What should Capcom do for Resident Evil 9? Posted on May 23, 2023 by Anonymous What should Capcom do for Resident Evil 9?
Make a good game
take resident evil 4 remake's treasure system, and gunplay. make Chris or Rebecca the main character, set it in modern day Brazil. and make the twist so that there wasn't any outbreaks, and the whole game relies on a bunch of misdirection, and coincidences
Favela zombies, now that's terrifying.
What else ? drug gangs using B.O.W's to invade rival favela turfs ?
what would the twist be?
it was all druggies?
could work but then all the enemies would just be humans
humans, dogs, exotic animals bring in the weird giant animals from 0 have the main antagonist of the game just be the leader of a cartel.
so you want them to turn re into far cry?
no, making it open world would ruin it, but if you want it to be more like resident evil, have the drug dealer lace his shit with the t-virus or ancient bird shit, or something.
wasn't this already done by darkside chronicles?
i always forget about operation javier, it'd be cool if they made that into a fully fleshed out co-op game similar to resident evil 5
Wrong. The enemies would be brasilians.
Would be cool Moira and Natalia/Alex coop in this setting
>a treasure system like RE4make's
>Claire and Jill as protagonists
>co-op like Rev2
>make it zombies or something weird like the t-abyss creatures
>a stalker creature in moments like Ustanak
>make a Jake Wesker appearance for the love of god
>an item combination system like David's on Outbreak
>the return of co-op mercenaries
>Ada getting involved for the last time
>third person like the latest remakes
>a dodge system like RE3make
Follow up on REmake 4 and have it be about a playable Ash.
Kill this gay ass franchise
A powerful BOW has to survive a boss rush of Jill, Chris, Clare, and Leon
Keep with New characters instead of reusing the olfags.
More RE7 style than RE8
stick to third person, build on RE4R's parry system maybe make perfect parries function like Carlos punch, heavily restrict what weapons you can bring with you but let you use as much random junk and enemy weapons as you can find. to compensate for only carrying like 2 guns + knife. basically marry resident evil and dead rising 1's improvised weapons
Add Raid Mode and expand upon it. Free money for a bonus live service "minigame".
It would be nice if they dedicated a game to Umbrella's fall since it happened behind the scenes, it would also be a good chance to bring back classic characters without aging. That said, I really think they're either going to embrace a more open-ended semi-open world thing and there'll definitely be more stealth, which is something the series sorely needs.
>It would be nice if they dedicated a game to Umbrella's fall since it happened behind the scenes
Their stocks plummeted and they had no funding. Playing a broker in the RE games doesn't exactly tantalize.
Go back to one enclosed location like the early games, but bigger. Have it set in the BSAA Europe headquarters, which is like a skyscraper or something. Do a mix of horror and Die Hard.
make Ada white
She's hapa, is that not enough?
No she isnt
Leon's yellow fever is part of his character at this point
third person, first person is for estrogen injecting faggoids.
>survival horror again, the last 2 games have been action
>Chris or Jill as the protag
>set it in the American northwest again with cryptids
>finally wrap up the Connections/BSAA plotline
>RE7 was action
Resident Evil 8 and Resident Evil 4 remake were the last 2 RE games.
4 remake was action for sure, 8 was a good balance imo, except for the very last scene which was definitely action
Bring the survival HORROR back. Just that. RE2 remake and the first half of RE7 were so fucking good. I wanted more of that.
Meh. 8 is a bit of horror during Alcina's mansion and the giant baby segment. The rest is just action.
Make more over-the-shoulder REs to follow up on the remakes. Seriously, they've been finetuning that formula so well that I hope they just keep at it.
they should just let you choose between 1st and 3rd person camera or even make it a button press
I wouldn't be surprised if they made DLC for REmake 4 that's just this.
more ethan winters supermanning the main story line. Love that dude.
Say they're going back to their roots by having a horrorish first 2/3 of the game followed by a 1st/3rd person shooter action final third set on a ship or some kind of industrial park.
