What is with their fascination with telling stories about Gollum? First the video game, now this. He is not that interesting of a character. He's a hobbit who was corrupted by the ring and became an ugly monster. Big whoop.
The only reason he's notable is because Andy Serkis does such a good job as him. But that's true of every Andy Serkis role so that's hardly a justification to make this. Give me Tintin 2.

They should push AI, CGI, and motion capture to its absolute limits and make the 60s Lord of the Rings movie with the Beatles starring. John Lennon was to play Gollum (Paul was Frodo, Ringo was Sam, George was Gandalf)

It's not supposed to be a Gollum biopic. It's about Gandalf's and Aragorn's search for Gollum before the events of LotR, when they're trying to figure out whether Bilbo's ring is in fact Sauron's wiener ring.

Well that's a weird situation because they can probably still have Sir Ian as Gandalf because he's playing an old man no matter what, but they're definitely going to have to recast Aragorn, Viggo has aged far too much to play what would be a younger version of Aragorn. I wonder if they're gonna just go ahead and recast both.

frick no, Sir Ian maybe as a voice actor, but that guy still acting a role like that? He's going to be decrepit at this point, he was already too slow in The Hobbit and fell asleep on set.

But they do a movie that gives Cruella de Vil a new backstory and suddenly everyone is like "But how do you square this with her skinning puppies in the original 101 Dalmations???" as if it's a direct sequel. It's not a fricking retcon you idiot, it's a new story with a new take on the character. They're allowed to do that. And I fricking hate that I have to defend Disney on this because I do not like their modern movies at all but this is absolutely the dumbest fricking thing you can possibly criticize about them.

Everything you just wrote is why Hollywood is shitting the bed. And in case you're too stupid to understand what you wrote, I'll simplify it for you
        >new movie using renowned character
        >renowned character behaves nothing like renowned character
        >doesn't even have a character event instory to set them on path to become renowned character
        >instead it's a completely new character with renowned character's name and skin stretched over it
It's insulting, abhorrent, lazy, disingenuous, duplicitous and all around scummy. And the fact that shills and Hollywood refuse to own up to their mistakes but instead doudbles down on it is why people are starting to hate not just Hollywood but israelites too. It confirms a bias that israelites are trying to subvert US citizens with woke shit. Whether that's true or not depends on your PoV and whatever actual evidence you have to confirm/deny it. Every time a new "woke" movie comes out, gets marketed to heaven and back only to flop while the studio tries to brow beat normal people into seeing it gives neonazis all the ammo they need.

Want to really stop the rising anti-semitism? Stop giving them the ammo they need.

Amazon bought the rights to the silmarillions blurb or a chapter heading or something

        Anonymous

        Simple answer
        - Amazon owns the TV rights to LOTR + The Hobbit
        - WB own the MOVIE rights to LOTR + The Hobbit

It gets a bit more complicated in that WB don't actually own the rights, they lease them from another company so it isn't in their hands permanently. Also, Amazon work with the Tolkien Estate (who hold the rights to all the rest of Tolkien's books) and so can in theory introduce anything from Tolkien's other works in their show.
This isn't possible for WB because the Tolkien Estate absolutely hate the company.

This is just straight up wrong. Amazon doesn't own any LoTR rights, they straight up are forbidden from mentioning anything from the 3rd age, and they can't "take whatever they want" from the rest of Tolkiens work, they are allowed to use what little theyve licensed, and only with guarantee that what they are using won't be fundamentally changed from how it was written. They are allowed to make shit up so long as it doesn't directly contradict anything already written, hence why RoP is so shitty, none of it is actually based in Tolkiens work.

For everyone b***hing about the title, the section in Unfinished Tales telling this story is called The Hunt for the Ring, which I'm guessing is where they got the seed, but trying to call it Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for the Ring sounds stupid, what with "ring" being in there twice. Now I'm not defending this title, it still sounds kind of dumb, but maybe that's where it came from. And to be clear this is a story that absolutely doesn't need to get told and is going to be 95% fanfiction, just like RoP.
