Eh, that man probably needs to be stuck in an indie studio to permanently keep his ego AND his ambition in check. Apparently his wife wrangles him in those regards by either producing or directing those games and keeping him in the programming and designing areas he's actually good at.
I think empire of sin was his wife more than him. Only just learned that it got abandoned after paradox sold season passes for DLC that never got released. No idea how living in galway has treated them.
It's not like he just got lucky. The only coincidence was John Carmack getting hired by Softdisk at the same time. But Romero had already been selling games on his own for a while.
he made that taco game at least
Wasn't that his son?
Blackroom is dead and gone. This is a different game.
Somewhat charitable to consider it to have ever been alive in the first place.
He did get lucky. Not by making a good game, but by said game blowing up the way it did. By all means, the cavalier rock star attitude could be attributed to being a young and dumb guy.
Doom 3 is a classic that many with good taste appreciate, romero popped out diekatana (and bankrupted LGS indirectly) he must never be allowed to produce any more gaming media, he is too awful
>RAGE came out >Barely playable on AMD cards >AMD pointed the finger at iD >iD pointed the finger back with receipts showing they made AMD aware of the driver problem well in advance
That's about all I remember of that game.
Everything that wasn't the shooting was boring, which sucks since you spend a lot of time backtracking/driving between shooting locations. It's still one of the top-3 games up there for hit reactions from enemies due to the procedural animations blending.
He never made me his bitch 🙁
SUCK IT DOWN
he was never talented.
He dies in the last map of Doom 2
that was an inside joke, he doesn't
Hi Sandy, hope you're doing well.
Bites off more than he can chew without making concessions where applicable.
Guy is still talented as fuck none the less.
grifter
Name a more famous Mexican game dev.
paints his nails

Gen X was so fucking hardcore. Last time I've seen something this evil was that fake Robin Williams death pic.
Man made Knee deep in the dead and funded Deus Ex.
More than makes up for his flaws.
>Loses everything and now he has work at a gas station to support his family
Has there ever been a greater fall from grace?
Yes, childhood you vs current you
Will that be leaded or unleaded sir?
I still want to know the context behind that picture. Romero said it was staged but that explains.
Thats a nice argument, why don't you back it up with a source.
It's actually even worse than that... he makes mobile trash for a living now.

Not gonna lie, that looks pretty neat. Kinda like a flash game back when those were still a thing.
So basically every indie.

He's working on a new AAA FPS in UE5 with his "Romero Games" studio.

Blackboard? Or a different one?
Blackroom is dead and gone. This is a different game.
Can he return to glory?
About the same as any stupid kid that wasn't raised into money that gets rich by some stupid coincidence.
It's not like he just got lucky. The only coincidence was John Carmack getting hired by Softdisk at the same time. But Romero had already been selling games on his own for a while.

Inflated ego and thinking he was more talented than Carmack by virtue of riding Carmack's coattails
Well Carmack shat out Doom 3 and RAGE, so I don't think he's very talented either
Doom 3 is a classic that many with good taste appreciate, romero popped out diekatana (and bankrupted LGS indirectly) he must never be allowed to produce any more gaming media, he is too awful
Doom 3 is underrated and RAGE would have been remembered more fondly if they didn't drag ass with the development

RAGE had the worst issue that any video game could ever have, will ever have, and would have. It was boring. A boring game fails at it's utmost core.
Everything that wasn't the shooting was boring, which sucks since you spend a lot of time backtracking/driving between shooting locations. It's still one of the top-3 games up there for hit reactions from enemies due to the procedural animations blending.
both of those were in much higher quality in terms of gameplay and production than anything romero ever made
He was an actual ideas guy that found a coder buddy to make tools for him.
idea guys cant make it on their own
hubris
what happened?
Same thing as Mark Kern.
The ability to market yourself on other peoples work.
Until you collapse under the weight of your lack of skill.