>New male/female protags
>Canadian border setting
>Ol' fashioned Romero-esque zambambos
mutant critters, a mix of updated classics and some based on local folklore and/or cryptids
>Villain is a buncha tards that fucked up a small scale cult's terrorist attempt and now player has to contend with b.o.ws, remaining cultists, and and government cleanup crew.
make it a third person RE as good as RE2make or REm4ke and drop that stupid first person bullshit with shit ass feeling guns
i'd die happy if they made a brand new (i.e. not a remake) third person RE that's good
The first person ones are better. Far better horror elements, more immersive too.
>i'd die happy if they made a brand new (i.e. not a remake) third person RE that's good
I don't know why they don't just do this already when 90% of REmake 2 and 3 are original scenarios anyway, so they clearly have the capacity to make up new stories.
>re4 fags ruined resident evil back then
>re4 remake fags want to ruin resident evil again by making every next re game like re4
As it should be.
You now understand why RE4 divided the community so much back then.
Half the fans wanted to go back to the original trilogy style, while the other half and newer fans wanted more RE4. And we all know how that worked out.
They're in a good spot right now where the last few games have balanced both the horror and action elements well. Village with the baby/dollhouse and REm4ke with the regenerators. Even REmake 2 starts out horror but in the latter half is basically an action title again.
RE2make and RE4make (the only two good nu-RE games) are actual video games unlike the scripted schlock that is RE8. Anyone who wants more RE8 must be deluded
a full blown co-op action shooter again. Preferably with playable bioweapon characters like Natalia, Rose or Sherry
>people bringing up dumb fan service shit when the OG cast are all in their 40s near 50
>not simply having a new protag with sudden cameos near the end like RE7
>instead of getting guns beyond pistol+shotgun the new MC gets mutant powers after the midway point in the game
>mutant powers run off a stamina bar and if you use them too often your health takes a hit
>if you get too cuh-razy trying to kill everything fast in a panic you basically risk mortally wounding yourself
>this way healing items are also a form of ammunition since there's no way to upgrade the stamina bar
>but JOHN YOU ARE THE DAEMONS
>first 2-3 hours of game is a horror game fighting for your life
>become a monster and must choose between killing everyone involved with the outbreak for different reasons
>or spare some people so the BSAA+Redfield doesn't firing squad your ass at the end of the game
DO IT. JUST DOOOOOO IIIIIIIT
Combine those two ideas and make a action spin off...kinda like MGS Rising was for MGS
About RE9...i really want then to expand the hound wolf squad thing.Less Chris more of his team. You play with a rookie to keep the survivor horror element still on.
>Soft reboot like 7 was without all of the insanity the series has built up, or focus in on a lesser utilized character (Ashley, Sheva, Carlos)
>Go back to regular zombies and tighter, more detailed areas
>Sprinkle in BOWs and maybe have some later zombies with close to Ganado intelligence, where they can climb ladders, ambush the player, and work together to search areas for the player
>RE4 Remake gameplay/third-person perspective but with melee having a slight lesser focus due to how zombies will try to group up on you, so running into a group is discouraged
>Takes place in an urban environment akin to RE2 or RE3
>Bring back more puzzles
>Some kind of progression in terms of equipment like in RE4 if not a full on merchant that upgrades your gear
Honestly, a blend between RE2 Remake and RE4 Remake is what I'd like to see. I know people have issues with the remakes, but I loved them and was sad to see RE8 not build off what the RE2 Remake did.
The main thing for me though is that I'm tired of the absurdity of RE. RE4 was a fluke as far as I'm considered in terms of its atmosphere. Somehow it blended the nerve-wracking gameplay and horror with the absolute goofball action that happened in a way that was enjoyable. RE5 had Wesker doing slow-mo Matrix attacks, Chris punching a boulder, the story digging up more Umbrella history, Jill coming back as a mind-controlled super soldier, all of that. And it kept going from there. RE7 was a great way to somewhat reboot the series, and while RE8 upped the goofball nonsense a bit, it was still "fine". But I don't want to see Leon, Chris, Jill, or any one of them again because, if they're in the story, they bring with them some absurd bullshit. Or, at the very least, it's hard to believe a basic zombie threat would be an issue for any of the old characters. If Capcom wants me to believe Leon would find even a licker to be worrying, I'm not buying it.
