Icewind dale felt really empty after bg1. It's mostly just baldurs gate without the effort of making the world feel alive with cool things

it's shit. I don't care if the writing or combat are good. overhead is terrible for anything that isn't moba or arpg.

IWD is fun enough for a couple playthroughs if you like DND or more specifically the infinity engine games. But the lack of memorable characters and generic story makes it feel shallow. BG1&2 on the other hand have many memorable character and solid writing in general. But I can't replay those games anymore. I've played the BG games so many times. You'd think IWD would be easier to revisit, since the emphasis on combat and party composition 'should' lead to a more replayable sandbox scenario. But the lack of depth to the world leaves it feeling barren by comparison.

Overrated games and it took 30 years for morons to start noticing it.

Icewind Dale is too combat heavy and if you haven't played baldur's gate or aren't crusty enough to have played AD&D you're going to be googling a lot of stuff or completely lost. I got filtered by that game in the 3rd area or so. Baldur's Gate 1 is very fun and quaint low key adventuring. Story and characters aren't deep but the dialogue choices are enough to role play. Baldur's gate 2 is pretty incredible and when I played it for the first time last year I was really surprised by how many modern design conventions it has. Just as an example it has dungeons with skyrim-like loops back to the beginning. The itemization is great, the characters are great, the main quest is better than BG1. I only got into CRPGs in the past few years and I love them. This opinion is 0% nostalgia. I didn't have a PC when any of these games came out.

Loved them as a kid, but as an adult I see nothing but problems that ultimately just slow down the game. Because Infinity Engine games are legitimately just bad games. The storylines are incredibly mediocre at best relative to 90s standards, and by today's standards absolute fanfiction drivel, and the story is considered one of its better draws for Baldur's Gate/Planescape. The puzzles, traps, and exploration amounted to text choices and turning on trap detection. And worst of all, the gameplay and combat is not engaging or interesting in the slightest. Infinity Engine's only claim to any fame is the engine allows the greatest freedom of strategy seen in any game outside of a roguelike to date, but ultimately this is what causes its greatest weakness. The game only ever presents any sort of interesting gameplay choices when you play it fairly, and any other scenario, you have 20,000 ways to absolutely mog/destroy everything around you and therefore removes the interesting gameplay choices from your hand to turn you into a cheesy ruleslawyer.

Name literally one (1) WRPG that's actually a trilogy and has your character porting from one game to another while the storyline actually keeps up with the gameplay powerlevel progress.
It literally hasn't been done since. You can't call a completely one of a kind story concept mediocre.

When multiple other games that tried it had to resort to absolute copouts like "lol shepard died in a cutscene that's why your skill tree is reset"?
          Yeah, it's pretty fricking good.

            >Other games tried it and did it WAY worse. That must mean that this sub-par/mediocre implementation is good!
Establish why it's good first on its own merit.

NTA but it's good because it's peak power fantasy, you go from being hunted by random ass thugs to demigods shitting themselves when you come for them and it doesn't feel forced or self-congratulatory because you're through this journey every step of the way, no one sucks you dick just because.
But sure, BG's not high art or anything, Planescape Torment is a conventionally well written story with great characters though.

I was going to post, but

        >its unique so its good

put it more succinctly. You need to establish this as a good thing to begin with.

      No they didn't lol.
      >And worst of all, the gameplay and combat is not engaging or interesting in the slightest
BG2 combat is fun as frick what the frick are you talking about? Did you play on easy or something?

        >I recently replayed some IE games and I have no fricking idea what you're on about.
That's probably because you have a two digit IQ and were entertained by IE games. They're brain-dead moronic and break with any amount of applied pressure, making their "challenge" nil.

And yes, Planescape's story is exceptionally medicore, but it uses lots of words and asks moronic pretentious questions, so that MUST mean it's good, right?

Honest question: Who would bother even shitposting this game these days? It's not even on anyone's radar outside of people content with mediocrity (you) and nostalgiagays with an objective analysis (me). No, it's just simply a pretentious story on top of a bad engine. I had a blast with it as a kid, but as an adult, I can see the flaws in it. It's just healthy to look at it with a more objective mind.

You because you're probably a mentally ill schizo who tries to make other people angry for no reason. There's another moron who used to make daily morrowind hate threads, there are legitimately insane people on this board.
You cannot form a single proper criticism you had to resort to "too much words xD" so I'm not giving you benefit of a doubt, I wasted too much time on you already., eat a dick.

You didn't ask for any or tried to have any kind of conversation. You just kneejerked into this hyperdefensive posture based on assumptions. You are unwell and should seek medical attention, honestly.

AD&D combat is shit and its only saving grace its being easy and fast with just simple calculus, which its pointless in a computer game.

That they aren't similar. IWD is low level and a linear dungeon crawl, worst of both worlds. BG1 is low level but at least has a decent amount of freedom and exploration on the first playthrough. BG2 actually has depth and choice.

Been replaying BG games recently. Whil BG1 is clunky as hell though imo it always was I think BG2 aged exceedingly well, the pre-rendered maps still look awesome, the combat is fast, visceral and fun as frick, the classic fantasy atmosphere is charming.

so as you can guess planescape is my favourite and icewind dale is my least favourite.

It's my favorite of its kind. I enjoy the gameplay more than role-playing. I always made my own team in baldurs gate anyways so its nice their was a game that focused on having a custom party

    For me it's
    BG2>PS:T>IWD2>BG>IWD
and IWD is still miles ahead of any modern take on the CRPGs like larian does with bg3.
Pathfinder is decent but does not reach the heights of bg2
