It was never good, just insanely overhyped.
People never learn with these kinds of games.

What happened was the incredibly grindy base building killed progression, and my desire to play. The first 20 hours were great. But no more Palworld for me.

There is no gameplay loop. Its a more of a gameplay road. Once you get your high level pals theres nothing to do with them and you quit. Which pokemon also suffers from.

Here's how I see it. The game has three main pillars, being creature collection, base building, and exploration. In simple terms, These three flow into each other. Getting pals gives your bases a workforce and makes exploring easier. Bases give you upgrades to obtain stronger pals and explore better. And going out in the world is the best way to get pals and level up for better base upgrades.

For this to work, these three pillars each need to be strong because they are tied, and at first, they are, but the cracks in them become more and more apparent as you play. The base stuff becomes more of a chore, the exploration becomes more boring, and then even the creature collection starts to feel mundane.

So all three pillars get shit. That's a pretty big problem with the game then.

Yes, and I feel that's the big reason for the drop-off; the mid to late game just isn't fun.

          Something else to note.

89.5% of players caught one pal
          78.5% caught 10
          73..6% caught 20
          57.8% caught 50
          34.6% caught 90

I forgot to post the rest.

              68.3% beat the first tower.
              31.0% beat the second tower.
              17.8% beat the third tower.
              13.9% beat the fourth tower.
              9.9% beat the fifth tower.

There aren't any achievements associated with Base milestones, and I wish there were more in general to get a better idea of what content the players are engaging with.

survival crafting games die in a month or less unless they are constantly injected with new content which none of them ever seem to do, minecraft was just like warcraft, the lucky one of the genre to grab the biggest fanbase and all the money

I always consider these games as a backscratcher. You get the itch, play it for awhile then don't bother for some time.
Like playing factorio, I get tired of acting like a slave miner or an autist. Or The Forest where I just end up becoming a cannibal.

Minecraft was more like Lego. Besides the survival you could create stuff.
Most survival crafting games you can only make military bases.

It's most probably more in hibernation rather than dead.
The first "big" update wasn't that much and yet it managed to bring the game to the 1 million player count several months after release and after the game plateaud on 30k, and something tells me the summer update will do the same.
Or so i hope because i just want to see these schizophrenic thread wars with tendies again

There is absolutely nothing enticing about crafting, and base building is the epitome of something sounding neat on paper, but in practice being an absolute chore.
They had a success formula on their hands, too.
Just take out all of the fricking survival elements out, and make it a "Pokemon with guns" like the journos called it. Make it a hub-world based game with a series of missions and boss fights.
    Done. Saved.

The same kind of explosive internet FotM hype that killed games like Valheim.
The devs were not prepared for the absurd popularity the game would achieve and as the inexperienced amateurs that they are were in no way prepared or able to throw fuel on the fire fast enough.
When everyone has had a taste of the game and when there is no serious amount of new content coming to keep it relevant people will quickly forget about the game and move on to the next overhyped thing.

      >able to throw fuel on the fire fast enough.
lmao it's not like the game would be salvaged with adding more or better content, when the core gameplay systems are just not appealing to most people.
This uses a survival crafting gameplay loop that is typical for sub 1 million Steam esales early access games, yet it somehow got in the 10+ million copies sold realm. There is not a market among 10+ million titles for that gameplay.

What do you even do in a modern pokemon game?
I remember when I was a kid, i would run through the campaign and catch a few pokemon but rarely switch out my active party. Afterwards i would stick around and catching some more pokemon until i am forced to trade pokemon with others, then i stop playing.
Do people really engage in this IV breeding stuff just to have a slightly better pokemon? Is Pokemon PVP battles really that good and engaging? How did Pokemon beat Digimon in terms of popularity
