Could you please elaborate why?
What generation do you dislike the most when it comes to the pokemon themselves?

8
they're stinky
So is 9
The smell comes from the games
I hated 4 for relying too much on prior-Gen evolution and Legendaries, but I would be lying if I didn't say Gen 8 had the worst batch overall.
2 > 1 > 3 >>>>>>>> 5 > 4 >>>>> 7 > 9 >>> 8
>forgets six
Yes exactly i feel the same.
I’d lower 2 behind 1 and 3 though, mostly because of the babymons.
I have no idea how I forgot Gen 6. I guess it really is just that forgettable.
lmao
Whenever I think of 6's new Pokemon, I think megas. And Greninja. Most of the new Pokemon that came with 6 are pretty forgettable, and they managed to fuck up the one new bug type. Most mons from here that aren't called Noivern or Clawitzer I forget easily.
Gen 8
The mons really feel like they were designed in 3D first and they end up looking like plastic toys.
Plus it’s just a very un-cohesive dex. You’ve got a UFO ladybug, Roman Kirbys, a Gene Simmons badger, etc. and it just feels like a bit much. And it doesn’t help that the region/routes are absolutely tiny, so there’s no chance to do any theming and most of the mons just feel crammed into a vaguely-fitting corner.
Gen 8, closely followed by Gen 9.
in terms of the real generations, 4
they all just look too "safe and marketable" and have ugly color palletes, plus like half the regional evos ruined their lines plus its the only one of the real generations that doesnt have a large amount of pokemon i want to have sex with
in terms of the generations that arent canon and never happened, 9 because it just gets worse and worse
What is the canon cutoff point, in your opinion?
game freak went bankrupt and tpci decided to focus solely on mobile games after ultra sun and moon somehow only sold ~500,000 units due to being delayed to feburary 2018 and gen 8 was in development hell for too long and covid made them end up cancelling it this is canon
>wanting to have sex with pokemon
Opinion discarded
Idk I feel this way more about gen 9. Everything is crammed and it all gives me a headache
Croagunk, Garchomp, and Gastrodon are some of the only Pokémon I like from Sinnoh. The rest are really unappealing and the only explanation I can find is that it's one of Japan's favorite region so maybe they went hardcore in tailoring only to Japanese tastes. I don't like the starters, I don't like the cross gen evos, I don't like most of the legendaries, and I just realized that's most of the dex. I know a lot of the Pokemon are popular and a lot get official shilling like Lucario and Rotom but for me they have no appeal.
You like fucking Garchomp? Literally both of prevos look better than it, even though Chomp gets a ton of exposure because of how busted he is/was.
Gen 5 for obvious reasons
It is gen 5
When everyone (normal people not you guys) started to hate Pokemon again
Became a laughing stock
Gen V was so bad GF permanently reduced the number of Pokemon they make each gen, it was unprecedented poor reception
But gen 5 is good wdym?
don't worry about it anon, the lad's just baiting
I hated gen 5 too. I'm warming up to it since we got emulators and pkhex, but like I just felt we reached almost perfection in the Johto remakes just to go several steps back.
8 is absolutely the worst but I don't really like 5 either which is annoying since you're forced to use them in BW.
9. I like at least half of the pokemon from every other gen, even 8, but in gen 9 most of them are mid/bad
Forgot to mention that I also dislike gen 6's dex too but not as much as 8 and not nearly as much as 9
Galar had some low lows but the highs were high imo and the ideas behind certain mons weren't bad. Its honestly meh for me. But even though they have mons that I like, I can't say I feel strongly about Kalos or Paldea
4 has the most ones I dont like.
Lickylicky is awful, Burmy line has neat designs but are wasted potential, Staraptor line was always meh for me, Magnezone is neat concept but wish it was slightly more serious
Paldea. The designs and the graphics of the game just don't do it for me.
How are more people saying Gen 8 than Gen 9?? I can’t think of a single mon I like from the latter that isn’t a form/evo of an existing mon from a previous gen.
Gen9 shills are actually retarded
>muh heckin lechonk design so good!
both recency bias and the fact that SV as games are arguably better than SwSh
besides, SV technically doesn't have a full dex yet (because we KNOW we're getting more new shit with the DLC), while every other generation is complete. Might not be too late for some people who hate gen 9 to find a new favorite in the DLC, like I did in Galar with G-Zapdos.
That being said, these people are still retarded. 9 is at least as bad as 8 (even if I find it worse), anybody who says otherwise is absolutely deluding themselves.
>recency bias
bullshit
Galar's designs just fucking suck and Paldea was a massive step up from that mess of a region, people weren't calling Alola worse than Galar a gen ago
It's not just about designs you like it's about designs you hate, and Gen 8 definitely has more hateable designs
Gen i has more I'm apathetic too
I hate a lot of gen 9 mons more
there's a bunch of cool mons in gen 9. the 4 legendary ruins alone are well, 4 good ones.
8 has 2 at most
8 had nothing memorable.
