FFT is basically a far weaker tactics ogre in every aspect and was mostly developed by the same guys as an entry game with a linear story for a new / young generation of players.

The thing with the Granida HD at least is that the sprites are literally just filtered sprites that replace the originals as a mod. In Grandia HD you can literally just delete the files for the new sprites and have the old sprites.

Not him. The Reborn UI is objectively worse, because it's on a 16:9 TV screen instead of a fricking 5 inch handheld display. It is conveying the exact same amount of information but taking up more space. Look at the bottom of both screens, where the list of units is. In LUCT, the units bottom is cut off until they're selected, where they're moved slightly further up. They are never fully on the screen. In Reborn, the ENTIRE unit is always fully visible, but they have a fricking shadow gradient over it to vaguely obfuscate the lower half of the units, while taking up a much larger amount of screen space comparatively. It doesn't even serve any purpose other then to frame the attack bar, which has ALSO been massively increased in size and shape to accommodate for a 16:9 display.
                The UI is bad.

You'd think Square Enix would learn by now that the abusive partner style marketing is counterproductive unless your goal is twitter/reddit updoots rather than actual sales. But it's the same environment that produced Forespoken trailers with zero self-awareness, and all of the ethics committee nonsense.

There's no real reason to *buy* this 25 year old game, and *day one* at that, without further details. That's not a player-centric proposal, that's a marketing shill centric proposal. Shrieking like a harpy at anyone not buying the "hype" for a company prostituting for underserved money a dead IP it has no real intentions to bring back, and a company unable to tell stories that explore human nature (hell, now acknowledging differences between men and women is a herculean effort already) won't make that magically go away.

If this is a genuine question: no, Reborn fixed the two main issues with LuCT, characters now level individually and the crafting isn't cancer anymore, there's a reason why the shitposters only have visuals to rip on, the gameplay is legitimately better

Good I was scared they didn't do any gameplay enhancements because the game has serious issues which is why people still can't answer whether PSP or SNES is the way to go. I also didn't like One Vision because that just made everyone weak and Clerics into tanks that extend each encounter into being 3x as long.

As good as One Vision is at improving some of the issues base LuCT has the fact there was no way to fix the leveling system and the modder adding even more character exclusive classes you needed to grind from level 1 made it a pain sometimes

      >always use shitty unfitting fonts
      >changes for "accessibility" boil down to a fast forward button
      >sometimes censored too for "modern sensibilities"
If you gave a single shit about these games you'd have already played them on native hardware or emulated them with shaders that look 100x better than these "remasters". But no, the lowest common denominator either is too stupid to emulate, too stubborn to pirate, or too poor or moronic to just play natively (either because they didn't keep their games or refuse to make an investment to own said game or softmod a console).

      >standards
I don't much guve a shit about the sprites when the portraits look just as good and the gameplay seems a 100 times better

People will somehow defend this and say it looks good. I was baffled when people praised the truly awful looking Saga ports, Grandia and the Trials port (even if that last one is "better").
These same people will see nothing wrong with the FF pixel demasters or playing the steam versions of the PS1 games.

It's not fricking hard to learn Retroarch, download your desired game from CDromance, and use the CRTroyale shader at 4k. It looks a million times better and it's free. Plus you have the option of undubs, retranslations, rebalance/fix patches, and various things like fast forward still and saves.

again, there was a patch, class, weapon and skill balencing/ grinding are the main issues with the game, only brainlets bring up crafting as it's a minor inconvenience -- just save and reload moron, you don't need to craft much anyway.

The class system was great, endgame classes are overpowered and are meant to be used on newgame+/the world unless you are autistic enough to grind them.

Tactics ogre is kuso as an SRPG on famicom and PSP, the patch helps a lot, will this remake be better than the patch? I doubt it.

And not everyone likes spending dozens of hours of K-MMO-tier grinding. For the record, FFT doesn't make you do this shit either, save for maybe like two jobs. You can easily plan out a party progression route that you can finalize in like 30-40 hours. Meanwhile, FFT: LUCT forces tedious like beast recruitment level resets and having to grind up late game jobs from scratch.

and some people do, and this is the long term gameplay loop the game offers. I don't like grinding either, but i'm also not autistic and feel I need to play as all my favourite characters, maybe if the games classes were better balanced I'd be more incentivized to grind. It's entirety optional, TO and LUCT has severe gameplay issues, it's a bit of a joke as an SRPG, but again, the class leveling is totally fine, it shows an attempt at good game design, you are conflating it with skill grinding.