>I'm tired of the absurdity of RE
>RE1 wasn't absurd with all the giant mutant animals
>RE2 wasn't absurd with Birkin's every transformation defying the laws of physics in bizarre feats of growth
>RE3 wasn't absurd with the GIANT FUCKING WORM
>RE0 wasn't absurd with the man-woman made of leeches controlled by opera singing
>RE& wasn't absurd with Jack Baker becoming a fucking kaiju after being chainsawed into little pieces
I'm not saying the series as a whole wasn't campy nonsense at times. I'm saying that RE4 and everything past it upped the ante so hard it became a bit much. Most of it was due to the characters becoming absurd themselves. Before, I'd believe that a virus could do some wacky bullshit. A virus that made animals giant? Some guy mutating into dozens of disgusting forms? Some dumbass villain made of literal leeches? Fuck it, crazy virus bullshit. But then you have characters who were very much normal (if extremely well trained and lucky) humans doing inhuman feats. Again, punching boulders, backflipping over lasers, etc.
RE has always been a bit goofy, but there's a range to it that I feel went way too far in that direction, especially with the stupidity of RE6 that likely caused them to soft reboot the series in the first place.
I'm just asking for it to be reeled it, that's it. You can have absurdity, and then there's just action movie schlock like Wesker flicking his sunglasses at Chris or Leon shooting a minigun at a t-rex-esque mutant that was previously a politician.
>Most of it was due to the characters becoming absurd themselves
>implying the character writing in RE wasn't always absurd
I mean I'm pretty sure Chris after facing however many horrors in RE1 and seeing nearly all his comrades dies canonically laughs in Wesker's face. Don't forget Leon and Claire being barely phased by meeting nightmarish monsters in RE2. RE3 Jill was already sick of that shit so she gets a pass. Finally Rebecca gets all sassy with Billy in RE0 despite already witness some horrific fates of her teammates. None of the Re characters react with dread all that much Ethan Winters came close to sounding confused and terrified for his life but then he stops giving a shit halfway his debut game. I will agree RE6 was a travesty but that's because it didn't go hard enough like say Metal Gear Revengence. CAPCOM couldn't commit to "cuh-razy BOW action" ala the concept of Jake Muller so instead it's awkward to fast but also to slow janky gunkata bullshit with constant QTEs. I fucking know the QTEs got removed late but that proves my point because they thought it was a good enough idea to have them in the first place on launch then NEEDED TO PATCH OUT A GAMEPLAY FEATURE so SHUT THE FUCK UP.
Give me all of the Outbreak kind of scenarios but with RE2 Remake gameplay. I love the idea of jumping around different dire situations survivors are dealing with in a near apocalyptic outbreak, trying to escape and make sense of what happened. Some of the scenarios and setpieces in Outbreak were phenomenal. Trying to escape a bar as it's actively overrun, getting out of a hotel that's burning down, making your way through a secret Umbrella base to a train, and encountering all the BOWs that were unique to those areas, it made for a really varied and fun experience.
I know it'll never happen, but I can dream. Outbreak was messy, but such a blast at times.
>Dump the first person entirely
>Chris and or Jill as the main protag
>Have it set in a two parts, my idea is maybe somewhere in south america and then Antarctica in an umbrella facilty for the finale
>Have zombies/infected be the main enemies you fight again
>Sheva cameo or involve her in the story/playable in Mercs
>Set in the Pacific Northwest
>Set in an isolated tourist retreat town
>Mix of exploring dense old growth woods and small quaint waterside towns.
>Introduce NPCs and keep them alive and have them actually give you side quests like Village was supposed to.
>Resident Evil: Twin Peaks
I've seen the idea of X-Files influenced with Cryptids/Alien BOWs thrown around a few times in these threads and I do like it. But I think it might be too out there even for modern RE.
