The real Kingdom hearts showed up in three, others were man made. It’s basically the afterlife where all hearts go to when they naturally die. It’s neutral and can be used for good or evil.
I imagine it’ll be a world in the final game but for now we got the kh3 moon

Kingdom Hearts is the manifestation of all (or at least a significant portion of) the power of all the hearts in the universe. It's literally, practically just God, but there are several different ways of summoning it or partial manifestations of it. Generally, people want it because you can use its power to essentially break reality itself.

It represents the ultimate form of light and darkness, embodying the hearts of all worlds and people. It is the essence of all hearts combined and is said to hold immense power and wisdom.

And people like Ansem, Seeker of Darkness and Xemnas seek to control Kingdom Hearts for its power. Master Xehanort desires to use it to forge the χ-blade and start a new Keyblade War to reshape the universe according to his vision. And Sora, along with his friends, aim to protect it and ensure that its power is used for the good of all worlds.

Is it wrong to look at heartless/nobodies as id and superego or is that just giving more credit than is actually due

        Anonymous

        way more credit.
Nobodies are the antithesis of id ego and superego, they are emotionless creatures that rely on past experience and examination of others to know how to act emotionally. They have no soul, literally soulless, by the game's admission.
Possibly it could be stretched that they're the id, and ego/superego are extracted from the heart, but I'd say that they're more like shells, the true "person" relies in the heart, which is why the whole "are nobodies even people" is such a concept in days/2.

          Anonymous

Nobodies clearly are people though, they're just autistic and slowly cultivate a personality without a heart anyway

I mean, yeah sure but it takes an exceptional period of time and they themselves are the shells that must re-grow a heart and re-learn those things. And that's ONLY the exceptional people with super powerful hearts anyway that create human nobodies.

Is it wrong to look at heartless/nobodies as id and superego or is that just giving more credit than is actually due

      So are:
Heartless = someone ripped out a persons soul and tainted it, the soul morphs into a Heartless creature
      And
Nobodies = the bodies left behind after a soul(heart) is ripped out which morph into weirdo creatures while some stay in human forms/reflections of who they were when they were whole

The way I always put it is
      Heartless = hearts without bodies
      Nobody = bodies without hearts

Is the realm of darkness an entire universe with its own worlds from other franchises?
Everytime we see the realm of darkness it's some abstract place with glowing spires and vast oceans. But if every KH game takes place in the realm of light, should their not be an equally large realm of darkness?

Is the realm of darkness inherently evil by nature? Are people there naturally evil?
People in the world of light worry about being "lost to darkness", so is the realm of darkness just KH Hell?

Was Mickey running around in Hell at the end of KH1 until Sora opened a literal door into Hell and chose to willingly stay on the Hell side with Riku?

      Anonymous

No. The realm of darkness is basically just hell. Originally it was completely isolated from the realm of light until the Keyblade war bullshit happened. Think of it like Xen in Half Life— the creatures native to it just shouldn't be fricking around anywhere else, but now they are and we're all dealing with it.

      Anonymous

Sentient creatures with hearts are entirely native to the Realm of Light, there is no analog in the RoD (at least for now; we still don't know what the deal with the entity named Darkness in KHUX is). The Realm of Light being split into multiple different "worlds" is also actually an unnatural situation that didn't used to be the case; pre-Keyblade War, it was just one gigantic world.

It's just a big rocky wasteland where all hearts lost to darkness go. Pureblood heartless like shadows and darksides come from there. When heartless eat a world's heart it goes there for a while until Sora's plot frickery somehow gets it out.

Emblem Heartless like soldiers are also a completely alien form of heartless that don't exist in the realm of darkness at all. Terranort made them and they spread through the worlds between BBS and KH1 via gummi space. I also genuinely cannot remember how Sora undarknessed the lost worlds like the Destiny Islands. It's probably just a complete ass pull because Nomura is a hack.

        Will I go there?

Only if you get eated by a heartless. There's some kind of nebulous undefined afterlife for folks who die normally.

