Depends on if you went to college, which then splits up into if you went for an artistic degree or an engineering degree. If you didn't go to college, you're a wagie hoping to get by throughyour paychecks. If you got an artistic degree, you're a wage slave hoping you can pay off your debt. If you got an engineering degree or any other important degrees, you're just grinding away until you can retire at an age where you can't have any fun.
Didn't go to college and got into game industry. In this field, nobody cares about college, its all about connections and maybe a good portfolio can get you in, if you're lucky.

There's risks involved with hiring people. How do I know you're a dependable person?

This. This is what they don't tell you in high school or college. Getting the degree is only half the battle. The other half is spending time building relationships and impressing people already in he industry you want to enter.
I learned all that the hard way. Took me a year before I landed something after graduating. And even then it was mostly luck.

Agreed. I only got my foot in the door because a relative recommended me when the company was small. I was promoted over the years because I don't suck, but when I see the official hiring process today where a candidate gets judged by 9 people, I know there's no way I'd get hired. Making people like you on demand might as well be a hard skill given how important it is.

Tell me about it.
>Need to pass the initial resume screen. Need to somehow not get your resume auto-filtered out. >Phone interview >Then somehow score high enough on questionnaire/take home assignment/technical interview. >Pass multi-person committee face-to-face interview. If even one person on the committee doesn't like you for whatever reason, you're SOL. >Interview with your potential manager and teammates. Better hope you give off the right "cultural ft" for that manager/teammates or you're SOL. >Company tells you to fuck off and say they'll contact you in a few weeks if they want you. >Ghosts you if they pass on you. Not even giving you a courtesy "Sorry, but you're not picked" e-mail. Forces you to call THEM up to see what's what, wasting potentially weeks of your time.
All this I went through and is common for the tech industry. Even non-tech job interview procedures isn't too far off from this.

Women, unironically. Women entering the work force fucked everything(except (you)).
i have an engineering degree but burned out right after graduating, so i couldnt get any related jobs or licenses. i went right into creatives. some years later i got burned out after working as that too. now im living on savings in my mid-30s and im just trying to get by while taking small projects here and there.
last time i had a job you basically stood outside for 8 hours listening to music and shoveled a couple of times. it was right after they introduced robo scanners so anyone who wasn't an engineer basically did fuck-all
Here are the very basic understandings of work. >blue collar job you like: Fulfilling >blue collar job you hate: Hell >white/pink collar job you like: Nice >white/pink collar job you hate: Tiring >night shift job you like: Chill >night shift job you hate: Suicide
I saw some speculation it might be a dark messiah clone rather than a skyrim clone and if true I really hope they don't fuck it up
but even a shitty take on dark messiah would probably be decent fun
Isn’t putting treasure behind EVERY waterfall going to get predictable very quickly? It should be just one waterfall or a select few, so it’s more special.
only the most kino secrets are reserved for hiding places behind other secrets. hiding something behind every waterfall in the game is fine, but constant secrets behind secrets would get annoying.
So what would Avowed even play like? Since it sure isn't going to play anything like an elder scrolls game.
Ideally for me it would try to convert as many aspects and gameplay features from the pillars games as possible.
Realistically, it will play as a slightly more refined version of the outer worlds.
I work from home so I slack off whenever I can.
If they don't have enough work for me to do I'm not going to search for more unless they pay me more.
Beats animating 50 hours a week for "contract" wages.
i work from home as well, but i'm pretty much the opposite.
I suspect they might be taking advantage of me, but i'm really just happy to be getting paid to game dev, so I'll often volunteer for whatever is needed, idc if they don't pay me extra or tack on extra job titles next to my name. I just love what i do and do it as much as i can.
I’m going to be graduating with good results in a few months with a computer science degree, I don’t care what I do with my life I just want to work from home.
>with good results
lmao you have no idea how many students graduate comp sci with good grades. hope you have some personal projects or some internship references.
Good fucking luck. You're up against the tens of thousands of experienced people tech companies just laid off. Better hope your portfolio is damn impressive.
Well, test your luck first at least. Like what the anon above you said.
Try your luck with regular civilian companies then the military-industrial complex.
I live in very rural England, there is no army stuff nearby, I’ll just end up hopefully getting something and moving to the city because I cannot stand >40 minute commutes
Please fucking slash me already I'm sick of this shit. I barely do any work and have zero motivation and yet I'm still getting promoted. It's only a matter of time before it all comes crashing down I just want it over with.
>with good results