I don't think Aliens would work but cryptids totally would. They've established that mold can give you literal magical powers so why not
Make the new threat a type of fungus that forcefully fuses together two infected if they're close to each other. Main enemies are basic mushroom infected that act similar to Ganado but higher level enemies can be weird deer/human hybrids that invoke the Wendigo.
I don't think actual aliens. Just BOWs that look kind of alien-ish and that NPCs in the world think are aliens. And design wise I think less little grey men and more the weird shit you see in Bloodborne. It's not that unbelievable when you consider we basically got a xenomorph in RE4 already.
I don't envy the people who have to make RE9. RE5, CVX and RE1 remakes are pretty easy to make relatively speaking whereas the expectations for RE9 are that it'll be something completely different for the series.
And Resident Evil has basically exhausted its environments and stories at this point. So much so that the last main entry (Village) was a retread of a lot of shit we've seen before.
>So much so that the last main entry (Village) was a retread of a lot of shit we've seen before.
I honestly feel like they put too much in Village. Each section could've easily been its whole game. Instead we ended up with some jack of all trades kind of game.
*its own game
But the castle and village setting was definitely reminiscent of re4.
Vampires, werewolves and mechanical men could've been cool re games on their own
RE Village should've been the Lycans+various other Mold mutants and Lady Dimitrescu as the final boss. Change Donna Beneviento be able to actually control Mold Dolls that can combine to make porcelain Regenerators and she is Lady D's second-in-command. Dimi Daughters get better boss fight(s) that are an actual puzzle. Heisenberg gets a spin off game/DLC with him as the villain like Lucas in RE7. Delete Moreau. Make Miranda's role a twist ending where Mia is shown dead meaning the Mia Ethan saves is actually Miranda.
Guys...hear me out....Time Travel
If they make another first person game, it better have an FOV slider.
Get a better ui guy, for starters.
Mix all the viruses, plagas, and mold into one gigantic outbreak, and have an army of killer robots and cyborgs exterminating everything that moves.
That is literally what the BSAA is doing at the end of RE Village with their new BOW soldiers.
what are those guys infected with?
It would make sense for the mutated plaga that leaves the brain intact to be what they're using
Tyrant+Modified Plagas probably. I mean RE4+RE5+canonical Damnation Movie shows Plagas infected can be soldiers with guns.
Bring back yoshiki okamoto. Fire yasuhiro anpo. Easy fix.
Introduce a virus that turns people into babies
Demake it 17 years later
>Bring old jill back and have sex with Chris
>Chris retires to desk job because he can't fight anymore
>eternally young Jill just rapes the poor old man because "we weren't friends I just wanted that dick all along and now you can't stop me HAHAHHA"
Do it CAPCOM. After years of Chris trying to force Leon into something he doesn't want lets see HOW HE LIKES IT.
I replayed these all recently and they are all so fucking good up until RE5. RE5 and RE6 are both so horrible. And FUCK the bullet sponge enemies in 5, and the frequent on rails sections. Although its funny that you're fighting 9 foot tall NBA Bill Gates malaria vaccine morons. RE gameplay was good until 5, the lore was cool until 6. Best games are 1 and 4
Apocalypse and reboot the series from RE5R onwards.
Jill's game of course. She is main character after all. Also Barry should be there too.
>Jill is the new RE4 Leon
>acts super smug all the time and is way out of every man's league because she's an immortal ubermench of a woman
I guess that could work.
My idea was Jill in an Umbrella Antarctica base fighting The Thing creatures. And make it like RE4 but with VR compatibility.
I hate how they just reused the ugly RE3 remake outfit for this
...are you really surprised?
Easy. Put Resident Evil in hiatus and make a new megaman game instead.
Hunk becomes the new mute MC as a self insert for the player like they wanted in RE7.
>when CAPCOM forged the MY EXTRACTION POINT meme into existence
Not gonna happen.
