Something incredibly rare happened. Their competitors didn't frick up this time, so Sony didn't have an easy win. Think about it:

>Nintendo refuses to switch to CDs so a lot of pouplar devs switched to Playstation
>Sega Saturn turned out to be shit
>PS2
>Everyone else refuses to acknowledge DVDs rising popularity giving them an instant advantage
>It was also easy as frick to pirate for so it was everyone's first pick
>Dreamcast flops hard
>Gamecube barely makes it gets beaten by Xbox but nowhere near the PS2
>PS3
>They starting to show they have no clue how to put up with actual competition
>MS gets a head start with the 360
>Wii brings casuals to the industry and destroy both consoles in sales
>PS4
>MS turned destroys the xbox brand by turning it into a streaming and spyware service instead of a games console
>Nintendo tries new gimmicky controller without any proper 3rd party support and it flops hard

Their luck run out this gen and they know it. They're transitioning to PC, releasing all their games for PS4 and stabbing their consumers in the back at every turn.
Toyama and Shuhei Yoshida still talk. Both mention that modern gaming doesn't have as much freedom as they did in the 90s but they sure as frick crunched like motherfrickers back then. Indie devs are basically the 90s studio system without a safety net of a publisher.

lol nah it's the return of the 360 days. Xbox is serious about being competitive and Sony is busy sniffing their own farts like with the PS3. The Bethesda purchase will become a much bigger problem for Sony than you think, especially when the next TES starts getting marketed.
