the spacebar on my keyboard sticks, i might just plug in my controller and keep on playing the greatest game ever made; Terraria .
cannot wait for the next update, they're adding some wicked shit, like Moonlord Tentacle Whip, and a Desert Biome Boss, tell me you aren't excited. TELL ME. Black person
Major additions stopped being added and we are about to get our 4th major "quality of life" update in a row. It's just stalling development on Terraria 2.
you don't like video games. you are incapable of experiencing joy because you are consumed by the suffering caused by your neovegana. you are destined to become the troony equivalent of a Shura.

you can absolutely drown the angler, just chuck 'em in a house, flood that house, drain it so they go back in when they respawn, repeat. Hell, you could probably automate the entire process to auto-drown them every day.
What went wrong?
Who ever designed the AI for this game honestly.
All AI behaves essentially the same, they just go towards the player and damage the player on contact over and over.
There's nothing dynamic or interesting about enemies like that so it gets fricking boring.
What's worse is they give the impression that there could be different player classes like in D&D or something with ranged, melee, magic, etc, but in actuality they're all the same fricking class that just end up using ranged attacks while trying to play "dodge the enemy".
It could have been made a LOT more interesting if there were actually class differences where perhaps a stealthy class could be undetectable and backstab, or if a magic class could use magical shields or something. I'm no game designer but I can tell when a game is made boringly.
I remember back in the day when my friend entered hardmode before I did and said you had to choose a class. It made no sense. I just got all the weapons for all the classes and chopped and changed as appropriate
>What went wrong?
Magic being bad >hardest to start with (either make seed for wand of sparking or can't fight until you get a staff >worst defense >outclassed by range immediately and remains outclassed >outclassed by summoner >outclassed by melee
magic seems good later on but I don't think i'd force myself to do magic only because pre-hard mode magic gear suuuucks, and you also basically have to be a plant expert to make a million mana potions and find the stuff in the jungle that mages need and on and on.
it has its odd moments though, there is almost no point not to use the meteor gun+armor on wall of flesh, switching to the bee gun between shots.
There are a multitude of reasons why people wouldn't like Calamity, some being related to the mod itself and some just being issues independent of the mod. >primary developer is incredibly toxic and pushes away people who did good work on the mod >fanbase as well can get pretty unhinged >early versions of the mod had incredible stat inflation making using vanilla items pointless, numbers have now been toned down and you can use vanilla items fairly easily >mod encourages no hitting bosses with high enemy damage numbers and a mechanic that reduces your defense temporarily if you get hit along with killing your bonus damage gauge >out of the 27 major bosses the mod adds, 6 are worms of some form and 2 have worms as part of the boss but not the entire boss >lore items that bosses drop which add nothing to the game, only exist to develop the mod's lore (imagine caring about story in terraria) >because of it's high popularity, other mods inevitably end up being compared to it
It is quantity over quality
It adds alot of suit but not alot of it being all that great.
The mod also just in general looks and feels out of place with its different artstyle and overly edgy lore.
Your skill issue. They kept updating the game far past what they even needed to, are still updating the game, and yet they are working on a sequel whilst depleting themselves of new content.
naysayer. Terraria 2's entire shtick is to make a new engine to support content that Terraria's old engine cannot. they will absolutely add back all of Terraria's content into the sequel as well, no point not to
they drip feed updates every couple of years while proclaiming it's their last update so people like you will suck their dicks and shout about how passionate they are about their game. terraria 2 is never happening. nobody wants it anymore. the building survival genre burned out like 4 years ago
Balance patches just to kill playstyles in a single player/coop game. Just lmao.
Nerfing the reaver shark over 8 years after it's release, TWICE. Once after the first nerf only to reduce tool speed which does nothing but make players waste more time while they use it. What a fricking joke.
An entire patch containing a a frick you to the players for playing how they wanted to and had for years because oooh the devs don't like that, don't do that anymore, play our way or the highway.
And then there's fishing, which again was a playstyle for getting ore that some people used to avoid the annoyance of breaking altars. Now you still have to waste time fishing to avoid breaking altars if you want those metals, but you can only do it after hardmode is activated. What does that add? Literally nothing, it just takes away. It doesn't make the game more fun for anyone, fishing is exactly the same shit as before, just worse and arguably you can't enjoy it as early because you're wasting time doing it before HM. All they actually wanted to do was remove and nerf shit, and they give zero fricks about their players.
The most malicious additions though were the removed torch luck and remaining npc happiness, which quite literally punish you if you don't build exactly as the devs instruct. It could just be some bonus, leaving players free to use their previous building methods unhindered but they actually made it a punishment. I expect that level of domineering from matchmade multiplayer shit, not what should be a comfy solo/coop.

