievements. The people who achievement hunt for the sake of it are depressed to some degree. My steam account rating is still below 20 despite owning probably 100 games and doing everything in the game on a few of them, achievements are artificial as frick

i loaded up the game to finish the game and apparently my save was corrupted in rockstar cloud

that was the first and last time i will ever try to 100% a game lol