With the exception of Ceruledge, I atleast remember most of the Galarmons.
I have to keep look up the names of the Paldeamons.
Ceruledge was Paldea not Galar...
>Paldea is so bad that the few good ones gets mistaken for another gen
kek
Every gen has at least some pokemon I think are cool, but unironically, gen 1 has always been my least favorite batch.
They're all just so bland to me
Johto is just a little too bland for my tastes. Like Kanto at least had some wacky in it to break things up like Blastoise, Jynx, the Hitmons and Magmar but the Johtodex is just too safe for its own good.
>All these people saying 8 just because "muh dex cut"
No, Galar just had a bad dex.
>Grimmsnarl
>Cramorant
>Eternatus
>Alcremie
>Wooloo
Nah too many hits
the only good pokemon in the entire (base game) dex is dragapult
>alright
>good
>so bad that nobody even remembers it despite being a plot relevant legendary
>ugly moeshit
>meme cute design made for marketing then forgotten after release just like lechonk
lol
>meme cute design made for marketing then forgotten after release just like lechonk
Because it and its evolution are not useful on "muh SMOGON". Gen 8 had lots of good designs.
>Because it and its evolution are not useful on "muh SMOGON"
big cope
Weird rent free cope
never thought id see so many shitty takes
ok sheepfucker
>Grimmsnarl
It was nice, so I give you that.
>Cramorant
Shitmon godawful looking vore bird
>Eternatus
Shittiest ever take on ”skeletal dragon” trope
>Alcremie
>Wooloo
Now you just can’t be serious, moron
If you think Wooloo is bad you should have a nice day
>dude sheep but..... it has braids!
It's one of the worst fucking designs.
Alcremie's hot
All those suck
And 6 is not too many hits
of course the vore/fatfag has horrible tastes
>Grimmsnarl
>good
SwSh.
It’s like there was 90% shitters, then maybe 5% average designs and 5% genuine good ones.
Even if there was no dex cut SwSh dex is still as bad as it is.
Gen 8 had all those last minute blocky designs with weird proportions.
I wouldn't say I hate any generation, but sorting them into categories:
>mostly good designs
Kanto
Hoenn
Unova
Alola
>mix of good and bad/boring
Sinnoh
Kalos
Paldea
Hisui
>mainly bad/boring
Johto
Galar
1 8 and 9
1 has a bunch of stuff I just find meh specially early game (only the starters and nidos) while 8 and 9 has a ton of stuff I don't even remember at all
To be fully honest, I think Gen3 remains worst to this day. Other than Shroomish, Breloom, Mawile, and Snorunt, it is very hard for me to summon up appreciation for this dex. PLA made me warm up to Spheal. Registeel is cool I guess.
It's definitely not a total dealbreaker for me or anything. It's the Non-Pokemon aspects that usually bother me about the games more, like Kalos not having any memorable characters other than the E4 milf, or Galar and Paldea just being generally repulsive.
Eh, agree to disagree. Hoenn is the Land of Gimmickmons and a lot of them are fun. Shedinja is still the coolest concept for a Ghost type in the series.
In what world is Hoenn full of gimmicks?
>Slaking
>Shedinja
>Spinda
>Castform
>Kecleon
>Deoxys
6 mons really isn’t that much.
You forgot Clamperl, Milotic, Plusle and Minun, the entire Wurmple line and Skitty/Delcatty.
Hoenn definitely does struggle with the large amount of single stage and 2-stage gimmick mons, but I think they're arguably some of the better gimmickmons in the series, so it balances out.
Grumpig might be one of the worst pokemon ever made.
Especially for how much of a downgrade from Spoink it is.
how dare you
Bad taste
IX probably looks the worst. I like the Tinkaton line even though it looks like a Kirby character, there are some standout designs like Kingambit and new evolutions to old Pokémon, but a lot of the original designs feel like they don't even belong in Pokémon. I'd like Ceruledge in Medarot, but not in Pokémon.
VIII has some designs I guess. I don't feel too strongly about them, Corviknight is cool, G-max Centiskorch and Toxtricity are cool, I'm the only one who likes Duraludon.
For VII, I'm sick of people giving it a pass because "they show so much personality!". I don't care, I really don't. These are the people who like Platinum Lucas, Nate, ORAS Archie, and USUM Elio because they're soooo quirky and outlandish in comparison to their previous designs (using Hilbert here as a reference for Nate) and it just fucking sucks. There are Pokémon I like in Gen VII like Golisopod, but the personalities are borderline anthropomorphic, like Drampa is Dragon Grandpa, it's supposed to be like an old man. They could have made an aged dragon without humanizing it.
VI has some solid designs, nothing I particularly hate other than Barbaracle, what the holy fuck is that.
V is there. I feel like since there are so many it's bound to have good ones like Braviary and Galvantula, but you also get ones that are just there. Beartic is a polar bear Pokémon, good concept, but it doest really do anything interesting with its design.
