pussy.
the appeal is being told by redditers that you're playing a good game. all zelda games are boring.
Kys moron
Breath of the wild and links awakening are good.
The rest of the games are trash.
i played zelda links awakening, oos and ooa before I even had access to the internet so no
Full of game essence, unlike broad market appeal movie games
zelda is a very niche game that only appeals to obscure gamers
>Zelda isn't a broad market
Call me when thots start getting Truck Simulator or Dwarf Fortress tattoos lmao
Yes puzzles so difficult you need a game guide to solve them. Extremely riveting gameplay lol
They're just simple fantasy games with good music, not all of them are winners but there are a lot of good fun titles
This, Zelda is set on a medieval fantasy setting, with focus on puzzles and problem solving instead of just combat, which makes it kid/woman friendly. Soulful music and art, and it's fun to watch your friends play.
There was never a Nintendo Zelda game where I wasn't satisfied by the end. It's a good change of pace from all of the ubishit and snoyhomosexualry.
One thing I really like about the setting is how it's a mix of Japanese and western settings. A lot of animism and shinto influences as well as many other world cultures.
what's also nice is that it always maintains the fairytale feeling even when it dips into heroic pulp fantasy like OOT and TP
Sex with Veran
Veran's an old hag
Din is where it's at
>wants to have sex with a turtle/spider
Dickless coward. Small-minded fool.
She's a shapeshifter Anon, think!
It is an okaish game. Aimed mostly for kids like every nintendo exclusive.
puzzles are mid
Zelda is challenging and Im tired of people pretending theyre not
skill issue
>boss called nignogger
how did they get away with this?
EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE...EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
>Zelda is challenging
brainlet
>mid
It's hard enough at times to make you stop and play intentionally. A boss might kill you once because you're being a spaz but he won't get you twice.
And the puzzles are the same thing. They're not difficult by any means, but they're the kind of puzzle where you regularly need to say "ok I' better actually think about this", and then you get it instantly.
Basically I'm saying they nailed it.
Most games you can play on total autopilot. Zelda isn't trying to be grueling or a mensa exercise, but it wants you to give a shit.
But they stopped doing this entirely from about Wind Waker on and that's been a consistant disappointment.
it's a game
it has success states and failure states
They have soul, plus cool item variety, good gameplay, decent puzzles, and kino music. This is why LttP and OoT are literally the 2 best games ever made.
They control well, look nice, have great music, and are generally well designed. They're quality games.
Boy with a sword, out in a medieval fantasy world.
They touch upon subtle patterns of deep truth and beauty
Well-designed worlds, characters, puzzles, action, etc. Just very well put together games that have the whole package. Also, they're extremely consistent in quality. Even the games Ganker likes to shit all over are at worst solid games
The appeal of the old games and BotW is exploration.
The appeal of the Aonuma games is "lore" and cinematics.
The appeal of botw is walking and recycled yahahas the exploration blows ass.
I like the characters and stories the most.
The dungeons are fun too.
Sense of adventure, fun games in general.
Specific games loke OoT, MM, LA or BoTW have a lot to offer. Currently playing OoT, and the level desgin, atmsphere and pacing are fantastic. The combat is great too, and it's a fun challenge in a 3 heart run. Easily one of the best games of all time.
it's a game about discovery, unlocking more parts of the map as you gain the tools to do so and slowly mastering the world, which makes it very satisfying.
Most Zeldas are like this, the ones that people like less are the more linear ones because they lack the feeling of discovery/exploration and BotW is in a weird place because it has exploration in spades but being open world it's hard to 'gate' shit behind (for example) a hookshot or something which I personally enjoy but oh well
Quintessential fairy tale/adventure kino.
It was the Skyrim of it's day. At least, for people who didn't have computers. The appeal was that it was an NES launch title, and children (who now post on Ganker as adults) didn't have any alternative.
The ones people praise the most generally focus on creating a strong sense of adventure within a world that is divorced quite far from reality, but always fairly self-consistent, letting you get the sense that you've learned the world and its rules and so can maneuver it more easily. Some of them are just "video game-isms" like what health and money are, other things feel like you're genuinely becoming savvy about the fictional world.
Even the ones that fail at some portion of this or another tend to have enough redeeming qualities to be worth some of your time, because another major appeal is that Zelda is a competent series. I don't think it can make the "no bad games, at worst mediocre ones" claim like Kirby, but it's damn close.
its a great intro series to adventure games
Most of them are good games
Except links awakening and skyward sword
The best parts about zelda are unironically the overworld segments and how comfy they are. The dungeons are just filler between unlocking new portions of the overworld. Ironically, botw, which is just an overworld simulator, turned out pretty awful.