I never once said anything bad about reborn, I don't know if it's better or worse than the PSP patch ( do you even know what this is?) but I doubt it could be worse than LUCT or the snes original which are embarressingly bad SRPGs with potential, the appeal is the story, visuals and in LUCT prose.

I called out the morons parroting the same nonsense over what the big issues with LUCT were, ( muh class level muh crafting Black person you are playing a game where the majority of shit is hardly even functional or overpowered as hell)

The fact everyone but (you) hate the moronic class levels system is proof enough of how bad it was, you can keep being a little contrarian b***h all you want it doesn't make it any less true, when a mechanic in a videogame actively makes the game moee tedious/unfun it is a bad mechanic

Why do you keep making these fallacious arguments? you are appealing to an imaginary majority, back when TO was relevant and the posters weren't entirely underage zoomers we had some coherent discussions about the game design, of course there were always NPCs like yourself distracting from this by crying about the same nothingburgers over and over again.

You are simply wrong, you don't understand tactics ogre, your don't understand basic SRPG game design, i've explained the intent to you, i've told you the target demographic, i've outlined the gameplay implications of making them useable from recruitment but you just keep being an autistic homosexual who just really wants to use Ozma and wants to use here right away.

The class system is barely relevant but you can atleast see an attempt at game design in the implementation, which makes it all the worse when homosexuals cry about it. Do you have any idea how fricking abysmally designed most of this game is?

Bows and double attack being OP ( or really everything else being weak as shit) has nothing to do with class leveling. The skill system is busted and OP shit like bows and crossbows snowball because they can naturally attack more often which grinds the skill levels faster, on top of the range and skills being busted in the firstplace.

Never give any female most of your time regardless of your relationship, even if and especially if she is your mother.
Always know when to push them away for some times with other people.

what's the difference between Tactics Ogre and Ogre Battle?

      Anonymous

ogre battle's like a RTS/RPG hybrid where you move groups of units on a map, instead of moving them individually on a grid like in tactics RPGs

      Anonymous

They are completely different games in every way. Ogre Battle is an army macromanagement simulator where you put together squads of soldiers and then direct them in real-time on country-scale maps. When one of your squads runs into an enemy squad they auto-battle based on general orders you gave them ahead of time and the composition of the squad.

I'm not too bothered by the visuals, it doesn't look that bad in my opinion and the gameplay and system updates definitely sweeten the deal for me but its easy to see why the visuals are a dealbreaker for some, I wouldn't begrudge someone for not buying it for that reason. Smoothening filters have burned people hard in the past. Money definetly should've been put into a proper visual update over adding voice acting back in. I really doubt we'll get a sequel out of this as well if we didn't get one after the PSP remake so I don't really care if this sells well, some of you are trying too hard to sell the game to people that just aren't going to budge.

Except I'm tired of seeing SHILL SHILL SHILL repeated ad nauseum. I trust enough in Matsuno's vision and the returning devs and the feedback that was already given. I guess I'm just getting too old for homosexual behavior.

Why is it not okay to have higher standards for these remastered games? Censorship is a real issue and them not putting enough care into the graphical fidelity sucks.
A remaster like this should come with no compromises if you expect people to spend money on an old game. People only spout shill because most of us are sick of people eating up terrible rereleases because it just means companies won't put more effort into making them better.

People should have dogpiled HARDER on the awful FF pixel remasters, yet morons are still buying them anyway. If anything we should be spoonfeeding people the roms/isos of these games all pre-setup for the pc illiterate tards. Sends a message and gets less people spending money on garbage. If autistic Sonic fans can spoonfeed fan remasters that are way better than their official Origins release (that got shat on a lot even though the FF remasters are worse for example), then why isn't there the same standard for RPG fans who are supposedly dedicated autistic nerds too?

Because I know how the world works and how budgeting constraints work. The fully voiced cast was something that was decided because it will probably sell well (at least in Japan seeing the quality of their voice actors) and they probably decided not to develop new sprites because of that. The gameplay changes are looking great though - it looks like a greatest hits version of the SNES and PSP version.

Making the sprites look worse COST them money though. It would've legitimately looked better if they just kept them as they were. But they didn't. It's not a problem of budget, it's a problem of marketing suits thinking these games need x amount of pixels to sell in 2022. It's literally just squeenix being deranged as usual.

    Shitposters are clearly schizophrenic younglings

Tactics Ogre is one of the few Japanese video games in existence whose story can be compared to a quality light novel. If you like stories and detailed plots, vidya is not where to find this, nevertheless, TO is a shining exception.

