In this thread we list things that make Dark Souls 2 the best Souls game. I'll start:
>Non-linear 1st half of the game allows you to go straight to the areas that contain the items for your build
>Drinking Estus immobilizes you, and the heal isn't instantaneous meaning trying to drink while someone is sticking close to you will result in death
>Stamina regen is tied to weight, so a character at 10% burden will recover their bar faster than a character at 70% burden, giving a reason to make a low burden character
>Poise is relevant and armor provides notable but not OP damage reduction, giving a reason to make a high burden character
>Phantoms and Dark Spirits can't drink estus, spirits can only heal via spell usage. This makes fighting outnumbered without mob assistance possible since any damage you do sticks
>Can continue your playthrough after beating the last boss and can choose when to start NG+
>NG+ has new enemies/items/events and some remixed bosses
>Parrying has longer recovery frames and consumes more stamina, making parry fishing riskier and makes parrying require higher skill
>Power stance allows for unique combinations of dual wielding and unlocks an alternative moveset
>Being able to use the full moveset of a weapon in your off-hand including running, rolling, backstepping, etc. attacks rather than just being able to do a basic R1 swing and blocking with the weapon as it is in DS3
>Bell Tower covenant providing two unique areas to PvP for Titanite Chunks, Slabs, and Twinkling, making farming for upgrades fun
>Bonfire ascetics to replay bosses and or gain items from NG+ without going through the game again
>No bonfire and no death challenge where you can beat the game without resting at a bonfire or dying to gain a reward
>Best build variety, effectively pull off any build you want
>Best online and covenants, best QoL in the series
>Most diverse environments, replayability, customization, weapons, armors, magic/miracles/hexes/pyros
>game that tries to be Dark Souls without understanding what made the first game truly great in the first place
this game is like a Chinese knock-off that duped thousands into believing it’s the real thing
Good. Imagine being so stupid as to try and avoid an attack during your recovery frames. Kek.
This only reinforces my theory that people hated DkS2 because of their own refusal to adapt.
The base game is a rollercoaster of disappointment. >Woah, this Heide place is sick >Wait, it's fucking empty >Woah, a cool covenant PVP area, it's like Darkroot Garden if it was fun to fight in >Wait, SIX gargoyles? Is this a joke? >Woah, the abyss is hidden behind a secret covenant, what will lighting these giant beaziers do? >Who is this Diablo-looking motherfucker? >Wait, why do I have to kill every single enemy every single time I try to fight him?
And even though the DLC has higher highs, the lows are still low >The upper level of Shulva is great as are the bosses >Gank squad >Fume Knight and Sir Alonne are great boss fights >Brume tower fucking sucks >Burnt Ivory King's boss fight is the defining peak of the game >Frozen wastes
DS2 just can't be JUST good, it always has to fuck it up
I'm good at the game, and even enjoyed it somewhat. Yet I'll still say that it's mid at best, and fucking awful when compared to the games either side of it.
Because the enemies actually do things, the levels are way more challenging, diverse, actual depth and character customization, and the gameplay is more than just hitting the iframe button at the right time. But apparently that's not as important as elevators and item description. I don't know.

Sounds like you're just bad at the game. Which is everyone who says ds2 is bad.

But one of those enemies would still be stronger individually than any ds1 enemy?

You just outed yourself, anon. Try playing the games before posting about them.
the community in this game, all the way from release, to months after the dlc was insane, the multiplayer was the best it's ever been and still hasn't been topped, it's kind of sad
scholar was self sabotage, but the community still carried it. My first game in the series was dark souls 1, dark souls 2 gave me everything I was craving and more.
>dark souls 2 >going right
This was my first Dark Souls game ever and I deeply regret it because it may have been one of the worst pieces of shit I've ever played
I've got no idea what kinda moron you have to be to look at DS2 and say "this shit bussin fr fr no cap"
And don't even get me started on Scholar of The First Sin
And its true. The only thing that comes close was some game I played recently that clearly wanted to ape Homeworld while not understanding the gameplay of homeworld at all and also trying to tie it to a barebones turn based metagame that didn't work together with the actual game at all
>"I enjoyed the game but I recognise the many flaws that result from poor craftmanship."
The reasonable take I think, for this game and any others that are unquestionably mid.
Except it's the worst one, and they never say "it's the worst one, but it's my favorite", they think it's the best one. Like a nickleback fan who thinks it's actually great music and not a guilty pleasure. Ds2 fans are incapable of measuring objective quality.
Bloodborne is probably the best fromsoft game and we don't have 10 daily threads about it being the best, because BB fans aren't delusional and lying to themselves
>Actually feels like an adventure >Graphics still holds up for the most part >Lighting engine literally better than any subsequent game >Levels has distinct features (Bells in the Undead Crypt, torches in Gutter) >Bosses have tells, smooth weapon movements, battles feel like a dance >Lots of minor but impactful secrets >Interesting encounter design
I think the levels would have been great with some redesigned enemy and bonfire placements. Shame SOTFS didn't do much in that regard. For example, Iron Keep is such a pain in the ass. In an attempt to make it difficult and last longer, they made the encounters unenjoyable.
Many levels are designed with constant ambushes, which gets old in about one or two levels in. Risk avoidant player has means to deal with them, but playing that way is boring and consumes time.
Sir Alonne is one of the best fights in the series, but to get to that fight, you have to go through the worst designed encounters in the whole series. I can't be arsed to do that ever again, despite loving the boss.
Not for me. I like gimmick fights where you have to stop for a moment and think. Dark Souls 3 has some of those bosses but in general, it's just generic melee guys that you have to rollspam+R1 until they are dead.
For me, in terms of bosses it's ER > DeS > BB > DaS > DS3 > DS2+DLC >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> DS2
In ER bosses constantly spam you with combos, area attacks, input reading, etc so killing them requires planning.
I've spent hundreds of hours in each game in the series and DS2 is my favorite. It has the most replayability by far. I don't find myself running through it as I would on the other games' NG+ as there are many additions, and some areas are tedious and require patience. I still like the other games, but for different reasons. I like the bosses in DS3 the most; in DS2, only a few boss fights are fun (thank God for the DLCs).
Some of the DLC content is pretty good, Alonne and Fume Knight come to mind. I kind of liked the bleak but serene atmostphere of Majula, and some of the other areas at least looked cool, like Dragon Aerie. There's no doubt more things that I've just forgotten about, I've not played it in a long time. As much as I shit on the game, it does have its moments.
Actually tried new things unlike DS1 the Demon's Souls demake/rehash
Yeah, It tried new things and failed at all of them.
>Lots of variety in the early game
>meaningful gearchecks in the middle game
>meaningful skillchecks in the endgame
perfectly paced game.

