this guy threw me off the series. everytime he showed up i was left wondering if i had met him before, and who he was. such a fricking boring looking character, i see what theyre going for, but in a game with about a thousand other random npcs you cant interact with that look just like him made it confusing.

So did the devil really turn his heart to stone the moment you made the pact? That's kind of what I got from the story.
Because then none of it was really his fault.

He became unable to feel, not unable to think.
He should have realized that killing iris' father and confining her to that house with 3 unholy servants wasn't a good idea.
He chose to spread all that misery and suffering. He might not have chosen the exact manner of his immortality, but he chose how to use it.

        Anonymous

That's a good point. I kind of understood that the devil compelled him to do those things, but maybe it's better to assume he just took away his capacity to feel remorse.
Iirc the only negative trait they mention Olgierd had before he made that pact is that he was jealous of his brother.

          >Olgierd had before he made that pact is that he was jealous of his brother.
          That's the wrong way around.
          Vlodomir(?) was jealous of Olgierd.

            Anonymous

It's been a while, I remember him thinking that his family favored his older brother over Olgierd, that's why he resented him.

              Anonymous

Ehhh not him, but I think it was the opposite. Olgierd always tells you his little brother Vlodomir was brave and skilled (to honor him after death), but in reality, Vlodomir was a cowardly moron that was jealous of Olgierd.

Olgierd is the older brother too.

Gaunter didn't do anything to Olgeird other than make him immortal. He always had a "heart of stone", he was a murdering highwayman even before he was immortal. Gaunter just gave him enough to let him ruin his own life and see the consequences of his actions. Anyone who would willingly make a deal that involves sacrificing your own brother is already an butthole at heart.

You have to admit, putting him in the main game as a seemingly inconsequential character - and one of the first ones you meet - was pretty good writing.

Based moron. All they did was pick a random throwaway NPC and make him a big deal in DLC. They could have done the same thing with that girl with a big ass in the tutorial area. The one with the little herb shop. You know who I'm talking about.

Herb shop lady will be the main antagonist in TW4 after she finds out Ciri killed her soldier dad in self defense in Novigrad

        Anonymous

Nah Gaunter gets way too much focus in the opening to be just a random throwaway NPC, he's got a unique high quality model and voice actor for a guy you have 1 conversation with. That Herbalist should have come back at some point though for the same reason, White Orchard has a lot of effort put into it that doesn't always get reflected in the rest of the game when it comes to that sort of detail.

Dude gets even less focus than herb shop lady and the Polish Gaunter voice actor voices several other characters in the game. English one voiced a lot of randoms in TW2

Shame they didn't. She was criminally underutilized.

The points where roads cross are fricking plagued with spooky shit. At least if you're not American where the intersection-based planning would mean you'd have to have a spooky haunting every twenty metres or something.
Anyway I digress, where two roads cross is some spooky shit. The English have a thing about it, the Scottish too (though both have mostly forgotten, but there's legends like the crossing at long melford) and the balkan states can't fricking shut up about their crossroads, in which devils are the feature rather than spooks.

Meet at a crossroad and the devil will come to bargain. He will promise to make the impossible possible and probably ruin your life. The more djinn-like clauses aren't usually part of that, they'll usually just frick you up for asking for stupid shit.

So who is Gaunter O'dimm? I'm seriously asking I don't play video games.

Gaunter is literally the Devil of the Witcher world.
Not some random demon or evil spirit, we're talking about almost God tier (and God might have abandoned that world, assuming he ever cared for it or existed at all in the first place) incarnation of evil. Although he's clearly a reflection of evil commited by humanity rather than the cause of it, and his deals are always honest.
