Yeah. At first you'd think you have to build up, collect resources and prepare a reasonable army. But then the enemy shows up with an insanely strong number of monsters and destroy all your progress until you can't do shit anymore.
What i found out with the autists playing this, is that you need to minmax like an autist with your heroes and do everything as fast and humanly possible, because the enemy always builds itself much faster than you and will destroy your game if you don't destroy it before it can get strong.
It's a bit annoying tbh, because i wanted to chill more and build up more. But if you do, you lose. The second game specially is 10x more unfair when it comes to this.
I love everything about this game, but you can't relax.

It's Easy, unless you purposefully select the hardest difficulty where AI cheats.
You just need to play it and get a hang of it.
Download it on you phone and play there to get gud.

I am still going to give it a shot in case OP is moronic, but I am just a bit more skeptical now. I already know to do one stacks based on videos online.

            Anonymous

OP is moronic. Don't hesitate to learn the basics on easy difficulty and get to higher difficulties later, but the stuff OP is describing only happens on meme maps or if you play poor enough that the enemy just gets to snowball you.

Start with Large Maps to play on. Smaller maps increase in difficulty as the enemy is next door.

It's a pretty good game nonetheless, but what i described in the earlier post is exactly how most of it goes. The more advanced the scenario, the more it applies.
Still, HoMM 3 is easier and more fair than HoMM 2 for example, which is close to impossible sometimes, despite also being a pretty good game.
It is fairly well known how some people like to learn how to break AI to win. Look up Seeth's reviews on ti and you'll see. It describes these games perfectly.
Once you get the upper hand on your enemy, it will cripple them to the point you can relax, but in the beginning, you have to move fast or you'll be the crippled one, and it's very unlikely to recover.
I am not a specialist on it like most autists people this, but i finished most campaigns, and this was my experience.

I think some things that are a bit hard to understand at first is having a bunch of weak scouting heroes and that buying/upgrading all units is not always a good idea.

It seems hard for you because you don't know how to beat neutral monsters with minimal forces and are turtling whereas you should be beating neutrals and grabbing all the shit on the map. Use stacks of 1 creature as shields for your power stack or to force enemy to waste retaliation damage. Just analyze what you're doing every turn. If you notice that you're just sitting near your town waiting for day 1, you should git gud and train to fight neutrals

Kinda but not really. Winning in Heroes is all about abusing the AI, you can't win by playing fair.

        Anonymous

There is no cheese other than meme stuff like digging holes around your castles, what he calls "cheese" is actually just skillful play.

          Anonymous

The game is literally all about abusing the AI limitations, like using stacks of 1 creature to block enemies and to tank their hits so your main stacks don't take any losses
That's not skillful, it's abuse of a dumb AI and the game is unplayable without this

Learn how and when to wait during combat, and you can whittle down the enemy army with your shooters before they reach your army, making it pretty easy to win battles with zero losses. There's a lot of other stuff to figure out, but that might be the most important tip to minimize your losses and keep your momentum.

Basically you build up and your spells will be the thing that saves your ass. Each faction has it's own strats to it. Once you unlock spells to teleport and more, you just win. It isn't like other games where you can use magic to stun lock parts of the map to win, but you can get strong enough with your hero to instakill a lot. Level up your Hero the most and mostly use armies to protect the hero and your main base,

Don't play on Hard, the AI cheats on that mode.