7 was the last generation I liked but even half of those mons I don't feel super strongly about. I like a few pokemon here and there from the newer ones but generally they're dogshit because they're either autistically overdesigned or lazily underdesigned. I noticed gen 9 had the recurring gag/theme of pokemon changing 1 minor detail after evolving and that's it. Sounds funny in theory, in practice it's kinda disgusting. Also the cries are so lazy now, anons mocked me for being autistic last time I brought this up but the point flew past everyone's head, using a stock sample is fine if they change it significantly enough to sound unique. Using a stock sample that's been overused in all sorts of media and using it almost raw is what pisses me off. Pokemon like Chien Pao and Spectrier literally use Ed, Edd 'n Eddy tier sound effects with barely any editing that makes it sound unique to pokemon, compare that to something like Purrloin which is a cat meow but it sounds unique and specific, the equivalent would be like if they gave Purrloin that Oggy and the Cockroaches cat yowl with barely any editing over it, or if Reshiram's roar was just the classic Jurassic Park t-rex roar with some fire sfx over it. Oh and the evolution methods in sword and shield... what the fuck even
And you can't accuse me of funding this shit since I've never touched a pokemon game on the switch
Gen 3. My reason might sound weird but I don't dislike any of them but I can count the ones I do like on one hand. The extreme mediocrity of the designs is soul crushing. I'll take a mix bag of great and shit designs like most of the other generation over the nothingness I feel for Gen 3.
Gen 9 is so horrendously bad that I can barely even consider most of them pokemon. Galar had some real stinkers, but it also had a majority acceptable designs and some gems. There's just nothing good in paladea, and only a handful of not terrible ones
Hoenn. I was 10 when it came out and still crazy loved pokemon, and I played the shit out of it for 400 hours. Then, one day, out of nowhere, I stopped in whatever route I was in and stared at my character and realized I fucking hated it after all the time I had spent in it.
The spritework was detailed compared to the prior games, but I hated the narrow shapes and coloring of almost everything. The trees, the trainers, the sprite shading. Gameplay-wise the pokemon were mostly a disappointment for me. The locations, though seemingly interesting, were kind of boring once you got over the 'wow it's a volcano' or 'ooh tree forts' factor. The music was bright and exciting for the first fifty hours but then it became too aggravating- the loud tracks, and the quieter ones. The town music was forgettable. The game trained me to keep my volume at 0% at all times. The routes weren't fun to run through after the first time exploring them, and I hated the common encounters. Somehow I hated Wingull more than Tentacool- but I didn't even have the option to catch a Tentacool.
I still played with classmates, but I went back to gen 1+2.
Why would you lie like this. Tentacool is in Hoenn, it's half the damn water encounter table. What does this gain you?
My bad, I just genuinely don't remember any pokemon beyond being plagued by Hoenn shitters in every encounter.
Gen 9, easily
everything gen 5 and above equally dog shit
>gen9 so bad that shills have to say "everything" is bad to deflect
Kek
gen 4 only has one pokemon that I really like
>pokedex
Hoenn, too many boring pokemon lines multiplied by 2
Gen 8 probably. It really is the worst gen for a lot of reasons, but the dex is just boring.
Gen 2. The starters are awful. The legendary dogs are boring. The baby Pokemon are completely unnecessary. The pseudo is a shitty Godzilla ripoff.
What's objectively the worst galar mon? Stojourner? Ya it had some ugly designs like chewtle and greedent, but they're far from the worst. Really only the rocks and penguin are abominations to me
This. Galar also has Mr. ryme who's even worse than Mr. mime which used to be my most hated Pokemon until Stojourner
I actually like Mr. Mime and Mr. Rime, but I can easily see why people don't. Gen 8 isn't a good game but i thought the dex was solid, outside of the few very very bad exceptions. Corvinight, dreadnaw, barraskewda, hatterene, grimsnarl, gossifleur, dragapult and more are all great designs
duraludon
Lmao I completely memory holed the toilet dragon, ya that's the worst one but far. I think worst goes
Duraladon>stojourner>inteleon>eiscue
I'd say Coalossal, because it just suddenly becomes a pile of rocks instead of continuing the wheel theme from the earlier stage. The giant form is cool on its own, but Dynamax is gone now.
I don't know why people shit on Coalossal because he's a cool kaijumon. The one people need to shit on is Carkoal who's one of the worst designs in the franchise. If you just skipped from Rolycoaly to Coalossal it'd be much better.
>funny little cart monster that maintains the idea of its prevo
>ugly, generic kaiju for the sake of it that ruins the line and pales in comparison to any of the actually good kaiju
No.
>It's good because it's...... Le funneh! XD
kys
>It's good because it's...... Le kaiju! XD
kys
man it's the ugliest lump of a kaijumon ive ever seen, hell it looks like they gave up designing it half way through cause its back is fucking nothing
I have to give it to Chewtle as the absolute worst, even Unite got me to like Greedent
Gen 8, though I don't know the Gen 9 dex well enough to comment on it. Gen 8 is the first time I ever felt like the art direction of a Pokemon game was lacking. Pic related.
