Are you moronic? Doom 2016's atmosphere is generic at best. The game isn't spooky. It's a power fantasy. If you want spooky Doom atmosphere, go play Doom 3.
What was at all gimmicky about it? Was a pretty by the books shooter as far as I can remember, and one of the last good/original ones in that style. At least where bigger releases are concerned.
