I made a fanfiction about Fallout Florida, where it was mostly hit with FEV and it mutated literally everything to the point it became Jurassic Park.
And it's so irradiated that most humans avoid it, and it became a Super Mutant kingdom where they ride Mutated Gators. Any human trying to enter will need massive protection or become a super mutant themselves. Thus the protagonist becomes a super mutant who seeks out special FEV containers that mutate them further and further into a beast.

      >NYC
You could come up with a plot for why it's not just grey-grey-grey. Like an irradiated geck (Fallout tactics 2 idea) goes apeshit and has central park expand and produce an urban literal jungle elsewhere. Maybe Chinatown was used as a concentration camp, but ended up being prime survival territory when the nukes fell so they are one of the major factions in the city.

Remember that the world deviated from ours after WW2, so Cuba wouldn't have fallen to Castro and you could have it as a place to visit (DLC or base game). That'd give a great option for "Americana but exotic" since it'd be Americanized Cuba - Mafia, Ernest hemmingway and shit.

Normally I would've said Detroit, since drivable / customizable vehicles would be a logical next step for the series and setting it in Motor City would contextualize that, factions stripping old sssembly lines for undamaged parts

However since the show ended up being so popular they're just going to move it back out to California or somewhere close so they can have all sorts of cameos from the tv characters (they will all be marked essential)

if you think bethesda-era fallout was dumbed down for a mass audience then you haven't seen anything yet

If they wanted a gimmick then that'd be a great concept. I'd hate an open world emptiness of vehicles, but they could lean hard on mad-max with a Detroit upper midwest wastes, vehicular combat.

The farthest I can see them going is either part of Mexico or Canada as DLC, though I'm pretty sure in the Fallout universe basically all the trees in Canada got mowed down for resources so realistically it'd be Mexico

        >Emil has some weird obsession with literally having 1:1 versions of American colonial history so they'll be named like the Minutemen
I can't stand the obsession of Bethesda with pre-war America. Every fricking character is obsessed with American history and imagery. It feels so cheap and stupid. Most characters living in the Fallout universe at this point wouldn't know what the frick America is, let alone know some obscure shit like Minutemen and whatever the frick. Only extremely smart and educated individuals like the Followers (Caesar being part of them) and such would know about pre-nuclear holocaust history and even they would get a lot of facts wrong because that kind of information wouldn't be easy to come across and what you come across would be disjointed and incomplete. Yet in Bethesda's shitty fanfiction we have every random shmuck be a patriotic American or some shit.

I think either New Orleans or Florida would be the way to go. I think Alaska has so much potential for creativity in the Fallout setting and you could have some really beautiful vistas mixed in with all the craziness that would come from a fictional nuclear war there, but that's putting a lot of weight on bethesda to be creative enough to make it work and I don't think they have it in them to do it right. That isn't even meant to be a jab at them, I just think it would be wasted potential for areas that would be interesting enough on their own merit.

Denver Colarado. I want to explore mountain passes. You can have the "easy" locations over the plains along the river and then have a dangerous mountain region full of Mutated Fauna, Raiders and Unity/Enclave/Tribal remnants.

Preferably make it more settled and clean. I'm sick of ramshackle fallout.

I want Texas. I want it to be the earliest game yet, focusing on tribal humans and shit.
    >Player begins as tribal
    >Tutorial would just be learning to hunt and scavenge
    >Tutorial ends with player tribe getting killed by weird tribals never before seen speaking weird language no one understands (Spanish)
    >Player is sole survivor, gets saved by passing prospectors that saw smoke and came to scavenge
    >Player is carried to first town which wouldn't be tribals, more a loose confederation of people
And from there the main story threat would be the Mexican tribe invading. There'd be a bunch of ways to deal with them. Lots of warring tribes that have internal beefs with one another that the player could help solve to deal with the Mexicans, or just join a tribe and conquer the others. I'd want totally new everything. No BoS, Enclave, or anything. Not even hints or callbacks anywhere.