Gen 8 the worst by by far, ugly starters with weird proportions, majority of dex is either bland or an eyesore.
Gen 8 just looks ugly in general. Out of all the gens it has the least Pokemon that I actually like and want to use in a playthrough.
I just fucking hate KANTOOOOfags
4 and 9. Might lean towards 4, need a little more time to ponder the new fellas.
Gen 9 does very little for me.
Usually when I play new games I try to incorporate new mons as much as possible.
In Violet I used two paldeamons (Lokix and Garganacl) and two regionals (Toedscruel and I grabbed Iron Hands as soon as Area Zero was available)
Paldea's just completely forgettable.
Kalos suffers the same issue, but it at least had a few more decent designs.
The kalos dex is like the highest percent of good designs. Partly because it was such a small dex. Outside of maybe furfrou(who hasn't been in for 2 gens) and vilillion, what mons are so forgetable?
Furfrou would probably be more popular if you could change its style on the fly.
The butterfly isn't forgettable the same way Spinda isn't forgettable. Except now it's more marketed than ever.
>used to think I disliked Kalos' dex because of the designs
>turns out I actually like 90% of Kalosmon, outside the starters and iceberg table
Fuck, I'm just retarded. Maybe the starters just clouded my judgment.
It does make me think now that maybe smaller amounts of more memorable designs would be better.
I even like the starters. Greninja and Delphox are cool and chesnaught is acceptable. I really don't understand hating on the kalos dex. Do people really hate most of these designs?
For reference here's my take on gen6, there's only a single design I don't like at all. Compared to gen 9, which I would put like 75% of the dex as shit tier
Hawlucha and Gayninja are the only good mons in gen 6. Everything else is awful or forgettable.
i liked a lot of kalos designs also
I gotta ask, why does everyone hate the fat bird? Ya it's not the plague doctor meme people wanted with spritzee, but it's cute
it's not cute and doesn't really look like a good monster design either. it's just evocative of ugly makeup and incredibly strong perfume smells and looks like it was a failed attempt at a "cute" feminine pokemon
doesn't even look like a bird
It's literally just some fluffball bird that smell themed. I can understand not loving it, but there's nothing bad about it. It's a really strong team member in any playthrough too
strength does not equal a good design in the slightest. honestly, you bringing up how good it is competitively pretty much explains why you think that vile abomination is a passable design
I never said competitively, I said playthrough. You'd be surprised how quickly designs can grow on you when you use them on your story team. It really isn't a bad design and you'd know it if you actually gave it a try
this list is incomplete because I really don’t like Noibat and it’s not on here so I can’t say I dislike it with this otherwise-accurate image 🙁
same goes for a few megas like Tyranitar/Aggron but w/ever
XY is a really mediocre batch, it’s full of mon I don’t dislike but don’t really love either. I like the vast majority but I can’t say I have strong feelings on more than a select few. Really really hate Dedenne and Sylveon, while disliking a few others and especially some megas (Aerodactyl and Charizard X are abominations), as well as really really loving the Skrelp and Aromatisse lines alongside the fossils and the dead forest friends, but otherwise it’s just alright. I remember disliking it less lol.
If gen 7 was less focused on being wacky and full of “characters” then it’d probably win out over Kalos really easily. The only thing stopping Kalos from being the worst is the fact that I dislike most of the designs in the generations below it more than I am offended by XY’s mediocrity.
No. It’s tiny, which only amplifies how shit most of it is.
Fossilmons, Hawlucha, and Vivillon (good gimmick) are the only good ones
Do you just rim anuses all day to have taste that shit?
You don’t even have an ass to lick zoomer
Unironically, Gen 2. Too many of them are babymons, unfinished evolution lines, and just boring pokemon in general. It's a even greater shame that the few Johto pokemon I like are trade evolutions like Scizor and Steelix. I struggle hard to make at least half of my team be Gen 2 pokemon whenever I play the Johto games. And top it off, the only Johto starter I like is Feraligatr and I don't see the massive appeal of Typhlosion. Overall, not a very remarkable dex to me.
I never struggle for a gen 2 team because I like so many of them. But I won't deny the distribution and access to them during the game is shit
>only have 100 spots for new because the Game Boy is a piece of crap that can't hold any more
>Having so few new Pokémon make things like version exclusives and trading seem even worse more despite all Pokémon games doing this
>Waste several spots on the universally hated baby Pokémon, while leaving many of the weaker Gen 2 Pokemon without evolutions (because prioritizing useless babies over stronger evolutions is a good idea and totally won't results in Gen 2 being hated for being "Babyish" and "full of shitmons")
>Have the vast majority of wild encounters and NPC teams be mostly Gen 1 Pokémon, while Gen 2 Pokémon are mostly regulated rare encounters with some not even appear in Johto for some reason
>All this is was because Johto and Kanto are supposedly interconnected, yet this connection mysteriously vanishes when it comes to handing out stuff like megas, gigas, extrememly wide movepools and Dexit immunity. Kanto starters get all of that stuff, while Johto starter get nothing but neglect, mockery, and being powercrept by everyone else becaase Johto isn't allowed to have nice things.