It turns out handing you a huge chunk of the world without any hard gates, only time/effort gates, makes it all feel a lot less special.
There's no gates at all. Any good player can beat ganon right at the start with minimal effort. Even if they're not very good they can still brute force it with minimal effort. It undermines the whole thing and makes it all feel pointless and hollow. They had something there at the very start with the plateau, but what a waste.
The dungeons in OoT are comfy.
Playing through water temple in the dead of night on my CRT was comfy.
Forest Temple is still GOAT
The dungeons and overworld compliment each other in every Zelda game, especially when they have a stronger narrative purpose like in OoT and aren't just there to gate items. But if you get too much of one or the other it starts falling apart like SS or BotW.
Yeah, that's definitely a bit closer to the truth. I prefer the overworld, but wouldn't be the same without the dungeons
twilight princess dungeons are my favorite in terms of atmosphere, but I feel like N64 zeldas just have a cool vibe in general
I get this feeling. It might be because the overworld portions feel less obviously "gamey" than the dungeons and you feel more engaged interacting with the world.
I've played every major Zelda game and they're all piss easy and their "lore" is boring, the music (which fans also hype a lot) is mid compared to almost any other Nintendo IP. The only ones I've managed to finish without dropping out of boredom are BotW (maybe due to novelty hype) and the Link's Awakening remake (because of how short it is).
>could finish the LA remake but not the original
you must be 18 to post here
LA was never considered mainline or canon though.
you must have triple digit IQ to post here
LA was a fan favorite for years like LttP. The hipster choices while normies picked OoT. Now the hipster picks are the Oracle games.
>be 7, like zelda
>brother's friend leaves oracle of seasons at our house, they let me keep it
>didn't even know there were gameboy zelda games aside from minish cap
>game felt mysterious and interesting because I had no idea what the helI was doing, wander around and find a lot of secrets/weird areas
>eventually learn about oracle of ages and linked games, explaining the empty caves and stuff in seasons
>play both games to death until I get all 64 rings
Even if they're the hipster choice now, the Oracles will always be my favorite 2D Zeldas. Seasons' minimalist vibe gave me such a strange feeling as a child, and I don't think it would have been so interesting to me at any other age.
Seasons shows signs of Capcoms original plan, which was to remake the original zelda, which is pretty evident in some of the bosses. Hence why certain minimalism aspects remain in the game
It was never the plan to make a remake, remember that capcom involvement on this project started because Okamoto started to play zelda with his kids and become a fan. It was mid90s and Okamoto was a rockstar so no one will say no to him. His original idea was do a 3 part game, the whole oracle concept was done by him and it wasn't until Miyamoto got involved that he suggested that Farore chapter should be dropped in order to make the game development go further. There is accounted that Okamoto thought that "Do a zelda game was more easy than a fighting game"
The original plan was to make multiple gameboy Zelda games, starting with a remake or two then some original titles. After a bit they said "frick it" and skipped making the remakes, instead turning them into a 3 part game, which eventually became 2 parts.

You know what I always find weird about Zelda? Its focus on puzzles. You build a whole fantasy world, and landscape, and have a narrative, and all these these things... And like, one of the most iconic Zelda things is pushing a block. A large chunk of Zelda is Sokoban.
the 2d ones have puzzles and are challenging, (for a child) yes.
Has there ever truly been good 2D Zelda clones worthy of even mentioning?
Alundra?
Beyond Oasis, but that's more like a top down beat-em-up.
Alundra was kino. It felt like a natural evolution of ALTTP and by dropping the family friendly elements from the Zelda/Landstalker it achieved a deeper level of maturity. A shame the sequel was garbage and the series is dead.
I enjoyed Hyper Light Drifter and Hob. They both feel like they're missing something, but for indies they're pretty good.
It's the only fantasy series that appeals to my sense of art style. I hate how every other fantasy game on the market is dark and gritty. I can't stand games that look like Elder Scrolls and I consider Twilight Princess to be the worst looking Zelda. Something like Genshin impact would be okay if the characters didn't have the most generic anime look.
Same. As much as I love fantasy as a genre, I often have a hard time really getting into fantasy games. They're either try too hard to be "mature" and edgy, try too hard to be funny, or both. It's all warmed-over DnD derivatives. Zelda feels more like what fantasy should be: a fairy tale for adults, full of adventure and wonder
TP is darker but it still is very much on the same vein as OoT / MM
It was one of the first games where people got to manually swing a sword and shoot a bow. Like the way people are crazy for dark souls because the combat is active and challenging? It was like that. Hell the early ones were basically DaS with puzzles.