Wait a minute Mia Winters doesn't have blonde hair? Ohhhhhhh
>bring back jake
>bring back leon
>bring back claire
>bring back rebecca
>Resident Evil Piers: Revengeance
>can't envision a new protag even though it worked twice now
Let them go. They deserve their rest. Use your imagination.
I find it funny how Ganker used to be the place to autistically discuss fun video games in-depth alongside some Grade A premium elaborate shitposting and now we have neither. Just bitter nostalgiac oldfags/falseflaggers and newbs praising "newest product" for not shitting the bed on release.
>Chris and Leon
>having fun shitposting and talking about gameplay
>being forced to watch as everyone talks about RE as if it's a WEG after his debut game was pretty good for a horror game and then stop talking about it all together once the REmakes after 2 come around
I liked Village funpostingespecially the cuckqueen Mia memes but RE3make and RE4make basically killed all RE discussion lately. I think it's because everything said about them is a lesser derivative of something said before about the originals over a decade ago. RE Memes now are simply disposable garbage compared to "no way fag" and other legendary shitposts.
Bring back Joe Baker. An old man furious with Umbrella and punching zombies and bioweapons to death.
What happen to him after end of zoe? Did he get mentioned in village?
Wasn't mentioned in Village.
Bring back Wesker as the big bad in the shadows. Make Jake the protagonist together with Chris.
They probably will do them, since some things make me believe wendigos are gaining traction as the current popular thing.
Alas, that means I wouldn't be getting a tropical setting any time soon, when I would like it so.
-First or Third Person. I don't mind either way. Ideally, have both options so both sides are satisfied, which is probably what they'll do, since RE8 has both now.
-Preferably a new character. If not that, a returning character that isn't/barely used. If it has to between Chris, Leon, Jill, and Claire, I want Claire because she could go for another appearance.
-Wrap up the storyline with The Connections. Or at the very least, don't drop it and have it be forgotten.
Set in Middle Ages.
Imagine all the Army of Darkness references they could get in.
Why not make it a whole new IP then? Resident Evil is known for evil pharmaceutical companies being involved in the whole monster business, Middle Ages didn't have those.
Resident Evil is whatever the god damn hell it wants to be. RE4 was about an evil cult. RE8 had dragons and werewolves and vampires. RE6 had you fighting terrorists.
And all were related to big pharma.
I don't think there are many people who view Resident Evil's core feature as being about big pharma... Umbrella was just a catalyst that doesn't even appear in a lot of the games as an actual force and is defeated off screen. And the world already has parasites and monsters before Umbrella made the T virus. Las Plagas for example already existed and villagers fought them in the past.
All three of those games had pharmaceutical companies in the background pulling strings and sending spies, it's like you never played a single one of them.
I am not saying its not part of the plot, but to me its just a contrivance for the rest of the monster fighting to occur. I mean when you buy a new RE game is your first excitement "Oh boy I can't wait to learn about how this all connects to big pharma?" Cause I think more about what monsters and gameplay loop the game will have. Umbrella is just window dressing to me, while the tone and gameplay is the meat and potatoes.
>when you buy a new RE game is your first excitement "Oh boy I can't wait to learn about how this all connects to big pharma?"
Actually yes, if only Capcom could properly commit to their storyline and not drop companies into obscurity after introducing them. Otherwise there would be really no difference between RE and just about any other horror game out there.
Interesting, I didn't think anyone gave a shit about the RE plot and lore (since most of it is a poorly told and retconned mess). Ive played all the mainline games and remakes, and even a few spin offs, but for me Resident Evil is defined by a specific tone and feel. A mixture of campy horror and exciting action similar to evil dead. The dumb organization in the background making things happen was just an excuse to kill spanish cave trolls and vampires and hillbillys and zombies.
Have you watched Evil Dead?
>"Oh boy I can't wait to learn about how this all connects to big pharma?"
That was basically my biggest thing going into RE7 just waiting until evil redneck family would just become lmao pharma.
resident evil 10 maybe?
they should return to urban setting and zombies, since these scumbags ruined RE3 remake and the downtown section, that should've been a very expanded hub with new graphics
more big dommy mommy
