Burned several times by MTG games, never again. Then they went full pozzed ensuring I'll never think of anything they do ever again forever. Good riddance. You're a gaylord supreme if you're giving money to blizzard WOTC and I genuinely wish you a painful and slow death.

They can be fun while you're learning and in some singleplayer things. Moment you get into online ranked ladders it just turns into "metaslaving, the game". All of them. It gets boring.

Hearthstone was fun up until 2016ish, now it's dead. Runetera seemed cool but I never clicked with it, it's also dead. MTG has (or at least had) the best gameplay but the worst business model. It's been floundering recently. Yugioh is basically entirely free to play, but the gameplay is REALLY bad and is plagued by bad card design.

And finally Pokemon's switch to TCG Live has been shit. Client issues aside they got rid of theme ladder which was the only reason to open the old client. TCGs/CCGs peaked in 2016 when Hearthstone was still relevant, Magic had Modern take off as the most popular format, Pokemon had Shaymin in Standard, and before YGO got ran over by Zoodiacs.

      this is fairly accurate.

Old Gwent was incredible. I had 400 hours clocked within a year of playing the beta. Then they did their homecoming patch and it turned out to be a homewrecking instead.

Duelyst was alright and has been re-released under the Duelyst II name, but it's too swingy and you die fast with their draw 2 each round. Basically control is not very successful, everyone tries to burst you down.

The chapters were good card games, the found footage ARG was lame, the problem is that Act 1 was insanely good and set standards too high. A full Act 1 game that went all in on the theme and aesthetic would be a better game than what we got, even though what we got was still great.

Haven't played league of losers' card game yet, aren't they adding rootkit spyware to the game?
I played Hearthstone for a little bit because everyone did at college, but the amount of effort to farm for cards was too large, so I dropped it.
MTG Arena was a little better but not much better.
Yugioh was shockingly generous in giving out cards and melting down cards to get specific cards, and the resource-free nature of the game was interesting.
But ultimately, all games like this are scams meant to suck you dry, so I didn't stick with any of them.

      >Aren't they adding rootkit spyware?
That's Valorant's anticheat, and as far as I know that's only being added to League of Losers
      >All these games are scams
One of the big reasons Runeterra died was because it didn't make any money on account of being not just really F2P by card game standards, but one of the most f2p-friendly f2ps ever released outside of Path of Exile.
The game just SHITS cards at you. You get free weekly packs, those packs randomly become better packs with tokens for get-any-card-of-a-rarity-you-want, you have a free baseline progression pass that gives you shit, duplicates are insta-dusted for a very good rate, decks are 2-class in that game so cards go farther, etc.
You should play it, but not for the PVP, for the roguelite mode. Runeterra's single player mode is so fricking good

I've always thought that the way to do it would be to have the cards tied to your account, and let you print them for a shipping fee once. So physically the cards could still exist, but with the same scarcity as the digital game.
That would be pointless in a game like Marvel Snap though, since the entire game is built around random rolls too complex to be practical on an actual table top. And that's the only card game I'm playing ATM.

runeterra was really frickin good when I played it a year or two ago. I was floored at how nonisraeli/nonhearthstone it was and how even like basic prebaked decks had this aura of "LOOK HOW FRICKING GOOD YOU ARE, YOUVE BROKEN THIS GAME WIDE OPEN" that we never really saw in hearthstone due to some its gay early limitations and also those being paywalled anyway. MTG is 1000 years old and you will get fricking bullied by some queer who spent 400 dollars on a specific deck despite him only having like a year of experience, its miserable and theres too many rules to make it work cleanly in a digital system

Interesting concept, but they essentially function like Gachas, which of course are cancer of the highest order. The ones I liked the most are ones like the old magic games where you unlock new decks just playing the game.

but the economy totally ruins the game. even if you commit to paypigging, most online opponents play the cheap fast red decks to grind out their daily bonuses. and draft is too much like gambling.

Honestly how do people play physical card games? Do they just memorize every single card in the game? It seems like a pain in the ass to stop and read every effect to make sure your opponent isn't cheating you.

      Anonymous

Sometimes you do have to stop and read a card, but most staples and common decks basically get memorized by playing against them enough
However, you also can play way faster than a simulator because you and the opponent have trained in the social art of playing the game and can shortcut all over the place
