4K has 4 times the pixels as 1080p which in modern games comes out to pretty much a quarter of the framerate. so when your shit is stuttering along at 40-70 fps 1080pChads are playing at twice that or more, and potentially with quiet, cheap GPUs. 4K IS a meme.

I thought I would have trouble with games supporting it, but actually it's been great so far. Games that support 1080p usually support other 16:9 resolutions, and if not then there's probably an easy fix in the config files or a fan patch. I set the desktop scale to 125% though so icons look more like 1080p size.

Call it a meme all you want but anything less just feels cramped now.
Its like high refresh rate, seems stupid until you try to go back, then you realize how much of a difference it makes.
Keep calling it a meme though, at least with 16:9 you don't get israeliteed out for anything about 1080p; 16:9 1440p 144Hz IPS monitors are stupid cheap compared to ultrawide and I'm jealous tbh

          Anonymous

I called it a meme because I don't see the point in it when you need to keep a high mouse sensitivity to navigate your desktop(unless you're using a twm and a heavy use of shortcuts which I haven't seen a single ultrawidegay use ever)

I also vastly prefer keeping only around 4 programs on screen max at a time and then just use workspaces to access the other programs when I need to. Tasks that need me to use more than 4 at a time are extremely rare for my use cases.

I hate alt tabbing and having that second or two of jank because my epic gaming PC is changing resolution. I tried RDR2 at 1080 ultra and got sick of that right quick. Still manage to get 100+ frames in 1440 and cherry picked graphic settings

I'll add that with a visual experience like RDR2, playing at 1080 at 27" or greater looks bad. There is no way to fix the inherited blur, not even hardcore antialiasing. If a game somehow supports borderless window 1080 and stays fullscreen on a 1440 monitor, I'll try that

    >1920x1440@60hz
If the game is locked to 60hz
    >1600x1200@75hz
    Games with inconsistent frame rates
    >1280x960@85Hz
Best compromise between smoothness and resolution
    >1024x768@115hz
Games that benefit from higher refresh rates while still looking good

Sometimes it's hard being a CRT Chad with all the options, but still better than being a LCD cuck stuck in a single resolution.

4k, but i kind of regret it, because now everything under 4k makes my eyes hurt, like watching an old blurry VHS.

1440p but the monitor is a first generation IPS and has awful response times. I don't know how I gamed on it for so long.
Bought a friends old VG248QE and been having a blast on it (1080p 144hz). So fast and responsive. I honestly feel robbed of time.

I have a 4k tv with HDMI 2.1 that I plug my ps3/ps5 into and I play at whatever settings they default to.

    1080p.
I can't stand 27" monitors. Too big for me.
