Too much focus of graphic fidelity that they forgot that they needed to make a video game first

Imagine paying so many artists and then 0 programmers so their work runs well in any PC in the planet, the triple A meme keeps on confusing the hell out of me because they spend all that much in marketing something they know not everyone will buy, should've put some of the 100000 million they spent on competent devs instead.

shit programming doesn't show up in marketing so they don't think they need it...they are just hoping on scamming people within the launch window. the thing with callisto protocol was that it was too repetitive within the first few hours and people dropped it within the refund window

Is it bad or is it a filter?
I was curious to get it, but only on sale, but the sheer shitting it received has put me in doubt.

Both. The gameplay is rudimentary enough where it sucks if the player sucks. It lacks the fluidity of Dead Space's controls but neither game has a quickturn or dedicated dodge button. Callisto Protocol technically does have (two!) dedicated dodges but it's just awkward to execute when turning around means you accidentally dodge an incoming attack

Yes, anon, the game that people call far too easy is a "filter." Fricking stupid frick.

      What went wrong?

the combat kinda works, wonky against multiple enemies at once especially in the beginning. the GRP is OP, inventory is shit, the weapons are pretty boring, upgrades are minimal and only changes numbers. Jumpscares are lame and incredibly predictable, story feels rushed near the end, no real difference between the enemies, and because of how strict the game is about health and incoming damage, makes you not want to experiment. One fricking melee weapon and since its mostly melee, it gets real dull seeing the same animations and then the repetition kicks in, yet thankfully the game isnt so long that it becomes unbearable .But the atmosphere and sound design is amazing, i guess.
It's not bad, but it's not good. It really is straight down the middle. Personally i dont care about gore, blood and guts. Seems childish, and the death scenes take too long. Just give me the "Game Over" screen and let me continue. Never understood the gore like this, be it in this game, Mortal Kombat, or Dead Space itself. In the earlier Mortal Kombat, it was kind of funny, but not anymore.

The release performance was terrible. Game on Max security was hard as frick and I liked that, wish the weapons were more viable

they idea of making the game super melee focused robs them of having any meaningful gameplay decisions for the player to make.

Sort of! You can knock off limbs so enemies can attack less, and you can shoot off the heads of spitters so they're forced to engage you in melee range, but that's pretty much the extent of the depth of combat outside of knocking enemies into conveniently placed spike traps

terrible performance. I thiunk the game was alright, maybe a bit overly linear, but I was enjoying myself.

dropping to sub 30fps on any hardware configuration, and constantly, is just unacceptable. if they ever fix that shit I would try playing it again

Shitty gameplay loop. Takes forever to kill a single enemy with their repetitive dodge, dodge, melee combat.

You're not supposed to actually engage with the dodge-melee-dodge cycle, it's a trap, you're supposed to interrupt enemy attack animations with gunshot stuns and grabs. Before the updates that made it easier DMD was a surefire way to get killed in any group of more than two, and one of the chief reasons people complained about the combat "not working". In reality it was working as intended, players were being punished for falling into the trap. Most people don't grasp this as evidenced by this thread (and many of the others). But in essence it's identical game design to Souls tricking newcomers into using shields and Bayonetta hiding the importance of dodge offset and wicked weaves. The gameplay actually feels pretty good when you go from being locked into on rails gameplay to defying the on rails and controlling the matrix.

Funny how the audiobook thing that released prior to the game's release was way more engaging than the fricking game.

Not much. The game is fun, the environments were cool, and the story was pretty interesting even though it's fairly derivative of Resident Evil.

My only real complaint of the game is that the stun baton paired with telekinesis was too effective. It makes the guns feel unnecessary. In addition, the most effective way to use all guns and ammo is to blast weak points between melee combos. It kind of makes all guns feel the same. Also, guns were incredibly ineffective on their own, and ammo was so scarce that guns can't really be used unless you use them like how I described above. I wanted guns to be a more viable option to diversify combat.
