There's a lot of freedom to roleplay a character. Even if the game has a lot of linearity without letting you deviate too much you can show loads of personality in your playthrough, and there is some reaction to your character choices.
Playing a toreador feels unique because everyone talks shit about your clan.
The fact that it let you do whatever the fuck you want and play the game however you want.
Also the atmosphere was banging and most characters, while stereotypes to the point of parody, were somewhat memorable.
It actually railroads you pretty hard, it just provides you with a lot of opportunities to express your personality as another poster noted earlier, and your clan choice makes huge impact in how your playthrough feels.
>It actually railroads you pretty hard
To be fair, there's a convincing enough in-universe reason why it feels railroady at times, and once you deal with the "source" of the raidroadiness the game basically ends anyway.
It was never good. It was memed into being "good".
I'm the one who played it on release. It was a fucking mess, I don't think I even seen so many bugs and performance problems. You think cp2077, starfield and bg3 got a lot of bugs? Lmao. Add here a loading times. LOADING. no. L ----- O ----- A ----- D ----- I ----- N ----- G times.
Plus, game basically ended after santa monica. And even in santa monica you barely got actual choices. You might think picking twintail whore over whore with glasses might change something? No. No one ever mention it for the rest of the game.
Even now, in 2023, after all fan patches, after restoring all cut content, it's still half a game.
Why people remember it? Artstyle, obviously. Plus they never played it on release. And also I don't think they are very smart, if they can't see all those problems. Some people even have the audacity to call it immersive sim.
The game ran fine, not my problem you ran on it on some piece of shit hardware that was 3 years old.
The only serious bug was the boat crashing bug which was fixed by the very first patch (the community found a way around it immediately using console commands).
The game did not end in Santa Monica.
The game is in fact a full game, albeit with a few rushed sections (thanks Gabe, you fucking asshole).
why blame Gabe? As Activision wanted a simultaneous release with Half Life 2, HL2's delays should have been an opportunity to clean up the game. Activision's higher-ups were fucking retarded and made Troika not work at all for the entire delay period
Because it wasn't Activision who "wanted" a simultaneous release. It was stipulated in their contract with Valve. They get to use the new fancy engine but they have to release at the same time with Half-Life 2. It was Valve's way of showing how versatile their engine was. They didn't work during the delay because they were already over budget.
Go back and look for interviews in magazines, the entire development was fucked because of the time limit which Valve themselves didn't honor.
You may see it as overrated, but it's clear that most people here disagree with you. If you know your position is niche, why present it as fact?
Nobody here is saying this game is the best thing ever made, they merely appreciate its good qualities while acknowledging its flaws.
Furthermore, I didn't ask why you were being negative toward this game in specific. If you hold such niche and hate-filled views, and are willing to express them at a moment's notice, it's clear that you are likely not satisfied with your life. So I ask, what compels you to be so negative all the time?
I just mean that it's super bad after santa monica. Downtown is mediocre. Hollywood is shit. Chinatown is one of the worst things I've seen in my 30+ years of playing games.
>New Vegas version >low res, used as bait for flame wars >VTMB version >character models in high quality format, with a little backdrop for the shadow
This proves that VTMB is better than New Vegas. New Vegas just creams over a pseduo-political war and then gets into arguments with pajeets, VTMB meanwhile has posters that actually care.
Anyways, >Bloodlines >Redemption
Any other Vampire the Masquerade/WOD games for me to checkout?
Hunter: The Reckoning, looks to be a fun time with family, rest look like text adventures which I enjoy, but they look like shit ones. If you guys think they're fine I'll give them a shot
Everything was fantastic the setting, characters, story, music, atmosphere, lore. Gameplay was the weakest part but it wasn't that bad either at least using your disciplines made it interesting and varied. You can complete objectives in different ways either though dialogue or force. What I loved the most is how it makes you feel involved and attach to the world and how characters react differently to your clan which was fun
Fun writing that doesn't go full 'I made this tongue and cheek because I have no self confidence' so it can have a little weight to it.
Dice pool systems are infinitely better than d20.
That's about all I can think of. It's pretty good.
Best girl Pisha.
wonderful time capsule of the 00s
fun role playing
highly replayable
then interesting lore
Wasnt afraid to be edgy
Did a good job capturing the feel late nights in the red light district
Respected the source material
Sexo

Ridiculous waifu game, its aesthetic and atmosphere is still top tier this day.

Everything you said is wrong. You didn't even get the correct location for the fatal game-ending crash.
>Everything you said is wrong
Everything I said is right.
>I wonder what compels someone to be so overly negative all of the time
Because game is extremely overrated, like every troika game.
The game ran fine, not my problem you ran on it on some piece of shit hardware that was 3 years old.

A schizo moment.
Amazing atmosphere, unique choices for RP, interesting story.
The combat sucked, but the actual gameplay outside of the combat was fine.
I wonder what compels someone to be so overly negative all of the time. Did you have to live in Santa Monica IRL?
>game basically ended after santa monica
Did you get the demo disc thinking it was the full game? What are you on about?
I just mean that it's super bad after santa monica. Downtown is mediocre. Hollywood is shit. Chinatown is one of the worst things I've seen in my 30+ years of playing games.
>Artstyle, obviously
It's atmosphere. VTMB artstyle was OK
Not the combat, that's for sure.
it really isn't
it's just things haven't gotten better

I mean, it's pretty good, but it's no Oblivion.
Tone atmosphere dialogue and the portrayal of WoD
atmosphere
the soul is zoomer repellent
