Second, you have to stealthily behead 100 troons without being detected, and harness the autism cubes that lies dormant beneath their gallbladders. Which is easier said than done, I don't know if you've ever handled an autism cube before, but they are incredibly fickle and brittle. Just like Armored Core definitely did some changes, Sekiro for all purposes was their "modern fromsoft" design version of Tenchu/Kuon/Otogi and I don't see Tenchu coming back in its classic form. They outright said Sekiro started as a Tenchu and they wouldn't double back and say "Let's actually make that true Tenchu game" but if I turn out to be wrong I won't complain.
Although I do somehow seeing an outright Kuon sequel happening, but it'll definitely just be a slower paced and eastern magic focused Sekiro with a much grimmer atmosphere because they can easily market it as a spiritual sequel to Bloodborne/Sekiro or something weird. I think their action game format with tweaks and pacing feel adjustments is here to stay.

Itagaki isn't the reason those games were good, it's just that most of the design staff that were the reason walked at the same time he did. Itagaki's design principles are skewed and to an extent petty; there's making your game hard because you want it to be hard and then there's making changes to your game to spite people.
Team Ninja needed a madman with a vision like Itagaki, but Itagaki needed his team to reel him back in from time to time.
Itagaki hasn't released one good game since NG2, while the design staff that left TN at the same time at Soleil have put out a handful of decent to very good games, their worst release being the one Itagaki actually directed. I won't say you can't feel his influence on a project but it's much more on a tonal/vibe level than the actual game part. Despite lacking in budget for polish or graphics, Samurai Jack Battle Through Time which had very little Itagaki involvement was really good and clearly has Ninja Gaiden DNA in its design.