>you die way more, all the items are worse, everything is harder to do, the game and your character are harder to manage
Almost everything you listed makes the game worse
Some of us like a challenge and the rpg aspects. It's what makes the game fun.
>game that tries to be Dark Souls without understanding what made the first game truly great in the first place
this game is like a Chinese knock-off that duped thousands into believing it’s the real thing
>it wasnt't having unskippable credits
This kills the DS2 fag
>shitty dodge timings.webm
I-frames begin on frame 1 of input. first frame. It's instantaneous. Impossible to fuck up. Are you playing with your feet?
Good. Imagine being so stupid as to try and avoid an attack during your recovery frames. Kek.
This only reinforces my theory that people hated DkS2 because of their own refusal to adapt.
I'm embarrassed for you.
I've really enjoyed DS2. Should I play the King's Fields games?
The freedom, non linearity, customization, gameplay, challenge
Shut the fuck up. It's shoddy craftmanship and you know it.
The base game is a rollercoaster of disappointment.

How does brume tower suck you're a fucking idiot
Griping about six gargoyles? It only gets to six if you fuck up. Take some responsibility.
>Gank
shitter buzzword.
So the problem is that you're soft and bad at the game? Wow, big surprise. These are always the people telling you DS2 is bad lmao
I'm good at the game, and even enjoyed it somewhat. Yet I'll still say that it's mid at best, and fucking awful when compared to the games either side of it.
You dont sound like you're good at the game and it's way fucking better than DS1 or 3
I don't know how is it possible to play DS1 or DS3 and think DS2 is any good
Probably because he's never actually played them. Probably never played 2 either and is just here to bait.
Because the enemies actually do things, the levels are way more challenging, diverse, actual depth and character customization, and the gameplay is more than just hitting the iframe button at the right time. But apparently that's not as important as elevators and item description. I don't know.

You have to be a gay to hold this opinion.
Only coping gays claim Dork Soles 2 is good
Dark Souls 2 players just enjoy the game
Haters on the other hand...
>"Worst thing I've ever played"
Only gays are dramatic and hyperbolic like this
And its true. The only thing that comes close was some game I played recently that clearly wanted to ape Homeworld while not understanding the gameplay of homeworld at all and also trying to tie it to a barebones turn based metagame that didn't work together with the actual game at all

Bloodborne is probably the best fromsoft game and we don't have 10 daily threads about it being the best, because BB fans aren't delusional and lying to themselves
BB is too spammy for me and the game runs like ass so I don't know I have to believe it's the best one.
>BB is too spammy
You're the one spamming
3trannies have come to shit up the thread, was fun while it lasted.

The lighting - a solid upgrade from what they showed pre-release.
Nothing
Keep trying, it's still the worst one by a mile
>4k vote counts
>IGN aka Israeli Gay morons
Bloodborne is my favorite. Dark souls 2 is such a cool fucking game. It’s like a remake of kings field 4
>ign
Lmao have a nice day you fucking peasant
I think all the Souls games are good except 3.
I don't actually believe you, anon.
Same. DS3 at least has the best online, which isn't that impressive.
It also has the best bosses of the three games.
Not for me. I like gimmick fights where you have to stop for a moment and think. Dark Souls 3 has some of those bosses but in general, it's just generic melee guys that you have to rollspam+R1 until they are dead.

2's bosses are more fun because the gameplay is fundamentally better
I've spent hundreds of hours in each game in the series and DS2 is my favorite. It has the most replayability by far. I don't find myself running through it as I would on the other games' NG+ as there are many additions, and some areas are tedious and require patience. This is the most honest post I've seen in a Dark Souls shitflinging thread
A DS2 fan who admits it has faults, it's like seeing a unicorn
Nothing. 2 is a complete embarrassment.
>from's current games cant even look this good
RTX mod?
no
The DLC content is the best in the ENTIRE SERIES
Nothing else gets me as hyped as fighting Sir Alonne or when I see the Burnt Ivory King coming out of the gate
Some of the DLC content is pretty good, Alonne and Fume Knight come to mind. I kind of liked the bleak but serene atmostphere of Majula, and some of the other areas at least looked cool, like Dragon Aerie.
