Produced too many too greedily and with barely any functionality.

Weirdly the inverse was also true. That Animal Crossing Amiibo Festival game is the only one I remember being specifically Amiibo centric but the game itself was the most barebones version of Mario Party you could imagine. You’d play it once and have done everything

      Anonymous

      Neat concept, awful execution.
      >Smash Bros. spearheaded the concept, pretty cool!
      >Other games can use them, neat!
      >Super Mario Maker lets you use all of them and then some, awesome!
      >And then...that's it.
Then you had games like which required the damn things but if you didn't have the money, it was obsolete. I brought Pac-Man, and then Ganondorf and at that point I realized I was wasting my money. This was around 2015.

You also can't use certain amiibo, I think the Pokemon amiibo could only be used for Smash and Mario Maker, any other game and they wouldn't register.

Blame that on Game Freak being anal more than Nintendo.

yeah i bought that amiibo festival game too. what a pile of shit. i wouldn't even call it "barebones mario party" it was basically just chutes and ladders where you had to constantly tap amiibos to the fricking gamepad which got REALLY old really fast

the devs outright said in interviews they just wanted animal crossing amiibo because they thought they'd be cute and then Lottie nearly killed the entire brand, lmao

Wrong. Scalpers fricked everything up buying up kids figures and extorting prices on ebay and local shops.

No they weren't, they were around 12 burgerbucks. Starting with BotW they became 15 unless the figure is slightly larger than normal than the price shoots up (like the SS Zelda one's debut price was 25 just because of the bird).

Smash and Mario Maker were the only ones that had the functionality be in that sweet spot. In all other games either the rewards were one of the following
    >too minimal to justify the purchase
    >big enough that you were practically required to buy one as a form of physical DLC which would turn off even the most sane NPC

What the absolute frick are the use of Amiibos? MHR has one that's like $15 or $30 and all it gives you is a fricking skin. Is it just a Pop Figure but Nintendo? At least with Skylanders, it was a whole character.

Still shitty for MHR but after the skin, you can get free shit like potions, traps and tickets from scanning MR amiibo everyday. Does cut down on grind a little bit.

The overloading of Animal Crossing amiibos that didn't sell had retailers balk at stocking large amounts afterward and Nintendo responded by simply not making as many new ones as they were before then.
I don't know why they thought making a figure of every single villager will have them all sell gangbusters.

I got 3 Lotte amiibo's. I think it was Bestbuy exclusive and they got sooo damn many. I got my first one cause I thought it was a good idea to buy it on clearance for $2CAD. Then Bestbuy still had many many left, eventually they started giving them away with purchases of other things. They physically forced 2 of them onto me even though I didn't want them

The problem with the Animal Crossing Amiibos was that they only did actual figures for the persistent shop npcs that are in every game, the vast majority of which nobody gives a single frick about.

The actual villagers were relegated to Amiibo cards, and those sold like fricking mad because they're what people actually wanted, they wanted to play the Ankha lottery. I don't know if it was the same for anyone else but back during the Welcome Amiibo expansion I honest to god could not find a single Amiibo card pack at retail because they were just constantly getting cleaned out, meanwhile there was just an entire wall of Kicks amiibos that look like they haven't been touched for a thousand years.

On one hand, Nintendo would never commit to having substantial amiibo content so these mcdonald statues that just unlock an outfit are a waste of time

On the other hand, it's fricking annoying having content locked behind a toy when it's actually something useful or unique

On a third hand, stocking issues and exclusivity deals out the ass made these things obnoxious to collect even if you wanted to, so the sooner these shits are just forgotten the better.

The amiibo craze was fricking batshit insane and put people who just wanted cheap and decent enough looking figurines of their favorite characters (some of which barely ever got official merch like Ness, Shulk, Captain Falcon) through a living hell.
    >scalpers buying them all up instantly
    >entire shelves being cleared out in hours
    >websites selling out between page reloads
    >exclusivity deals that only fricked people trying to buy them over (america only, of course)
    >so many people trying to buy the gamestop exclusive ness at once wound up breaking gamestop, not just the website, but the physical stores had their systems fricked up
    >a truck in the UK containing splatoon amiibos got stolen and GAME had to cancel preorders
    >the fact i was able to preorder dedede and import ness from the UK was pure luck
Then they massively overproduced Animal Crossing amiibos for that shitty Wii U game and killed the craze. It was nice being able to just casually hear about K Rool getting an amiibo and preordering it off Amazon without any urgency or issues.
I hate scalper homosexuals so much it's unreal

I liked the idea of a collectible nintendo card thing thats linked with a video game, but they only did it for animal crossing which I really dont care much
Even if they had no nfc functionality and was just cardboard with a qr code would be nice, since I could collect them and keeping them would be much easier rather than actual small toys that required shelf space.

For whatever reason the non villager animal crossing amiibo that were tied into amiibo festival didn't sell and got heavily discounted. The best time to pick up a bunch (at least in the US) was when Toys R Us went bankrupt and they were slashing prices by at least 50%.

They had a really shitty and bad plans with how many units where made per character and in general and they also had no real interactions in the games like they advertised outside smash so selling a shitty gimmick was a bad move
