On GoG Galaxy you can get steam, origin, xbox and other libraries to appear. If you connect them you gain functionalities like friends lists and the ability to install but I would imagine gog just opens the launchers in the background and runs what you ask for through them, so it's not like a backup. But if steam dies and the world hasn't ended, it's not unlikely that CD PRojekt would be like, "hey guys, let's get the entire pc consumber base," and they have a foot in the door to build from.
Memes aside, truly doubt Steam is going anywhere any time soon. Legally, its doing fine. Financially, its a fucking money printer. It may have server issues occasionally, but I think a major catastrophic world changing event will have to occur for steam to disappear.
