none. they're a dying genre.
>they're a dying genre.
I've been hearing this for at least 10 years now...
Anyone who says MMOs are dying is lying, jaded, or a parrot. Just because there aren’t nonstop mmos coming out doesn’t mean they are dying. Their are some mmos coming out but doomposters will automatically call them bad or wish for their down fall because Ganker hates video games.
>Just because there aren’t nonstop mmos coming out doesn’t mean they are dying.
MMOs coming out is what kills MMOs, they all need a shitload of players to function, dividing the playerbase between too many breaks them all.
>dev makes MULTIPLE MMOs regularly
Funcom, what's the next step of your master plan
Leaving them to crash with no survivors.
I don't know how you can look at the current MMOscape and not see that it's dying. FFXIV doing well does not do anything for the genre as a whole when MMOs as a whole have stagnated into irrelevance, dwindling playerbases and MMO fans are fed flop after flop.
It has been true for over a decade.
Pretty much this, Blue Protocol isn't even calling itself an MMO and is instead an "Online-RPG". They don't even want to use the MMO tag anymore that is how dead it is
This reminds me I have Guild Wars Nightfall to finish. Even as a single player experience, it can be quite fun.
Shame on the bots, though. PvP is effectively dead.
FFXIV
runescape and nothing else
FF14 has lost its way
WOW hasnt been good in a decade
the rest are FOTM trash
Why FOTM bad ?
because mmos are high investment, they’re something you’re gonna wanna be playing for a long time with a player base that doesn’t evaporate after 3 months
Maybe years ago but FFXIV has proven that you don’t need that, you can’t really have neet level of dedication when you have a job/family
FOTM is the true mmo redpill. You get in and speed through a good 1-2 months of all the content the game has to offer, before you get stuck with sunken cost and waste time playing a game you don't enjoy.
Yea I’m with that FOTM is never a bad thing and I’m tired of people acting like it is, bad in the day when mmos had a thousands of hours of grind it wasn’t fun we just didn’t know any better.
the grind and timewasting sucked but it enforced a sense of community and required a very specific type of player, I don't think I'd want to go back to it those life wasting simulators but I do really miss the days of MMOs were you could happen upon other people in a dungeon or overworld have a conversation and group up, everything is instanced immediate satisfaction now and no one communicates
unironically games like vrchat have better sense of community than mmos these days
Back in the day it was fun, it's just that the way games are played has changed too much. You didn't perceive the grind as a grind as most MMOs were not hyperfocused on endgame, the journey to level up was the actual game.
MMOs are dead, everyone moved to MOBAs so go play some league of legends
>so go play some league of legends
genuinely the worst advice I've seen on this website
the genre is unironically dead until there are some leaps in technology
everything that can be done has already been done to death by games like wow/FFXIV
Final Fantasy XI_
FF11 is trash and you should stop trying to push it
They all have their issues so pick your poison, mines Realm of the Mad God.
I don't know, maybe some WoW private server
WoW private servers
None, really. I just play PSO2 because of the customization. I also have a few accounts on many private mmo servers because why not? They're free and it help scratch that old mmo itch from time to time.
Damn meteor dodger
Too bad pso2 is hot trash
>have to pay monthly just to play the game
>the games you don't need to will still have an even bigger pile of money sinks that you will eventually have to dive into
MMOs are the ultimate definition of goyslop.
They are mostly dying, but if you want anything good, anything you can trade and sell stuff with the Steam Market is good due to the semi controlled market.
Would be nice if we ever got a new MMO that isnt one of the following
>Gets changed 3 times
>Made by a juice selling conman
>Korean
>A WoW clone
>Loses its lead dev after "3" years despite never having shown anything about the game
>Braindead overworld combat
>Braindead overworld combat
Define this
Like ESO where you can left click almost everything to death.
But what do you even want to replace it with?
Kinda interested in starting this game. What am I in for?
Full of bots or p2w guys or people that played the game for 15 years. You play multi account and play a mmo full solo or you play mono account and juste start with years behind and will compete with bots enjoy.
XIV if you want a vanity simulator
WoW if you want to be a hardcore elitist grinding a leaderboard
ESO if you want big PvP battles
XIV
Guild Wars 2, maybe
I play Lotro with my boomer pals
it's comfy
man LotRO just oozes soul and charm everywhere despite the jank and the F2P model doing its best to kill your immersion
Please play Tower of Fantasy
Worst post in the thread
This game is going to flop so hard if it ever comes out minus some whales who will keep it afloat. I was interested in it at first but the giant red flag of coming out with a new set of cosmetics every month that you could "purchase" really smacked of a Star Citizen kind of scam.
Sherwood
Home.
i play FFXIV and WoW
everything else is dogshit, especially the soulless korean garbage grinders
EVE if you want something unique.
seconding this
recent expansion is fucking awesome
getting lots of gudfites in FW
This webm with zero actual gameplay is very enticing
You must be joking.
just play wow
it's always the answer
Mmos are dead because the average player wanted a single player game but in a social hub.
People who actually wanted multi-player content get.... Repeating the same dungeon every week to have a chance at a 1 percent stat increase!
Ff11 was the last real mmorpg, something that actually required you to play with other people.
Entire idea of mmos is a fictional world to live in, not a mandatory social work of herding cats. God fucking damn i am tired of this argument. What is even more annoying the entire genre got warped so fucking much by both sides of this retardation we get like three mmo tops that even remember what the whole thing supposed to be about, and all of them are decade old at the very least.
only wow
you can tell by how much it's making people seethe all the time
None of them are really worth it, but FFXIV is by far the biggest meme. Don't fall for the shill, it's one of the worst games ever created.
It will never, ever, be worse than GW 2.
No, it's worse than GW2. By a mile.
Dead content, poz story, shitting on older legacy, botted PvP, NO HOUSING, shit customization, artstyle that age like milk, raid and high tier content abandon, nerfing hard content because people complain it fails all the time, hard content like raid is the EASIEST of the mmo genre but walled and excluded to only 1% of the playerbase, wvw is zombified and I can go on.
OSRS and FFXIV are objectively the only MMOs currently worth playing
>FFXIV
>worth playing