They've been surpassed but back in the day they set the bar
The world is great, the dungeons are well designed and interesting, the waifus are top tier, the music is amazing, the story is pretty good, the puzzles can really frick with you or be down right brutal at worst, Zelda 2 filtered generations with it's difficulty, Zelda has a lot going for it at least it used to anyway
it has enough brightness to be hopeful and refreshing but enough darkness that it's interesting
the most obvious example is in Ocarina of Time, how the game feels like a big, almost carefree adventure as child Link, but gets darker when you're an adult, and there's things like the well and Shadow Temple
Oracle remakes in the style of links awakening when?
the appeal of zelda is that the protagonist is a cute boy
young link is canonically a chubby 3 foot tall elf
i hate brown and black people so fricking much
Presentation and accessibility. Zelda games are rarely the deepest in their genre but they consistently rank among the most polished. Newcomers can jump in on most any entry and figure their way out, and the number of environmental interactions these games have pursued over the years has always been at least respectful and functional, even before BotW shot that particular quality into the stratosphere. With perhaps the exception of the NES Zeldas and maybe Oracle of Ages, these games have never really been the most challenging, but that's completely aside the point of their charms. Simply put, they're very easy games to like.
It's an rpg with all the ugly fat trimmed off. no parties, no stats, no numbers. Just hitting things with a sword, talking to villagers and solving square peg hole tier puzzles.
it's very well rounded, it has the combat, the puzzles, the fantasy setting.
I've only played Minish Cap all the way through, but it's very good. Decent puzzles, good amount of secrets/collectibles but most are optional if you get sick of them, a gimmick that's actually well thought out both in terms of puzzles and art style (all the little details in the miniature world are great), smooth combat.
Kiddie first exposure to puzzle-adventure type of games. Very easy even 8years old find them enjoyable, if you are over the age of 16 consider rethinking your life choices.
That's weird. There's alot of people kind of shitting on botw.
What gives usually that game gets 10x more praise?
Tears Of Kingdom got announced and now Genshit chinks are seething.
Challenging for a kid i guess? Better than gacha shit on the phone
You are guaranteed a great fantasy adventure.
The combat in the 3D games is nothing to write home about but it’s solid. The dungeons are great for the most part and fun to solve.
But my favourite part of it is exploring the world and finding secrets/power ups. I love the feeling of getting a new time and thinking back of all the areas I might be about to use it
>What is the appeal of Zelda?
Adventure.
>good puzzles
not really.
>is it challenging
not really.
These guys get it. Failing to capture this feeling also why some Zelda games aren't great.
Although I think Zelda 1 and Zelda 2 have pretty good combat too, and the right amount of bullshit to make the games feel mysterious.
I think it's great that you can use keys in multiple dungeons, for example. It adds the potential for stupid backtracking and perhaps even softlocks, but it gives you so much freedom that its worth it, and the player always knows when they are taking a risk and they can also mitigate the problems by buying keys from merchants.
I wish the series would have gone down the Zelda 1 route, rather than the Zelda 3 route, although Zelda 3 is still slightly better than the strict "do the dungeons exactly as we tell you to" of the later games.
so ive been emulating gamecube games lately with no problems but i cant find any TP rom that runs smoothly. is this an issue with the quality of the rom or my pc? where can i find a good TP rom?
Checked vimm? Most of the stuff there runs well for me.
totally forgot about that place. thanks anon ill try it.
damn sub 30 fps. oh well looks like ill give nintendo $60 when they port it like a good goy.
It's hard to explain, you get a very soulful satisfying feeling playing the game. (can't say the same for BotW, but it invokes similar feelings for some people I'd think)
The Black folk are hot
They're sandies
comfy
baby's first adventure game
the puzzles aren't good and the games aren't challenging, but they are fairly comfy
They tend to be a nice complete package.
Games throw many items at you that interact with the world which makes you experiment with shit all the time and keeps you involved.
They tend to be decently balanced pacing wise too giving you cities and villages to hang out in between dungeon crawls.
The puzzles are good. The dungeons are great. They often have really interesting gimmicks and often require thinking about actual 3D space, something that seems to be completely missing in modern games where you dont have to think past the room you are currently in.
Just very nice games.

Will they ever make a Zelda JRPG?
Yeah Zelda 2
Zelda is the quintessential adventure game series
Puzzles range from easy to kinda confusing
They're not challenging games for the most part, but they're fun. Maybe Zelda 2 and BotW have some difficulty at times.
This is harder than you remember. Not brutally difficult or anything, just that retrospectively, following Zeldas make you mis-remember this game as being toddler difficulty when it's not.
dark world damage values with no tunic upgrades is quite painful
ALBW is pretty much as hard, but it takes a lot more shit.