      >I want Texas.
You can't do an entire state. Texas is cool the problem is that it's massive and it's biome's would feel monolithic if the State itself wasn't so massive. You got to pick a city.

I want to say Albaquerque or Phoenix since it has a good blend of desert, mountain, and national parks but Sawyer had to put his crap ass Legion there.

When I say Texas, I don't care where. I just want the region for the story. It'd make sense to be further south to the border.

Main reason I want tribals is because I think it'd get Fallout back to it's roots. Bethesda is always focused on big threats, usually some technological horror coming out that the Brotherhood can come out of nowhere to fight. If Bethesda were ever dumb enough to set a Fallout game in a foreign country, I guarantee you the Brotherhood would somehow be there. They'd fly their big dumb blimp across the world to make it into the story. I just want the story back, the pillars of what Fallout was supposed to be about. It feels like Bethesda is more interested in making everything big and dumb though for the sake of branding. Kind of like how Star Wars has to have a known character show up in everything for branding purposes. That or Bethesda are just totally creatively bankrupt, which I don't argue either.

          Anonymous

Big Threats were always a part of Fallout. The first game is about the looming threat of the Super Mutants who are about to wipe out every town in the game until that mechanic was cut. Two was going to have the deep state gas the entire west coast. Tactics had a killbot army marching across the midwest gunning down everyone. Van Buren was going to have a mad scientist unleash a prewar disease and then nuke everyone. "Low stakes" Fallout is something localized entirely in New Vegas and even then only the main game because 3/4 DLCs have you stopping some technological terror from fricking up the wastes again.

With all that said I still agree with you that Bethesda's obsession with the Brotherhood of Steel is nothing short of ridiculous and having a game without them or at least them only have a minor presence would be very welcome.

What's I'm more curious is whether they'll do blank slate or do a more defined character. Personally I could go either way. Their method of showing dialogue options was garbage in 4 but I didn't mind a voiced character with a set background, even if I didn't find Nate's to be the most engaging due to how the story played out. Larian showed how popular a blank slate could be but they also had a very fleshed out cast of supporting characters with their own interactions but I still vastly prefer Durge over Tav. Meanwhile Bethesda doesn't let us have more than one companions at once more often than not.

I'm fine with Energy Weapons being completely off the walls experimental nonsense but I'd like it to be counter balanced by more sensible and realistic gun design. >I want one glance at a Plasma gun to make a player think "Yeah, Maybe the BoS has a point, normal people shouldn't have this"
The BOS would have far bigger fish to fry than keeping hand-held weaponry of the non-existent streets.
            https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Project_Pluto
Imagine intact bunkers full of things like this, except FAR more advanced. Strategic weapons that could completely eradicate whatever life is left, moldering until some jackass finds the keys. They'd be more concerned with finding those bunkers, hangars, and silos before anyone else.

              Anonymous

A strategic asset like that would warrant an entire branch of the Brotherhood going nuclear over an area, but you still have small scouting parties and outposts who manage smaller scale conflicts and regulate more managable technologies, which I think should be their role in the next game. It also shouldn't be "Hey this random civilian has a laser weapon, let's terrorize him" so much as actually doing something about groups of Raiders getting their hands on large amounts of advanced weaponry or tactical nuclear armaments.

I'm sick of the blimps and fleets of Vertibirds. I want a game where the Brotherhood's presence consists of a handful of scribes and one actual Paladin who pissed off an Elder and got assigned b***h duty in the boonies over it.

This is what they were doing in Fallout 4. Danse even mentions that Maxson has forbidden them from taking tech from normal wastelanders, and we see the BoS make attacks on raiders and super mutants hoarding tech.

                Anonymous

Yes and that's good, I'm just saying I'd prefer a game where the Brotherhood's presence is less pronounced.