    Gameplay is top notch.
Music is the absolute GOAT if you do not agree that is okay for you have bad musical taste
Female characters are hot and fleshed out characters
    The best supporting characters
Proto roguelike dungeon 20 years before it became a thing
    Multiple endings
Way too many story branching points to summarize
    Post game content (CODA)

And you stupid, tastless motherfrickers dare turn a game down because of a graphical filter?

In all honesty, it is great that some of you humongous pigs feel like that.

I've already played and loved this game twice. The reason I'm mad about this filter is that it makes this version not just a straight upgrade. It looks awful. If I were to replay it, or even worse, recommend it to someone, which version do I go with?

I agree, it could look better.

If all these things are true, then why not just play the original or psp version?
It sounds like it's already perfect so there's no need for a remaster, correct?

I already did. I will support the creators of this game since it is a quality game and I want to see the next episode.

Also, gameplay wise this is THE version to play

        >if you don't accept us fricking up the visuals of a classic game then you don't deserve fun. Just stop having standards okay?

        >it is not obvious to him that budget was not enough for a complete graphics overhaul

      All versions are serviceable, gameplay-wise.
The fact battles drag on is inherent to strategy RPGs.

The original Super Famicom version was Japan-only, and is one hell of a technical achievement on its original hardware.
The Saturn port added Japanese voice acting exclusive to it.
The PSX port added loading times, and an English localization that's good but to the point.
The SNES version got a fan translation that was just the English text ported back, but some stats were hidden in the process.

A GBA side-game called "The Knights of Lodis" set in the same universe tied some of the loose threads of the original.

Then, an actual remaster happened, and that was the PSP version.
This remaster reworked the English localization (an average dub, and a more researched but bloated translation that doesn't help the game's length), added some QoL changes but also made the new recruits start from Lv. 1 (some will whine this is wasting their precious time, but it's hardly unique. Valkyrie's Profile "Hard" mode does the same and it ends up the easier way to experience the game because you have more control over character/party stats). There are some slowdown issues, but none that couldn't be fixed with emulation. It doesn't hold back with the translation, which is a good thing because it's inspired by the Yugoslavian war.

Most importantly, added more story content. Like some of the character endings, and story endings, while bittersweet have very grim implications, and so some extra scenes and quests were added to help that, or accentuate that (more lore).

The PSP version, as well, is a good way to play the game.

Then, there's this "remaster" shills want you so badly to buy.
It's an easier direct HD port of the PSP version with uglier upscaling and art direction.
The original game has instances of abuse, torture, rape, comments about women, child homicide, and other joyful things that Square recently shown time and time again they're unable to leave alone.

I love how you just completely forget to talk about how much improvements this remaster has. Honestly trying to sell people the idea that QoL improvements, such as being able to craft several items at the same time, or removing levels so that your new recruits just don't suck dick and overall the drastic reduction of the mindless overall grind the game had, are bad because "muh shills" is really a moronation level only the absolute wastes of oxygen from Ganker can come up with.

        >made the new recruits start from Lv. 1
False, all classes share the same class level. If you wanted, you can just change Ozma out of Knight Commander and make her into a Lv 20 Archer because you already trained one at that point.

        >Valkyrie's Profile "Hard" mode does the same and it ends up the easier way to experience the game because you have more control over character/party stats)
The stat system used in every other version of TO functions like this. The PSP version has permanently lost stat gains for characters that aren't in said class when it levels up. Sure its 0.1 per level, but this adds up when you consider the sheer amount of levels you can possibly gain by minmaxing the amount of classes used at any given time.
        >It's an easier direct HD port of the PSP version with uglier upscaling and art direction.
Outright false, Reborn is mechanically different from the PSP version from the outset.

Reborn literally reverted a ton of the changes from the PSP version to make it more like the previous versions with a twist because of fan backlash/complaints. Matsuno and his team even brought it up early on in the interview.
Now if they would change Deneb's recruitment condition away from the moronic dragon/glass pumpkin bullshit and make it like the original.
Shaman quest is probably going to be left the same even though that was the most blatant case of stage bloat in the series.

            Anonymous

End game content is something thats talked about often in mmos. Build variety is something many of them try to strive for but never really accomplish because of the balancing act they tend to have to maintain.

              Anonymous

When I think of MMO end-games I think of grinding hours away to get some specific gear or crafting material drop as I work toward the single end-game viable gearset for my class which also has a single end-game viable stat distribution and skill set so that I can grind away the same couple dungeons/raids for even more hours to get the next piece and repeat forever and ever. So when they say "like an MMO but single player" I feel very turned off. I assume this isn't what they actually mean, but it's a poor choice of words in my opinion. MMO design is far from what single player RPGs should strive for. I don't want my single player RPG to have some endless tedious endgame, I want it to be good for its duration and then end definitively and satisfyingly.