too much focus on bosses. not enough focus on exploration. pre-hardmore is disappointing. there should be way more reasons to explore the ice and desert undergrounds.
nothing
even 4+ years after getting this game id still rather play this than pretty much any other game
"no terraria 2" doesn't subtract from the experience of this game
Lots of fish are the main ingredient in most buff potions.
Plus doing the Angler's quests are necessary for the stuff to make the Cell Phone, but you can savescum that.
you just said its name, the 1.4 version of Terraria Overhaul is a more refined version of the 1.3 version and cuts out a lot of the autism leaving only the movement mechanics and the combat changes for them to focus on, plus it doesn't really conflict with large content mods which is nice
yep
the reworked grappling hooks actually work pretty well with the space balls Calamity has and slinging yourself around space is really good for early game traveling
Magic and summoner both have a much rougher start compared to melee or ranged. If you want to use melee weapons, you just get a few ores and craft a sword to then head to the jungle and start making the jungle weapons. For ranged you just craft a bow and get better materials, or blow up an orb and start using guns. Mage needs to find ores and gems to make a staff and has to farm fallen stars to even consistently attack. Summoner has to either get lucky and find a shitty bird, farm flinxes and get gold or platinum, or wait until a blood moon to get a summon. You also still need to go to the jungle to craft a snapthorn or wait until the zoologist arrives to purchase a whip.
Mage absolutely not, you spend 10 minutes getting gems that are all over the place whether in blocks or trees, and collect stars for 2 nights tops because they 10x the amount that fall each night in 1.4.
best parts of terraria is right at the start of the game and early hardmode
both times because it makes you explore the underground and mine shit and get fricked up by caves
the less total % of terraria is this gameplay the worse terraria is off, all the boss arena homosexualry has done nothing but ill
Or hook or stack boosts or i-frame it with Cthulhu shield, I know. The boss itself is fine, the base combat is just very questionable. My issues with the fight are my issues with almost every enemy encounter. Duke himself is fine and especially stands out when most enemies are on the same level as the starting game slimes.
They need more mechanic-based bosses. A game with all of these extra items and systems for those items and so few enemies force you to use your tools.
They made a singular game.
Earned enough money to last a lifetime.
Yet continued to update the game slowly.
The main problem is that after Moonlord... the game progression just plummets. You have nothing to do. You've beaten the game. There is no point in doing anything now.
That's why a lot of folks play with Calamity that at very least prolongs the game.
Economically nothing but I agree tbh. The game is peak prehardmode, worse but still good during the mech bosses, passable until plantera, and then nosedives into oblivion after that. As for what exactly? I think they went too gamey in the end, prehardmode feels like surviving and conquering where post plantera feels like playing.
Bloat, paired with no incentives to explore after early hardmode.
They really should've just added a hardermode that warps the world even further instead of trying to cram everything into hardmode and making annoying shit like the moon pillars.
it got boring
absolutely nothing to do for over a decade
No option to marry the best girl.
That isn't the Zoologist.
and this isn't /mlp/
Zoologist gets cured in the ending so she is mid tier at best.
Frick. I dont think I have ever been so disillusioned before. They ruined her.

calling them QoL is a stretch, the past five hotfixes to Labor of Love were nerfs
Still hate how they made so many swords worse.

Needs more NPC's, needs bigger worlds, weapon skins when, needs at least 6 more bio-themed bosses, no option to drown the angler.
you can absolutely drown the angler, just chuck 'em in a house, flood that house, drain it so they go back in when they respawn, repeat. Hell, you could probably automate the entire process to auto-drown them every day.
I meant a built in-game option to do it. Like the voodoo doll, but more personal.
nothing. i'm gonna curbstomp yo ass.

The worst part about magic is just how little damage the spells do for the mana system in place.
magic seems good later on but I don't think i'd force myself to do magic only because pre-hard mode magic gear suuuucks, and you also basically have to be a plant expert to make a million mana potions and find the stuff in the jungle that mages need and on and on.

it didnt come with the calamity mod already added to the game. also without at least one friend it sucks.
who the frick uses mods? take your transition process it /b/
the mod adds the missing half of the game
>Calamity
Calamity fricking sucks and it's basically the worst parts of terraria distilled and expanded.
Really? Every fricking place recommends Calamity as the best mod. What went wrong?
Don't listen to some random cuck, it's fine for what it is for people that want what it gives, more bosses and more grinding.
There are a multitude of reasons why people wouldn't like Calamity, some being related to the mod itself and some just being issues independent of the mod.
>primary developer is incredibly toxic and pushes away people who did good work on the mod
>fanbase as well can get pretty unhinged
>early versions of the mod had incredible stat inflation making using vanilla items pointless, numbers have now been toned down and you can use vanilla items fairly easily
>mod encourages no hitting bosses with high enemy damage numbers and a mechanic that reduces your defense temporarily if you get hit along with killing your bonus damage gauge
>out of the 27 major bosses the mod adds, 6 are worms of some form and 2 have worms as part of the boss but not the entire boss

It's one of the only mods that does a significant amount. That's it.
It is quantity over quality
It adds alot of suit but not alot of it being all that great.
The mod also just in general looks and feels out of place with its different artstyle and overly edgy lore.

This, did some fricking fanboys also move in or what?
I don't doubt it, Calamity is oversaturated and overrated with an egotistical homosexual that runs everything to top it all off.

They kept updating the game far past what they even needed to, are still updating the game, and yet they are working on a sequel whilst depleting themselves of new content.
They doubled their sales after Journey's End, "they did it without an economic incentive" is unfounded.
naysayer. Terraria 2's entire shtick is to make a new engine to support content that Terraria's old engine cannot. they will absolutely add back all of Terraria's content into the sequel as well, no point not to

I beat the game a couple of times. Always ignored fishing - what's it good for?
does the idea of fishing in a game excite you?
No, I like efficiency in finding/getting what I want and dislike luck/randomization

the devs couldnt figure out when to stop. they fricked up halfway through journey's end development. and labor of love is the failed abortion.

every update has made the game better. the problem is the game itself becoming boring after being out for so long. people are just tired of it
I hope they never stop, I'm enjoying coming back

Mechdusa is pretty neat.
