      Games with a comfty atmosphere.
Since this thread's shit, might as well say this. Atmosphere > gameplay, but gameplay contributes to the atmosphere. If a game can nail down a good atmosphere it will make up for so much shortcomings: that's why people like Sonic Adventure 1/2, despite so much of the game being filler shit, because the Sonic parts (despite eh, being kinda hard to control) have great atmosphere.

a lot of friend simulation types. p3 reload has been going well. looking forward to rebirths release on pc.

I really liked Paradise Killer, bought a key for about a buck. It was exactly what I needed, a gorgeous pseudo-vaporwave setting to explore for days at my own pace with no fail states whatsoever and in which to collect completely useless tchotchkes with amusing and bizarre flavor text. Even the investigation/VN aspect can't be failed, both because the conversations also have no fail states (just exhaust every conversation and that's it) and because there's no set plot; effectively, you decide what the crime entailed based on how much evidence you found.

Pretty much. I recently tried path of exile because grinding numbs the mind but it performs horribly on my PC when too much happens. Mind numbing is good but the combination of brainfog and laggy gameplay makes me feel like I am losing it so I haven't played anything in a week or so.

Any game because playing video games in general is one of the easiest things to do in life.
Even if you're depressed. It takes more effort to watch a movie. This is why games don't need easy modes.

Not true. Getting myself to start a game and not shutting it down 15 minutes in takes a lot of effort.

Exanima and Factorio filled a lot of time for me, but I'm content starved on both for now. I try playing them from time to time, but I'm just going through the motions instead of taking in new experiences and thinking of new ways to do things.
I considered Stellaris as I've had good times with that before, but seeing the new rent-a-DLC system pissed me off so much I uninstalled it right away.
All that's left right now is War Thunder which stresses me out and gives me a headache but at least I feel something.

Just high effort enough to keep you engaged, but low effort enough to keep you playing for 14 hours a day.

I spent many years like this. I'll probably go back to the game one day, I always go back. Maybe I'm only not playing it because I'm not currently depressed.
It's also a good mix of nostalgia and familiarity, you can always go back and do what you were doing in 2006. OSRS is there for you.
