As I've gotten older, I've been less and less interested in being tethered to my desk or to the TV to play games. There are still discussing games or situations where I will do so but it's becoming less frequent and I find myself wanting to play games AND watch TV or hang out in the same room as my wife or play in bed. Handhelds let me do this. I don't get them so I can play them in public. I get them so I can play and do something else at the same time. They also come in handy when traveling so I have something to do on the plane or in the hotel room during downtime, but that's more a bonus than the point for me. Either way, your view of handhelds and their benefits is pretty fricking narrow and even if somebody does busy one out on the bus or whatever, why do you fricking care? How does it affect your life? Why does it make them look like a dork to you when they clearly don't care about what you think? What is even the point of this occupying any space in your head to wonder about who would do that or why?

I'm one of these people. My last console was the PS3, I never felt the need to buy another one after I built my first gaming PC in 2009.
Up until now, I bought every single portable Nintendo console, from the Game Boy Color to the Switch. Will I buy the Switch 2, now that the Deck exists? Probably not.

As someone who has played both, yeah I would. Having to manage your inventory weight to pick up items can frick off, being sent back to my stash so I can keep having fun instead of fricking around in menus is too good to pass up.
Ganker has an unhealthy hatred of remakes, sometimes the QoL wins out over moronic decisions about visuals or sound design. Of course when all you do is see pictures, it's easy to think that the Remaster has nothing to offer.

Anon, the first party games are what people buy Nintendo systems for with third party games being tertiary add ons so to speak. Those first party games cause people to buy more third party games between first party releases which is why you see higher third party sales on the switch than on pc.

I'm happy for the Steam Deck because I get to play all non-Switch Nintendo games at their highest quality on a handheld, and hopefully developments to Yuzu will make more Switch games perform at a playable level in the coming years.

Now having a competitor, they're forced to make greater efforts to improve their next round of hardware and/or lower their prices. The Deck is a win for everyone.

The implication is that the vita emulator is better when the reality is that it is currently the worst N64 emulator to date while the NSO one after the updates is now one of the better ones.
Vita emulator is better though. In fact every single NES, SNES and N64 game runs better on the Vita than whatever third rate emulator they have you play a sub fee for on the Switch, and on top of that they have a ton of extra control, graphics and game settings options.

The screenshot you posted is correct they are different machines that can't be compared and storage is definitely an issue unless you plan to play indies exclusively since AA and AAA games have large file sizes especially compared to console and no developer is going to optimize for the deck.
These numbers line up with my experience, so where is the lie? I know switch have 4.3k mAh battery and the only source about deck battery I found say 5.2k mAh.

What are these twitter trannies talking about? I'm usually lucky to get over 3 1/2 hours in most games. You can only get battery life over 5 in old ass games like oblivion. The SoC can only pull like 3W total to get that kind of battery life. Any more than that and the time rapidly goes down.

By whose authority can you not compare the two? Give a single good reason why people should be barred from comparing two pieces of hardware with similar formats, similar layout and similar use-cases.

I live in Tokyo and am commuting all over town everyday. I fricking never see a single fricking nip carrying a switch or steam deck around. Playing games on their phones, yes all the time, but no one is carrying around a Switch