Gen2 had would have been top tier but Game Freak's utter impotence/spite/fear of KANTOOOO being overshadowed ruined it.
definitely agree. the original pokes of gen 2 are often good, sometimes i think they're really cool, but the sheer abundance of babymons and unfinished/watered down (take octillery and spinarak for example) mons there are detracts from the quality a little
Getting filtered by octillery of all things. Pathetic
no, i like octillery loads, i'm just saying they watered it down, and as a result the tank theming became less clear
This + too much smooth shapes and ”toy-like” aesthetics on literally everything besides like 2/3 lines
Either 7 or 8
almost none could be said to be my favorites
I don't care for most of Gen 6's pokemon
3 > 7 > 2 > 1 > 6 > 5 > 4 > 9 > 8
I genuinely enjoy most designs. Even though Gen 8 is last, there's only 10 or so in there that I don't like.
I like at least some Pokemon from every generation, not particularly "disliking" any of those. But either Gen 5 or Gen 8 probably has the fewest Pokemon that I actively like as a matter of feeling just kind of indifferent about a lot of them.
gen two, it has no unique identity, its gen 1.5, its a dlc for kanto in modern terms
gen 4 for what i call the biggest jump in detail creep, just tacking on visual elements willy-nilly. it really is proto-unova but make it joyless. lucario is emblematic of contemporary game freak's worst inclinations.
Gen 6, closely followed by 9.
I wanna say 8 or 9 because there's 90% garbage, but also gen 4 brought Lucario and I'm so sick of that shillmon I stopped watching JN when a Riolu showed up, so I'm gonna vote that
Probably 6. I dislike its fairies and reliance on Megas
A lot of Pokemon from the gens 7 to 9 are quite literally just palette swaps of previous ones.
Which ones?
regional forms, duh
oh shit i have no idea if i hate 8 or 9 more. they are the same shit. might as well be the same game. that obvious look of the dex to me where i know they just modeled the first scribble for most of these and didnt care about it being coherent. some obviously had more time put into than others which makes them look even more jarring standing next to each other. damn even the modern artstyle i dont like got exaggerated to such a degree where im just repulsed now or im rolling my eyes. proportions like pawmi line, spidops, gay duck, orbeetle, blipbug, chewtle, intelleon are a perfect example of what i mean. then theres a ton that are just downright hideous. some of them dont even need the weird proportions. nah theyre just ugly. before 8 i never had these giant issues with the dex where i cringed at almost everything i saw kek.
8, too many ugly fursuits. Cinderace is still the worst Pokemon of all time.
Cursola is cool though.
How can you say that when both string cheese and inceleon exist?
best to worst
3 > 2 > 4 > 5 > 1 > 7 > 8/9 >>>>> 6
Gen 5. Such shit designs all across the board, it was a soft reboot done in the worse way.
Gen 6, there is nothing there that is anything more than passable
At least make your bait believable. Things like pumpkaboo and tyrantrum and universally great designs
You zoomers have absolute shit taste
gen 7 had the best gen 8 had the worst
Gen 8, really no redeemable designs from that place.
I don't like any of the Pokemon in 9, which is a first. Roaring Moon is the only decent design but it's just a recolor of an older Pokemon and shouldn't really count
For me the only passable ones are the thunderbird, new fish, and the meowscarda line. Everything else is complete shit
>named the 3 worst designs in the entire dex
>cat but furbait
>bird but bird
>fish but fish
You can look at them and tell they're pokemon. Unlike
>gay ass duck
>reddit coin ghost bug
>a pink sock with googly eyes and a hammer
I don't like a single Pokemon in Gen 9.
I've always at least been able to make a team of 6 I like, even if it means keeping some from evolving, but SV has been an absolute shitshow.
If Gen 8 has million fans, then I'm one of them.
If Gen 8 has ten fans, I'm one of them.
If Gen 8 has one fan, then I'm that one.
If Gen 8 has no fans, that means I'm dead.
If the world is against Gen 8, then I'm against the world.
Till my last breath, I'll support Gen 8 (pokemon designs)
In terms of bad gens, I think it has to be gen 2
It's old, but not as iconic as Gen 1, so it suffers for being forgetabble (somebody remembers who the second man to step the moon is by heart?).
The starters are bad, the first 'mons are bad, the legendaries & mythicals & etc are bad (compared to now).
7 > 3 > 2 > 9 > 4 > 1 > 8 > 6 > 5
Best to worst
2(alternate universe without baby mons) >3>7>1>4>2>6>9>Power gap> 8
9
Almost every design just completely misses the mark for me on nearly every level
There’s no cohesion amongst the design themselves, a lot of them are outright uninspired rehashes of older mon (but even more blatant this time- not like Unova where they at least try to execute older things differently), so many evolution lines just get worse as they go on and the worst part is that a shitload of CONCEPTS are actually really fucking cool in theory. Golden scarab beetle based on resurrection? Sign me up. Mimic-like with dowsing-rod antennae that gathers coins to build a new body? Sounds awesome. Motherfucking frigate bird that stores electricity in its sac and screams like the devil for its cry? Awesome!!
