PAL version also runs at slower framerate which means the framerate dips on PS2 aren't felt so bad.
I imagine it doesn't matter on PS3, just saying

cause I never felt like the game chugged that badly despite what americans say but of course PAL is probably the reason for that

The PAL version of SotC has a 60Hz mode.

Explain how stabbing the giants isn't a quicktime event. Because it doesn't show the button prompt on the screen? It's literally mechanically the same as any other qte, press a button within a short window of time before the chance passes.

Alright. Fine. It's not a quick time event because you're pressing a button to ready a stab, and then pressing it again to stab the colossus before he tries shaking you off, forcing you to hold on and waste time.

This is no different than pressing a button to punch a guy in the face before he punches you in a beat em up. This is no different than stabbing a boss in most Zelda games after you hit them with the dungeon item to expose their big glowing "frick me" point. This is no different than pressing a button to shoot a projectile in Galaga before one of the diving aliens crashes into you. So how about you explain how THOSE segments in vidya are not quick time events?

When you think about games like you do all games are quick time events, what are the battles in every RPG games if not quick time events going by your definition? Let's go all the way back to NES, SMB is a quicktime event game as you have to press one button to approach a pitfall and press another at the right time to make sure Mario jumps over it!

When you select a spore you're locked in a set position with only one course of action to progress the game. You have to create a creature to pass the screen. There's only one way to spore a creature.

                Anonymous

False. Spore provides unique outcomes depending on player input. I can create an entirely different creature from my friend who plays the game, and he'll create a entirely different creature from his friend, and so on. SotC, even if you can prove on some technicality that it isn't a true qte (you haven't), the point is that it functions identically to one. I can play DmC for example, and fight Vergil in a million different ways, and I can achieve the goal of defeating him in a million different ways. I can replay SotC a million times and I'll beat every monster the same way every time. Because SotC is fundamentally uninterested in offering unique interactivity to it's players. SotC wants to thrust it's pseudo intellectual homosexualry deep into your throat and give you as little freedom as possible. Even when compared to a rudimentary NES game like SMB, it pales. I can choose how to traverse the level. I can choose whether or not to use warps. I can choose to kill enemies or not. SotC offers virtually no choice. Climb up the designated path of fur on the monster and press the stab button. A quicktime event in every way. Ueda is a hack homosexual that couldn't make movies or write literature so he settled for the medium of video games where he could be viewed as a big fish in a small pond by redditors who pat themselves on the back for playing "deep thought provoking" moviegames. What if you killed giant monsters but...and here's the twist...YOU were actually the monster all along! Ah yes video games truly CAN be art! Thank you le epic brilliant intellectual Japanese man!

              >Even when compared to a rudimentary NES game like SMB, it pales. I can choose how to traverse the level
But you are wrong though. Positioning is important is SotC. You do more damage depending on where you stab, the closer to the center of a hit mark the more damage you do if I'm not mistaken. And most importantly there are spots on the colossi that you can grab onto/just stand on which will greatly lessen the risk of being shaken. Why does this game make you so mad anyway? I'm not even sure if you genuinely dislike it or are new and take your 'opinions' from Ganker and share them on a completely different board for no apparent reason
              >Ueda is a hack homosexual that couldn't make movies or write literature so he settled for the medium of video games where he could be viewed as a big fish in a small pond by redditors
This literally sounds like a bot argument regurgitated by people on Ganker who don't even like videogames but say 'clever' shit to sound cool. This is way more pseud than the pseudest of Team Ico fans
But if you want to truly know, I think most of the fans of this game are like me: I don't give a shit about the symbolism (if there even is any) and 2deep4u shit, I just really like the art style and OST. Literally all anons with whom I've discussed Ico and SotC here are the same

Keep playing the PS3 port. It's really more of a PS3 game that was released early on the PS2, nothing worth looking in that direction.

I mean I'm already a big fan the game and played it numerous times on the PS3. I got myself a PS2 recently and just got done replaying Ico so I figured I'd replay SotC too

It's weird how two people can have completely different views on the same subject. I mostly play 80s and 90s games and find Ico's and SotC's minimalism reminiscent of those. So when people here compare them to modern movieshit and bloated open-world RPGs, I just have to disagree

I am not certain of the differences between the PAL and NTSC versions, but the NTSC PS2 version has pretty bad performance during certain colossus fights. Though the draw distance works in its favor when you're exploring the forbidden land so you don't see things pop in the distance.

PAL version fixes some bugs and adds in a couple of little touches.
It’s the most complete version of the two.
It’s for that reason the PS3 port was based on it

Done. I've noticed that there are some effects that are not present in the PS3 version, it's obviously still the same game but the original resolution + draw distance give this game that nice dreamlike atmosphere that makes the PS2 version look better overall for me personally. But that framerate though, it's just painful at times. So overall I'd say both versions are equally good but I have to admit the HD port feels better to actually play

      Anonymous

A lost of these HD ports had some lighting effects missing, I suppose it was because they don't work in 3D, so instead of finding a way to toggle it off in the 3D mode they just removed it entirely.
I think this game in particular would look awesome in 3D, wish I could've snagged up a 3D Plasma back then

        Anonymous

The 3D on these HD ports is alright, noticeable at least. Not great 3D like the new Helix Mod fixes on nvidia 3D Vision hardware. The PS3 3D library is very poor compared to what is out there and playable in 3D today.

Check the facebook marketplace for cheap 3DTV's, got a 63" Samsung plasma for $80 and works perfectly only 10 mins away.

I played NTSC first and I prefer the lack of slow motion when you land the killing blow on a colossus.