                Anonymous

A single well-armed paladin, with a prepared defensive position, would alone be a strategic asset compared to the less sophisticated banditry. The only thing that would be spread thin for the BOS would be people with scientific background, with an advanced understanding of material science, engineering, and nuclear material handling, not to mention what would be necessary for bio or chem weapons.

                Anonymous

I don't think strategic is the right description, particularly since if he wanted to clamp down on some raiders he'd have to leave his defensive position, and he'd only be on guy. Hence why it's conducive for the player to arrive and offer a hand in exchange for certain privileges, training, gear that the BoS would have unique access too.

Overall I'm just saying that Bethesda needs to back away from making the Player the Supreme leaders of massive factions instead of just the very good best friend of influential people in the Wasteland and the perks that come with that.

That's part of why I like FO tactics approach to things; trainees are used for lesser missions like that, sparing the more experience and better equipped troops for more important issues. Plus, they are inherently outnumbered, so they would need to keep a lower profile, and not call attention to the manmade horrors they safeguard.

But Bethesda's idea of "experimental" design just makes the weapon look like it came out of a college dropout's garage project.

is actually pretty cool too. I say just put in both. There is literally no reason Pre-war America and post war organizations (like the BoS, Enclave, Institute, etc.) wouldn't make their own laser weapon designs. Shit, even the Minutemen could do it.

As for the issues with the sights on laser weapons, that's easily fixable, and even the ergonomics actually get better with upgrade mods in FO4, if I recall.

Is it because California and whatever shithole FO:3 is based in are Democratic States, not Republic States (who, through the power of the cultural zeitgeist, I assume are the kind of people who would have such bunkers)? How is that relevant? Private bunkers are displayed in Fallout. They're all over the place in 4. Your neighbor in Sanctuary has one. Private Vaults are going to be relatively small and typically only good to last a month at most. Building a self sufficient, totally air tight, subterranean habitat is a pretty phenomenal feat of engineering.

I'd imagine the nuclear weapons of 2077 aren't what they were in the 1950's. The glow was a deep underground research facility that was unearthed via nuclear blasts. If anything, the world Bethesda portrays isn't nearly devastated enough; it should be nearly glassed, with shifting dunes of finely powdered ash, bone, and the dust of what was once skyscrapers and homes. It would be considered the beginning of a new geological epoch due to how drastically it changed the global environment.

A toledo-detroit setting would be cool, a smaller city and a bigger city with a lot of random shit between, plus the lake because bethesda always likes to have giant bodies of water serving as part of a map border in their games

Detroit would make a lot of sense actually. The largest city on the Canadian border and a massive industrial powerhouse of the era that fallout stereotypically evokes. Imagine a city producing military vehicles and equipment for the nearby invasion, you could even visit Canada and see some of what the occupation looks like. It’s such a cool idea that I hope Bethesda never even close to it.

It's obviously going to be Las Vegas to cash in on the TV show and nostalgia of the old game.
They'll just make the map seamless add Nellis to the northeast and the Hoover Dam to the southwest and update the strip to include new landmarks like the sphere

Wouldn't Redding become a huge location, due to the gold mine? Wouldn't they turn into something resembling Switzerland, but with more gambling and trading?

That's basically what it was in Fallout 2, all the other settlements wanted to get it into their camp because of the mines

No more deserts, please! Deserts are boring. I want it to have mountains, pine tress, I want nuclear winters, I want to snowboard down a mountain while shotting down some Yeti Super Mutants.

I don't care about a burgerland game set in post apocalyptic burgerland. Everything about this Fallout universe sounds interesting, except the game itself.

Chances are it's San Fran because they told Obsidian and the show runners not to touch that area. Could be New York as well but it would feel too similar to 3 and 4

Lore-bloat is a cancer that destroys whatever setting it afflicts. Look at what happened to star wars. If nothing else, they need to cultivate and protect a timeless aesthetic, which is what really sustains these things.