These are some of my least favorite designs in the dex, save for Kilowattrel which I only dislike as opposed to outright hate.
One-off goofy gimmicks taking center stage, bright and clashing colors, very blatant human-exclusive accessories or analogues/homages to them, extremely blatant theming meant to give an entire species a “role” to make them more character-like, not even the most minute attempt to fit into the series’ extremely loose stylistic standards, rehashes of old designs that are LITERALLY JUST those designs with a few extra parts on them being passed off as something new: these are the things I dislike in a design, and I struggle to think of a single Paldean mon that doesn’t fit any of these descriptors. Even the very few that I genuinely like tick off at least one of these boxes, it fucking sucks.
As for overall generational ranking, it’d probably be like
3 > 1 > 5 > 2 > 6 > 7 > 4 > 8 > 9
or something like that.
2
they look too simple and worst than the 1st gen. It's the embodiment of the "guys i think my dog has anorexia/autism meme"
Gen 5. Many of that gen's worse offenders paved the way for the worst of the worst in today's Pokemon (as a franchise)
Gen 8 and 9 because you can't use all of them.
It's obviously 6 but I don't like 8 or 9 either
You guys really need to check your taste.
Pokemon designs are always great and varied.
I hate Galar as a game, but all galarmons were great.
9 probably has the worst ratio of like to dislike for me
Teyg
Gen 9 for sure. There's a lot of Pokemon that are simply real world animals with little to no fantasy on their designs. Plus with the shitty 3D, I find it hard to appreciate them. They really seem like they were designed around being easy to model rather than looking interesting.
The Paradox mons are some of the worst gimmick designs I have ever seen, in my opinion. Some are just a NFE with some extra bits and some are just a Pokemon but a robot, not even Steel-type sometimes.
Every gen has a few stinkers to me, but Paldea didn't even have a single one I was particularly passionate about.
8. The Pokémon are too on the nose "lol British" with a teapot ghost and Charlie Chaplin and many of them how gaudy colors like Cramorant or are very toony with noodle limbs (Intellion and Impidimp). I find the ones added in Legends really ugly too, like the Dialga fork that looks like it's choking on a watermelon
Gen 8 is so egregiously bad that I have never felt more disgusted with the designs in a Pokemon game. It's the first game where I liked none of the starters and boxed them. It's the first game where I hated both of the legendaries. It's the first game where I don't like the fossils.
When I got around to playing SwSh around a year or so after release, my final team was 4 old gen Pokemon, and Corviknight + Toxtricity. I like those guys. Gen 9 was a big improvement. Big fan of Skeledirge
I have to give it to Gen 8, there are just a lot of ugly looking or "Why" pokemon there like Pincurchin or Thwacky or Chewtle being the absolute worst pokemon in my book.
I was gonna give it to Gen 5 for the same reason but there's a lot more pokemon there that I like, Joltik, Whimsicott, Scolipede or Cofagrigus to name a few
Gen 2 memes asides I feel as a sequel it relies too much on Kanto I feel like if you didn't go back to kanto they could have added so much more to the Johto more Pokemon more lore with the games no cut areas as well as the games are way too easy even as a kid it didn't challenge me like rby did or even rse
gen 8
>a chameleon spy a slam dunk idea
>is a yoai handed muppet
>oh cool Dunkleosteus and raptor pokemon
>mismatched gimmicks
>Oh cool a mechagodzilla rival to Tyranitar
>looks like an inhaler
>a Stonehenge pokemon that could be very interesting golem
>literally just Stonehenge with a face doodled on it
I could go on, the baffling fumbling of ass easy ideas is awful
Gen 5, 6, 8 and 9 all have some of the most atrocious designs of any Gen, but Gen 5 also has objectively the fewest good early game designs and forces you to use them over the superior Gen 1-4 mons, so it is also by far the most egregious and hateable.
When there is not a single Pokemon I don't want to box for the first 20 hours of your game, you fucked up.
gen 4, it's the ones that contains the fewest mons I like, but I also like lots of mons from there (i.e. Gliscor and Shaymin)
I can find very shit designs and very good designs in every gen. I think gen 5 has the most 50-50 ratio of shit to god tier designs
Gen 8, only a handful I like.
Gen 5 is close though.
It's a meme to say the most recent gen but honestly Scarlet and Violet have my least favorite dex of all time. There's less good designs than any other gen and so, so many boring ones that overlap. For instance, there's a huge number of boring birds and a weird fixation on dogmons. The fact that there's so much overlap is weird. And egregiously, there's things like the Pawmi line that just exist to waste slots with evolutions.
Not trying to dismiss your opinion, but what do you feel makes gen 8 superior to it? Just that it doesn't have the issues you mentioned?
