Why would you have a detailed a-life system and a free roaming playstyle... and then make it so you can't experience ANY of it?

Didn't the sequel have a Chao Garden-style area for this shit?

Yeah, but as a consequence the nightopians have no impact on the levels and it's also pretty barebones. Was kind of neat how it did made use of the Wii weather channel so that the gardens matched the weather in your local area, but that's defunct nowadays.

Really it's more of a tech demo than a full game. It's way too short.

Nothing. It's a magical game. The atmosphere is like no other. It's surprisingly deep in its gameplay systems and themes, as it borrows heavily from Jung.
If there's one game that has SOVL, that game is Nights into Dreams...

Planned to be a Xbox 360/PS3 title, then forced to be a Wii title by Sega against Sonic Team's decision. That, and making the game heavily minigame focused compared to the original.

It's also basically a remake of the original, but wasn't marketed as such.

        >Planned to be a Xbox 360/PS3 title

That sounds like a bad idea, it doesn't have enough substance to be a 360/PS3 release.

          Anonymous

It "doesn't have enough substance" because instead of developing content they had to spend a lot of time trying to get the engine and assets into a state where it wouldn't make a system with specs barely above the gamecube melt.

So you're saying had it not been a Wii exclusive, Journey of Dreams wouldn't have been a barebones remake of the original game with negligible additions?

I always found that funny when adding motion controls was one of the reasons cited back in the day, considering the motion controls for the game suck. It's basically unplayable unless you use a nunchuck or a controlpad, I always preferred a GC controller.

For a hot minute publishers thought motion controls were the secret sauce that made people buy wiis, and not the fact that it was heavily marketed and came bundled with a compilation of minigames that require zero explanation to play.

It was supposed to be a one-off, with some re-releases, not a franchise.

Literally nothing. This is the very definition of a perfect game. It’s better than Half Life, Silent Hill, Legend of Zelda, Death Stranding, Fallout, and whatever the frick your dumbass favorite game is. I say this with no irony. And anyone who says otherwise admits to being a knuckle dragging homosexual.

Nothing went wrong. A lot of SEGA's games were too technically advanced, too detailed, or too complicated (or all 3) for the current mass consumers. Even now, a vast majority of SEGA titles hold up incredibly well. NiGHTS included.
