What happened to Visual Novels? Is the genre dying? It's like after Steins Gate in the late aughts everything has been on a downward trend, fewer releases, less original stories. What needs to be done to fix it?

vns arent games
forgot to mention that I am trans btw
Stfu homosexual the higurashi writer is writing the new silent hill game. Vns are entering a new era soon
It's going to suck, R07 hasn't done anything good in ages.
ciconia is great frick off moron
Itch.io, Steam, and Gamejolt have plenty. Also, VNDB exists.
People have gotten progressively more ADHD. Can barely get kids to play games let alone expect them to do 20-30 hours of reading. I can't even barely find the energy or tine to read a new one
The sort of people who created VNs mostly moved on to LNs.
I found Steins Gate to be thoroughly mediocre so if that was the peak of VNs then maybe they're better off dead.
>What needs to be done to fix it?
Make them point and click games.
>go from dead genre to genre that's been dead longer
>ryukushi is a hack
>nasu is a hack
>urobochi is a hack
>sca-di is a hack
>chiyomaru is a hack
>Why are VNs dying...? Hmmm, must be ADHD!
>everything I don't like is bad
>I don't like anything
Chiyomaru is not a hack though
He's the biggest hack there.
Why are there no truly bad VNs in the SciADV series then?
Tokyo Necro is getting translated.
We are getting back, bros.
Heard the Tsukhime remake was really good and easily better than the original which is not that hard to accomplish I guess because the original is from the early doujin days.
just wait for the upcoming new steins; installment
>It's like after Steins Gate in the late aughts everything has been on a downward trend, fewer releases, less original stories.
Wrong. And no, I'm NOT going to spoonfeed you. It's been more than a decade since Stein;Gate came out, and there are several good VNs that came out after it. Some of which are far better than Stein;Gate too
>Is the genre dying?
The Tsukihime remake JUST came out. Kara no Shoujo and Muv Luv the Day After both have sequels coming out.
>Muv Luv the Day After
>ever finishing
ahh shit you reminded me how I got fricking filtered by Kara No Shoju
got a bad ending first, obviously, then read a guide and noped out.
The progression seems extremely obtuse. Not only are there very janky investigations you have to do where you have to click at the correct square of obscured pixles, but side activities where you have to correctly sequence who you hang out with every single day without knowing who you are even going to meet. Couldn't even get Orihme's H scenes for fricks dake despite visiting her at the park nearly every goddam day.
Such a shame too, because I love the style of it. The austere school setting is great and since it's the 1950s there's a lack of your typical moe and chunni bullshit that often gets tiring in these VNs. Ill finish it someday but Im demoralized by how stringent the routing is.
>there are several good VNs that came out after it. Some of which are far better than Stein;Gate too
Name them then if you're so confident they're better.

Exclude it then.
VNs are niche in the west. Most of them are OC and rely on fans to get a translation.
>What needs to be done to fix it?
Western countries have very little interest in creative hobbies. They only care about AAA releases by big publishers.
You probably refuse to read anything written by a hobbyists yourself because it's lacking the multimillion dollar ad campaign.
>Is the genre dying?
Nah, people just don't want to read pretentious chunnishit and would rather buy comfy slice of life romance VN.
>What happened to Visual Novels?
Killed by gacha games.
>have to stop reading mid-scene
>come back to it later and load my game
>what was going on again?
>check log
>it only has the couple lines from this session
I have only read STEINS;GATE and I don't know what to read next. Biggest filter on trying something new is the artstyle.
waiting for sakura no toki
Steins Gate is atrocious. Generic Harem/cat girl nonsense masquerading as "scifi", with the author name-dropping IRL things just to sound educated. It's pathetic.
Any VNs that are worth reading? The genre seems completely oversaturated by anime trash. I can deal with anime art but not anime writing.
umineko
I get that feeling, Jap writing tends to have cool concepts but the execution is typically hit or miss
Fata Morgana
Higurashi
Saya no Uta
Kara no Shoujo
Corpse Party
It's been dying for a while.
>What needs to be done to fix it?
Buy more VNs.
S;Ggays are truly the Black folk of the VN genre, read something else you moronic homosexual
It's niche, SG was the outlier but you want another le hype, massive VN.
SG, DDLC and Danganronpa should be more than enough in terms of big "recent" VN.