Gen 8 was a lot more uneven but benefitted from some very good designs to balance out the absolute shit ones. Gen 9 fewer terrible designs but a ton more boring ones and fewer good ones. Though don't get me wrong, 9 has its fair share of bad ones, and it has the Gay Duck
In terms of Pomemon I consider favourites, Gen 7 added the least. However, the limited designs of 6 and the reliance on Megas takes away a lot from the dex in terms of variety of teams you can make, with reliance on old mons. To an extent 2 suffered this, but they have old mons that evolve.
>mfw this was one of the most productive threads ever
Shit I'll take it.
Gen 9. Ceruledge is rent free, but the rest? Meh. Feels again like a over-reliance of old mons and regionals.
It's a surprisingly civil and insight thread. Let's up that
>what do you think is the best gen?
For me it's 7, Alola had so many good and unique designs with not a single one I hated, but it did have a few mediocre ones. Some of my all time favorites are from here too
i think 2 and 3 are tied, its just been downhill since then, though i do like the amount of chibi mons in gen 5s dex and gen 7s dex was at least better than 6s, otherwise straight downhill slope
>what do you think is the best gen?
Maybe Sun/Moon or X/Y, that is when they have smaller selection of Pokemon where most of them feel like they "belong" to that specific culture or history of the place.
On Alola there is the Yungoos/Rattata rivalry
Totem Pokemon guarding a trial area
The one Honeycreeper dance Pokemon
Lots of good water or water-adjacent Pokemon who remind me of the beach, like Sandyghast, Toxapex Dhelmise, Pyukumuku (or however you spell it)
Kalos has the Knight / Witch / Rouge starter trio
Gogoat farm, where they produce dairy for the cafes in the city
Furfrou hair stylists also in Lumiose City
Pyroar as a symbol of Lysandre's family (Malva has the female one to signify her being his #2)
Honedge possessed by the spirits of soldiers who died in the Kalos wars
The Plague doctor healing Pokemon (Aromatisse?)
And so on
Literally the only ones I don't like are crabominable and silvally/type null. Gen 7 was so fucking good
>silvally/type null.
I thought the idea was cool if underutilized.
generation 3 is the only generation with less than 2 designs that I dislike
Grumpig gets close, but I like it enough on its own merits for me to get over it honestly wasting what potential Spoink had. Salamence has always looked like dogshit to me, but that's it. Everything else is something I'm either pretty happy with, neutral on, or actively really like.
I can't really explain why. I usually don't like pastels, yellow and green are some of my least favorite colors (despite them being on 90% of the dex for whatever reason), and I should really dislike the couple of gimmick pairs obviously made exclusively to shill double battles by my own standards (Plusle/Minun, Volbeat/Illumise, etc).
But for whatever reason I really just don't. By all accounts I shouldn't like the dex at all, but it pulls through and is somehow my favorite. What the fuck lol.
Gen 1 is second place for just having a lot of solid variety. It's an extremely unique dex to this day, with a lot of variation in little things like concept or body shape, and yet it maintains cohesion through little motifs like the Toriyama eyes or oddly-prevalent pseudo-cat ears. The few designs that really don't work can be easily excused as early-day experimentation, and even the plainer designs are still interesting due to those aforementioned motifs.
Gen 5 also gets a mention to satisfy my immense bias for having a bunch of my favorites of all-time, even if the dex itself is hilariously hit or miss. A lot of the early-game designs are really questionable, and not a single legendary or mythical save for the ones on the first games' boxes work, but it easily has the best late-game dex EVER and its midgame is also incredible. Seriously- full of so many home runs, but then you realize those home runs are on the same team as the elemental monkeys and Beartic and you question whether the team as a whole is actually great or if those star players are clouding your perception.
Well I like all of the legendaries...
But yeah I agree, the generation starts out with perhaps one of the weakest line ups out there. I'm glad they tried to do something new, even if it does boil down to "old concepts with a new lens" for most of them, and the quality is hit or miss very early on.
I think the elemental monkeys are basic, but are perfectly fine for what they are.
I'm not a gen 5 shill, and another of the designs don't do it for me, but there's unironically nothing wrong with the monkeys
Either Gen 4, 8 or 9
What's up with gen 4?
I feel that gen had designs with a lot going on with them, perhaps negatively so.
4,5,7, and 9 are a little weak imo. I think 1 and 2 are cream of the crop, and the rest are pretty good too.
Probably gen 8 because it doesn't feel consistent and doesn't really feel British either. I wanted my Nessie Lapras and Excalibur Aegislash damn it.
While gen 5 is my favorite I can understand why people dislike it. Honestly the dex has lows like the monkeys and the genies but then it has really high highs.
Stat wise I can see why people dislike gen 2 and 3 dexes as they're filled with SLOW FRAIL MIXED ATTACKERs. Design wise though they're excellent.
I stared hating the designs when they got more object-like. And when they threw in hideous bara mons.