          >Terranort made them and they spread through the worlds between BBS and KH1 via gummi space
I thought that was Ansem (the real one). Because I remember that being explained in the Ansem reports all the way back in 1.

If the WoL was once a whole world and has been fragmented into many isolated pieced, and Gummi Space is the distance between worlds, then does actual space exist? How did the Stitch world work in BBS? Was it just a "world" in the form of space? Or is each world in a pocket dimension and Gummi Space is the "space between spaces"? What happens if you go into space on a world? Is it like Spelljammer logic for world travel?

The keyblade gliders exit worlds by just flying up, and the stars in Traverse Town's sky are explicitly other worlds, so I'm assuming each world is as big as its skybox. Fly out of the skybox and you get to gummi space.

More or less. At their basest:
heartless = heart, contorted by darkness.
There are two subdivisions of heartless. Pureblood (manifestations of darkness, this is things like the little guys called shadows, and any monster that you don't see an emblem on, generally just pure darkness. Emblem monsters (The ones with the logo) are actually manufactured and are more tinkered with.

nobody = strong willed person's body, left behind after their heart is removed (For any reason) and contorted.
How strong willed that person is can create humanoid nobodies (IE creatures like org xiii) but MOST just end up as monsters.

      Anonymous

      Close, but not quite.
Basically, A native to the Realm of Light in KH consists of the Heart, the Mind/Soul, and the Body. Hearts consist of (aside from a few select cases) mostly light with a touch of darkness, as is natural. There are two kinds of Heartless; the first are Purebloods, which are born naturally in the realm of darkness. They're driven to strong hearts, primarily because taking a person's heart allows them to reproduce using the darkness within. Artificially created heartless are "Emblem" heartless, and are more or less created by using a heart as a battery for a shell of darkness.

If a person's heart is consumed by Darkness (something that generally only happens due to heartless attacks or otherwise unnatural influxes of Darkness) then the body and mind typically fade away with it. However, people with a strong mind/soul can keep their body at least somewhat stable. Most people end up "lesser" nobodies, still sentient but with warped forms, while the upper echelon end up looking more or less the same as humans. Given enough time and stimuli, nobodies can "regrow" their hearts, but they can also be recompleted as human faster by killing the Heartless and Nobody.

Odd exceptions to this system include:
Princesses of Light (and ventus) who have no natural darkness within their hearts. Their minds are fully attached to their hearts and their bodies simply go inert when their hearts are removed, but they also won't fade to darkness like normal people.
Sora is briefly a light-side Heartless due to shit than happens in KH1, where he technically lacks a body from HB1 all the way to the start of KH2.
Roxas is a nobody who starts without any functional memory of his time as Sora due to Sora recovering his mind while Roxas was forming, resulting in him developing as a wholly separate person.
Lingering will is a Mind/Soul who possessed a suit of armor out of sheer anger.
      Namine is ????????????????????

        Anonymous

namine is pretty heavily implied to be some fricking weird sora/kairi hybrid nobody, right? they never spell it outright but their hearts probably got intertwined hard enough in kh1 that when sora turned into a heartless and created a nobody, kairi technically did as well.

          Anonymous

She was born when Sora's heart was inside Kairi so yeah theres a mishmash effect going on which is why she's kind of an aberration as far as they go

          Anonymous

Pretty much, but everything surrounding Namine is ultra-vague and confusing and the games outright acknowledge that she completely breaks the rules of the setting in every possible way. Essentially, the whole issue is that Princess of Heart should never be able to produce nobodies because their hearts can't fall to darkness, so when Kairi's heart gets separated her body just goes inert. But being in Sora's heart when he deliberately sacrifices himself basically just breaks all known laws of the universe, so reality freaks out and bullshits up a nobody for Kairi despite the fact that there's no body or mind to create one with.

Basically, every really fricked up inconsistency about this system can be kind of traced back to the insanity that was KH1.

Why are lesser nobodies created in the shape, theme, and servitude of human nobodies?

If I lost my heart and got turned into a Samurai Nobody, why would I be at the beck and call of the nobody of some kid I've never met?

They snap and nobodies come calling.
One even calls Rucksack "my liege" in KH2.
