I don't know what their deal is with social media in general, but the X thing sounds more like a result of Elon's money-grubbing. They want a lot of dosh for API access these days. It's why mobile games stopped using them for account linkage.

            Anonymous

Most companies with paid APIs will have free tiers for smaller amounts of calls that benefit them. ie, a third party mobile app that are very good and brings in more users (like old reddit apps), or fan websites that make services that improve engagement (like Steam achievement tracking or World of Warcraft collection management websites) or they make special exceptions for companies who use their API to drive up user engagement but otherwise likely wouldn't be willing to pay for it (A lot of non-malicious bot services like Discord aggregators and Twitch hooks, or in this case game consoles having integrated tweet buttons for instant video/picture sharing)

Musk is moronic so he eschews both in an attempt to maximize money grubbing and instead just loses more service integrators.

              Anonymous

Or maybe he found out these 'service integrators' weren't actually causing any noticeable increase in userbase so he stopped the free ride. i imagine tons of people just use it to dump screenshots.

You postulation is fundamentally flawed because you ascertain he is making a wise business decision when his entire history at twitter has proven to be the total opposite at all turns. It also had certain exclusive benefits like the tab where blue checks could filter their mentions to only see other blue checks which is what started the perception that it was a secret club. It always should've been just a way to confirm at a glance that when @mcdonalds_2 tweets gay pornography it probably isn't affiliated with the company. It got kind of moronic even before musky decimated it, but decimating it only makes it worse because it served an essential purpose.

Checkmarks were always completely moronic. It was just a way for twitter employees to network. You could have millions upon millions of regular viewers but if you didn't know a guy at twitter you weren't getting a checkmark.

                Anonymous

The need for a checkmark is essential. People need to know who's who and the alternative would be a third party addon that basically reinvents DNS but for verifying usernames.

Bots are EVERYWHERE now, and it's beyond the simple "free sexo" and cryptoscammers. There are a lot of blue checkmark bots stealing popular comments and reposting them under the same tweet, and if you dig deep enough you can find actual bot ecosystems where they type some chatGPT bullshit and reply to each other to generate revenue. There's also a LOT more triggerbots, so much that it became a meme. You can easily get about a hundred bots under your post if you type enough keywords.

The difference is you haven't given out your Twitter password. You log directly into Twitter and Twitter authorizes some other entity to post screenshots on your behalf. You can also revoke this access whenever you want. The API is basically a way to give other entities (like Nintendo) access to various things on your Twitter. For example an app could request ONLY write-access so all it can do is post screenshots but can't scrape your friends list or read anything you posted manually (I don't know if Twitter actually does this, it's just an example of something you can do with API access).
I think this used to be free on Twitter, but on X they started charging for it.

No it isn't lmao, it's just a differently shaped forum. Stop putting stupid bells and whistles on your software then whining when it falls apart.

Is it a legal requirement for companies to say "X (formerly Twitter)"? Honestly, it kills the character count

It's partially because the general population is more familiar with the term Twitter, and because X is a stupid name. Also it makes Elongated Muskrat seethe

    >Splatoon 2's plaza posts are being removed for good

A shame, I used it a lot. But you can at least transfer the images and vids to your phone and post them that way.

This. I used my Twitter account to dump PS5 and Switch screenshots but it's no longer necessary when the Playstation phone app does it for you and the Switch smartphone can take 10 screenshots. I wish Nintendo had a better solution, like cloud storage you can pickup screenshots off a phone like Sony, but its better than nothing with QR phone transfers.

The supposed best company in all of gaming according to some spergs on Ganker. Once again removing something. I never used this feature (Or Nintendo products) but it's pretty gay how Nintendo keeps getting away with removing stuff while making their shitty products more expensive.

    holy based
we need less features like this, I don't want to link up to all the social media sites.
I would rather just use nintendo's own forums.

Good for Splatoon 3 since now I don't need to have a social media account linked just to use the graffiti post box, but lazy (and expected) to just remove the functionality in Splatoon 2.

If they killed Miiverse to save money on hosting and maintenance because 99% of users were using twitter or facebook, it's ironic.

I don’t get this seething of twitter, why not make your own with blackjack and hookers or move on to another site instead of constantly b***hing about it