Never played Tactics Ogre, but I didn't much care for FFT. I'm not sure why a game that put so little emphasis on stats had such a metric shitload of grinding.

Is Tactics Ogre the same way?

      Anonymous

There is grinding, but iirc random encounters are scaled to your level.
Class based leveling means that you can just make any new recruit instantly valuable by changing them to an established class, but it also means that if you want to try a new class, it will be woefully underleveled for a while before it can catch up.
The equipment being restricted by class level also means that you can't even give them good gear to try and bridge the gap.
But outside of that + the passive skill grind (like using a specific element spells for your "mastery" of the element to level up so you deal more damage with those spells etc) there isn't that much grinding in the game if my memory serves. You should be able to just consistently do the story segments without needing a grind detour.
If you are thinking of playing the emulated PSP version save often and use savestates and always keep a savestate outside a fight. I lost 3h of progress at some point because I only had 1 savestate and the party composition I had for that fight wouldn't let me save the target in time.

You do realize the PSP version is also smeared right? Tactics Ogre on PSP uses the hardware's built-in bilinear filter over the sprites, you cannot even get the blur away by zooming out as much as possible.

Optional fights against NPCs you can do to grind. It's just moving encounters from random, to a menu you can trigger whenever you want.

There's random encounters that have been removed.
But there are also dungeons with monster spawns if you remember.

are they gonna add some extra locations for early game?

              Anonymous

The game will have a rolling level cap that keeps getting raised as you progress the story.
There won't be much point ir turbogrinding and training fights will mostly be there to bring up new recruits to par.
Sidequests and optional areas are obviously still in. You can see the farmable forest area in the screenshot.
By the time you need to grind you should already have a bunch of these locations unlocked.

I have a hard time believing a game designed to be played on the SNES will be anymore clunky, and unplayable on a modern console than on a PC. Its not like XCOM or Wasteland where they were clearly designed to be played on a PC with consoles as an after thought

That's only the default, multiple early previews have shown that it can be increased by levels or skill unlocks, the same way you buy more capacity in LUCT

        Anonymous

4 spells that can be swapped with ease is good still, since you dont want to spread your elements out too much to take advantage of the ele adverse debuffs, and in some footages you can actually carry more iirc
think ive ever only used some 5-6 different spells at most with 1 caster in my playthrough

How badly do the RPG mechanics ruin the tactics gameplay? I hate tactics games where you can trivialize the battles with the bullshit character customization and rpg shit

      Anonymous

it depends slightly on gears and the options you have available (ie early game archers + ninja and late game mages + valk element buffing are a menace), but generally its a very pick-counter pick kind of game
      >use some monster units to tank
      >kill the dragoon asap to protect the monsters
      >bring your own dragoon to deal with theirs
      >mages for countering knights and be the sweeper
      >but gotta protect them from archers, so you must have rusher (or high ground advantage)
      etc etc

      Anonymous

Its a Japanese SRPG anon. The balance goes out the window in the mid to late game once you start to optimize gear and skills. Chapter 1 of reborn seems to nicely balanced though from the footage I saw. Weapon arts aren't available and they nerfed archery so Canopus can't solo every encounter out of the box.

        Anonymous

That blanket statement really doesn’t hold. The few good FE games don’t have RPG shit and, thus, aren’t trivialized easily. Same with Triangle Strategy. But FE3H is absolute dogshit that allows you to make a dodgetank unit and never have to think again

          Anonymous

The only actually challenging FE I played was Thracia 776 ages ago and even then it got kinda easy near the end game. Haven't played Triangle strategy but I will say that the more freedom you give a player to customize the more likely balance will get thrown to the wayside.

It's a double edged sword. Enemy levels are matched with your strongest unit, so If you keep relying on few characters, it can come back and bite you hard, and in worst case scenarios, it might softlock your run.

        Anonymous

I’ve heard that some unit types are overpowered. Is this the type of game where you could just make a bunch of them and then the level issue you mention would be a nonfactor?

          Anonymous

Not really, levels only gives you more tools to play but you need good equipment to go further. Most equipment are locked behind recipe books and these are usually obtained through loot. If you overlevel then these might end up too hard to obtain.

The difference is that FFT's gameplay was designed by mainline Final Fantasy devs, which is why it's is such a broken shallow mess. The team who designed TO then went on to make Knight of Lodis and the FFTA games, which is why those are all good.
