The same as XM8, it will be in maybe 1 game and disappear. Ah, Ghost Recon 2 how I miss thee

      Never gonna be adopted.

Fully depends on if they actually switch to it or it gets shelved after a few years as well. Based on it being a more simple concept (get a reliable rifle in a caliber better than 5.56) as opposed to the OICW program which revolved around "smart" grenade launchers built into the service rifle.

It's more about the scope and the longer range/harder hitting bullet. America wants to stay one step ahead of potential enemies. Drones haven't yet been used in a peer vs peer war but the world's already seen how lethal and useful they can be in the armenian/azberjani and ukraine war. A gun with a smart scope that can display targeting advice for moving/long distance targets, a round that can reliably disrupt heavier drones, paired with gear like the IVAS that can overlay the position of enemy drones on a soldier's view, essentially gives every basic infantryman a significant non-zero chance against enemy drones, especially if shooting one as a team.

It's actually officially designated the M7 now, not the M5 anymore, for legality reasons

I heard something about that but refused to believe the world could be this awfully moronic and obtuse.

They got cucked by the Colt M5 Carbine trademark and gave up. It's the XM7 at the moment, you can look it up yourself if you want

I wonder why the new cod has the M250 as the "RAAL"" ingame but doesn't have the M7.

Yeah I believe you I just can't believe the mighty US government couldn't use prior established precedent of rifle naming conventions to just tell Colt to frick off. It's not like it's even a trademark or anything, it's literally just a system of naming equipment.

Dunno if it actually gets adopted then it'll be everywhere. Looks too futuristic for my taste tbh.

They could just use another letter like B1 and B2.

It's about to be the main gun in the US military is it not?

It's already a mod in ARMA 3. There will inevitably be milsim or fps games that will feature it alongside US soldiers. A generation of kids will grow up with the M4 platform looking antiquated to them. I can't think of any reason why the MIC, Sig Sauer, the US Gov/Mil, wouldn't want the gun to get free advertising in games like call of duty. For more general pop culture, once US troops start deploying with shit like the XM5, IVASS, the new helmet etc., things like TV or movies will also change and by that point pop culture will make the change to showing the M5 (not the XM5 anymore) over the M4.

The RM277 bullpup performed great but they are autistic and didn't offer an LMG variant for the army. They said frick it and slapped on a bipod. Plus I don't think the U.S. army would ever allow soldiers to be retrained for firing and reloading bullpups

Shame, because the plastic cartridges was such a smart and revolutionary solution

wow non descriptive tan rifle #304040
let me guess this one fires 7.8mm hauss-Black personmore at 4000 meters per second with a 5 second group at 30 feet, and the muzzle device provides 6% more efficient thermal signature at sea level

      >a 6.8mm put under such high pressure it might as well be called 6.8MAG
      >classified optics with sensors that practically does all the calculations and aiming for you
      >3D-printed suppressor means the gun will not blow your eardrums over time as easily as an M4 while being inexpensive enough to supply to every rifle and not even hit you in the face with ANY backblast
      >attachments are default to every rifle, not optional like getting handed someone's old ACOG from storage and told "good luck"
Really, people only hate it because it reminds them of the M14

Honestly not too far off, ammo could feasibly be upgraded with a JDAM-like kit allowing for mild adjustments to trajectory.
