what went so wrong with doos ecks human revolution? i never hear about it anymore meanwhile the original is infinitely more memorable

good game just not very much to come back to unlike the original which has alot of mods to Hispanice it up. i wish devs would actually allow modding more often.

Not just mods, I play it once a year every year and I'm still finding new secret rooms and stashes and stuff.

Thinking deus ex was an apartment robbery simulator and thinking that anyone was actually going to read the 4000 filler emails they fill every PC with killed its lasting impact. The sequel doubled down on all this.

The hamfisted racism stuff wasn't a thing until Human Revolution, which like

Sqeenix wanted to turn Deus Ex franchise into a Game As A Service multimedia project. Remember Deus Ex: The Fail? Of course you don't nobody played it since it was just a buggy shitty appstore phone-game, but that's the route their thinking wanted to take the franchise down. if Sqeenix had had their way the second half of the story would've been in a gacha (which would EoS after 6 months) and another installation would be in an anime and another portion would be in an obscure, untranslated japanese light novel...basically the same thinking that killed Final Fantasy. Oh yeah and don't forget to augment your pre-orders because you only get bonuses for preordering if everyone else preorders, too.

mentioned, was because the corpos took control of the project.

They planned a trilogy and only made 2 games (maybe even 1.5). It's difficult to go back and enjoy HR or MD without the gnawing realisation that we'll probably never get the end of Adam's story.

Atleast HR you can treat as a complete experience. MD felt more like episode 1.

I just beat Rogue City a few minutes ago. Fuck, it was actually fun. You do gotta like the movies to get everything out of it but I know I'll return to this game whenever I get that itch to rewatch the films. Wish the motorbikers were ridable though. That would have been handy getting around in the final Downtown visit.

this game takes an insane amount of time to get going. libery island is arguably one of the best parts of deus ex and you're playing it within a few minutes of starting a new game, meanwhile human revolution goes:

    >cutscenes
    >forced walking talking section
    >extremely brief linear lab attack section
    >cutscenes
    >extremely linear and tutorialised first mission
    >cutscenes

it does pick up a bit after that but man the start is such a slog

You could interpret it like that, but it could also just be the most apparent interpretation, that people would naturally have opinions about other people with augmentations. Plus the shit about neuropazyne, pretty sure that non-whites don't need drugs to survive, unlike augs

It kept its shit too contemporary by being too close to the game's release date and had issues with game progression and build choices. Also instead of having multiple underlying themes, it just had augmentations and a much more basic surface level story

Original is just a superior game, I liked Adam himself but HR is so wildly different from Deus Ex stylistically that I have a hard time believing they share the same universe. You get a feeling playing HR that Eidos wanted to make an original universe and I think it would have been better off if they did just that.

Decent game but it's in the shadow of one of the greatest games ever made. Only really horrible part is the fact that the shooting is cover shooter gears of war garbage, but you don't even have to bother with that part so whatever.

then the game should encourage you to do something else besides shooting your problems away, like not making the act itself extremely easy to release and locking it down by providing you no ammo (up until you get to a bossfight, where the issue disappears because the game locks you in a box with a lot of guns and ammo).
the options you have to deal with enemies in stealth besides taking cover feel really limited as well: in the original you had tranq darts, the baton, throwing objects to distract enemies, the stealth mode (which was divided into stealth for living and non living enemies)..now you have a gun with extremely rare ammo and the cutscene button. and a stealth suit that has no cons to being used.
most characters that arent absolutely CORE to the story also have nothing to say, its just people going "aug good" or "aug bad", and its actually how the whole story feels, there's no themes besides "we are using augs to do good or to do bad", even the main "villain" doesnt have a reason besides "i think aug bad because it just IS ok???"

I liked it. Quite a bit to. But its pretty fucked being called Deus ex. Heard some people say the original idea was a ghost in the shell game which honestly I doubt but if this game didnt have to be called deus ex it would had been called a great game. Sadly I think the next true deus ex will not bear the name and will be some indie game.

Makes sense. the original release had stutters and they patched it fast and become buttery smooth. The DC used earlier build of the game and still has the stutter and was never fixed. You probably got the original release without patches.

I replayed the first three dx games two years ago back to back and it was good, but I really did get incredibly bored of how a lot of the game is basically long hallway sections that periodically open up into pretty easy stealth challenge sections. It was kind of jarring going from the dlc, which felt much more open and interesting like the first Deux Ex, then back to HR's hallways.
It was the one game I basically wanted to end, it felt like it went for way too long. Though perhaps since I was playing the game as a ghost and since I feel compelled to talk to every npc, hack every computer, read every book, etc, it was basically my fault.
The story was good but honestly the augmentation shit is kind of a boring topic.

      freedom.
for example, hr had outsourced boss fights that played exactly the same no matter how you entered them.
oh, did your jensen stealth in through the vents to get the element of surprise on a boss?
too bad, in the cutscene he is now walking out in the open and the boss sneaks up from behind with their invisibility cloak.

Call me a noob but my problem with the HR gameplay is that Jason is delicate as shit. It only took like 3 handgun bullets to kill you and upgrading armor doesn't help at all. The game literally forces you to stealth all the way with no option to fight your way out when you get spotted like other stealth games