Now to me, especially in S/V, the pokemon look ai generated for some crappy mobile game and it really puts me off.
I hate: a lot of S/M mons and S/V mons. Galar has a few I dislike to
*too
Wth
5, but not for bait reasons. I just genuinely have a hard time with the dex after Gen 4, breaching 500 pokemon makes it hard to glance and say "this pokemon is good at this and that" from memory, including typing, level up sets, etc. Sure, it's still only ~250 actual families, but once you hit a point where I can't remember all of names, types, loose sets and evolution methods and levels (not to mention base stats), it just becomes too much for me. I stick to pre-5 most days just because I play Pokemon for familiarity. I think I actually put my most hours into a single game into X (ballpark 500 hours) just grinding up shiny teams for comp play, but I can't say I actually LIKED gen 6 - just the ease of team building and shiny breeding, coupled with wondertrading my 4/5IV rejects to get neat shinies and legendaries as a sort of "prize" for each batch that didn't make the cut.
Just could never get into 5, and never even tried to play 7-9.
I had a look at Pokemon I hate from each Gen

I can't say I passionately hated any one design until maybe gen 7. I hate Dedenne but not because it's a bad design, I hate Shaymin Sky but Shaymin Land makes up for it, Hoopa Confined is a mythical so I don't need to look at it much and Sylveon still has a reason to exist. Speculating on its type was also super fun.
Dunno what happened. I think the franchise just took a sharp turn into a direction I greatly dislike. I don't even like more than 5ish mon in Paldea's dex, and couldn't say I liked more than 10 in Galar's even after DLC. Holding out hope that Paldea's DLC might bring me one or two designs I like since Galar's did that, but I have no hope for the designs otherwise.
I forgot Alolan Golem for gen 7
I keep memoryholing that abomination
add that to the list
Woah anon, stop being racism toward muslimon. But fr it is a pretty stupid design even though the concept is great. Facial hair and very unnatural body parts is not good pokemon design
I don't dislike any gen and I'm fully aware that a whole lot of gen1 Pokemon are still the face of the franchise for a good reason but I'd honestly chose gen 1 and 2. The reason is that, starting with gen3 until now, I never wanted to use any Pokemon from those two gen in any newer game again with the only exception being Houndoom.
For me, gen 1 and 2 are generations where almost all pokemons are 6/10 designs. After those there were a lot under 5 but also a lot above 6.
3 > 6 > 7 > 2 > 1 > 4 > 5 > 8 > 9
Gen 6, there's not enough new Pokemon to choose from.
Second place is Gen 5, it takes forever to make a team of 6 unique Pokemon due to the limited pokemon available early in the gam.
Probably Gens 7 or 8 for me.
Too many "make it longer/goofier" alternate forms or evolutions like Weezing, Farfetch'd and Sirfetch'd, Exeguttor, or Darmanitan.
A lot of Pokemon that are just not pleasant to look at like Turtonator, Crabawler/Abominal, Eiscue, Galar fossils, Calyrex, Duraludon or Stonjourner. And Gen 7 was like the first time for me that I said to myself "Damn, I really don't like ANY of these starters."
That said, there are a designs from both gens I really like, such as Type:Null, Silvally, Minior, Orbeetle, Falinks, the Galarian Legendary Bird forms, Grimsnarl's line, Corsola and Cursola, Glastier and Spectrier (a shame they're associated with Calyrex), etc. The other dregs just really bring the bens down.
Gen 6. It's just Gen 1 masturbation. Never listen to nostalgia fags
You're gonna have to explain how gen 6 is anything like gen 1 schizo
I think Gen 5 and 8 were the worst. I fully expected Gen 9 to be worse than 8 but was pleasantly surprised with some of the designs.
gen 3
theres like maybe five at most that i like, but the rest i feel indifference or just plain ugly
i'd count 8 and 9 too but i haven't played them
Probably 6 since we are talking a relative term here, It has some nice ones, but between being the smallest roster, the least interesting Fairies (that it kinda leaned in on because it needed to fill out the typing even with the retcons) and frankly the worst set of Mythicals out of any gen it just stands a cut below the other on average, stil have several evolutionary lines i like in it, but that goes for every gen, doesn't help that it feels like a lot mons are ones i ended up associating with following generations rather then 6 due getting better used in those games (because Gen6 as a whole was very much a "Get upstaged by older mons" situation for anything that wasn't a Fairy, especially due Megas)
Gen 9, partially because the modeling on them is legitimately bad.
Gen 3. I honestly don't know why this is the case, but something about Generation 3's new Pokedex additions just don't sit well with me.
>all these fags saying hoenn because they couldnt teansfer their bros
>no actual reasons besides “i dont like it”
Predictable.
For me, its Gen 6. Everything is too angular or too sleek, it feels like a pastiche of gen 4 and 5 without an identity of its own. They “girly” mons are too blatantly girly, and the cooler mons are too blatantly cool, if that makes any sense.
Also had greninja, the best example of wasted potential in a starter evo