Companies are cracking down on WFH.
Tech jobs are being slashed left and right.
is right. Take what you can get bro. Also, you should've been applying since the start of this year, and that's being generous, many Spring 23 grads started applying last summer.
Take what you can get, you're not getting WFH straight out of college. You don't want to be these dudes with 400 apps and no offer. I suggest trying the defense companies. Raytheon Lockheed Boeing etc if you're a US citizen and not a criminal.
People graduate with comp sci degrees from dinky state schools thinking they'll land a $100,000/year starting salary at Google, MS, or Facebook, or some other big tech firm. Those "Day in the life" videos of vapid women in tech companies fucking around with job perks and only doing 2-3 hours of real work only made this worse.
I was CS (online GM for FFXI) that ended up getting moved over to QA.
At the time, Square-Enix didn't handle the customer service portion of this game, it was being handled by Sony - and by extension, SOE. The same fuckups that mismanaged Everquest II, Star Wars Galaxies, MxO and all of the other failed games under their belt.
I don't miss that fuckass place, John Smedley was an absolute fucking scumbag, fuck that gay.
If you put treasure behind every waterfall that makes it less special. Part of the fun is checking every waterfall and finding THE ONE that has shit behind it
what does he do about leaky faucets?
There isn't any treasure around the leaky faucet in Grounded, so...
Hopefully he got fired. People are just way too lazy about their jobs these days, smhead

it’s over
you can get connections through modding,
if you're a noteworthy modder for a specific game, the developers usually take notice.

It's like work.
it's honestly not that bad if you do white collar work
i put in my 40, get paid mid six figures, still have time/energy left to do other shit
What is your job?
chef at wendy's
I like it. But I like people and doing things and getting out of the house.
You sound like a pathetic human being
slippery hot socks

Like a game with too many dailies to enjoy.
milky salt coins
I am a glorified tard wrangler working for $15 an hour. It could be worse.
I tell people I am in college but I failed out last year.
At least he is doing something on the game. Someone post “it”
Avowed is going to be complete dogshit, isn't it.
Obsidian had never made a good game.
It's going to be 8% better than Outer Worlds.
>he still thinks it's happening
I saw some speculation it might be a dark messiah clone rather than a skyrim clone and if true I really hope they don't fuck it up

I implement pupper head pat mechanics.
Where would you put the treasure?
Isn’t putting treasure behind EVERY waterfall going to get predictable very quickly? It should be just one waterfall or a select few, so it’s more special.
are you lost? its been happening since 3d games started and it is predictable. thats the joke
its already predictable. i check every waterfall regardless of the game, and im always disappointed when theres nothing there.
i get disappointed when i find one secret and there isn't another hidden behind it
great when there is one though
only the most kino secrets are reserved for hiding places behind other secrets. hiding something behind every waterfall in the game is fine, but constant secrets behind secrets would get annoying.
>secret
>behind that there's another secret
>behind that there's a third secret
>the third secret is a whole new area
That was literally a joke in Brutal Legend.
>NEW loot behind waterfall
BAD
>OLD loot behind waterfall
GOOD
Everything that is new is bad. Your point?
So what would Avowed even play like? Since it sure isn't going to play anything like an elder scrolls game.

sounds like they were just trying to keep him away from high stakes decisions
i make the porn animations
I'm the rapist.
well since you're asking, level designer, but also environment artist/ 3d modeler, but that part is uncredited. On paper I'm just a level designer.
Thank you, Kayd. I really appreciate your work.
So quirky
As if any of you incels can get pass the women in HR. They can immediately sense the inceldom/NEETdom off of you all.
i volunteer to playtest

You picked the worst time to graduate.

Nothing is more disappointing, than a waterfall without a treasure cave behind it.
