No I mean like, controlling your imp with a gyro on your PS4 controller is great during gameplay, especially during point and click-esque games like Liminal Mystery Box, but it's ASS for if you want to create Dreams.

I've played good stuff in dreams, but I would love to have better mouse & keyboard based creation tools and to play stuff like Mimeo Prophecy in 60fps.

If there was a pc version I’d try creating something. Mind blowing they didnt even add keyboard and mouse support on ps4/ps5. Absolutely insane decision from sony.

Sony had little faith in investing into the game's marketing, they are mostly to blame. It also got hit by cease and desists when people started making stuff like mario and sonic games so that certainly killed a lot of the fun as well when Media Molecule had to make tighter rules about content creation. It's a real shame because it's one of the most fun things I've ever played, i played some real good stuff on this.

      >>just play what other have made and never make anything myself
There's easy way of learning how it works by taking stuff from other people's levels and trying to piece to it together the game logic that way. If you're creative it's easy to get in the swing of things.

Not that it matters anymore though. Sony have practically incentivized against creating content now. So it's kind of pointless to do that i might add. When's the shutdown down of the services date? or did it already happen?

I thought it did alright for the type of thing it is. Remember when Project Spark released and nobody noticed so they shut it down after like 4 months?

Surprised all those people who love 3D platformers didn't give Dreams a shot. Considering there's so much of it on there. I've spent hours some nights playing it all.

No ownership of what you make and have it locked to the Dreams platform.

If they had just made this a full game engine it would have been a massive hit

      >If they had just made this a full game engine it would have been a massive hit
It's a game engine in game form. If they just made it an engine then where would be the fun in that? it's trying to simplify game creation in a way that it's easier to understand for people who play video games. That's the best way of describing what they did. Maybe that was too much for people who played games like Little Big Planet in the past.

Your game isn't better than Mario, by that reasoning you shouldn't make anything at all

Really needed to be included in ps+ earlier. These kind of games need a lot of creators making content and its easier to get more attention if its a "free" add on. I know Sony wanted to sell it to recoup costs but that didn't exactly work either.

      >Really needed to be included in ps+ earlier
And it needed to get ported to the PS5 sooner, being able to take advantage of a larger memory pool for creating dreams might have been ideal in regards to expanding scope of creation. Not to mention adding some form of multiplayer included could have really sparked interest.

Sony mishandled Media Molecule massively. LBP should have been pushed hard as the mascot for Sony and the flagship Playstation game. MM should have gotten a shit ton of funding and expansion. Instead they were underfunded and understaffed. LBP as a franchise was offloaded to some random studio that did a meh job with it, and then because LBP3 got meh reception, they said "well, guess nobody wants this franchise anymore" even though people do, just a proper one by MM. But then MM was working on dreams, which kept getting delayed, then had no advertising and cost too much.
Now LBP is gone, but sackboy as a character got his own game but it was pretty much just a ps5 tech demo and now it's over

I got a hot one. LBP was novel and neat but even the premade levels werent anything particularly special and held back the series such that I dont even blame sony not pursuing a lbp4 and instead opting for a SACKBOY GAME

Playstation players have no imagination, it's why they play movie games. They want everything given to them with minimal interaction.

I imagine if this had been released as an actual game engine that people could use to publish their own games Sony would be making a killing instead of whatever gimped shit they ended up going with on the PS4.

sony is quite literally incapable of not shooting itself in the foot and shitting the bed at the same time

        Anonymous

I think a lot of the foot shooting probably had something to do with change of management during these years and the games that came out of their development during the time suffered from the new management.

Dreams is like a less complicated Net Yaroze and I'm surprised that it didn't do well with the people who liked the old playstation brand. That was probably the last interesting thing Sony did as far as I'm concerned.

I wish i had saved a lot of the webms from threads on here back in the day. Mainly just because i don't record myself. I can find threads in archive from back in 2019 but it was all just basic stuff back then and not that impressive. Dreams got impressive much later on with the scope of certain games.

no multiplalyer was the biggest deal

it's like these guys seriously never played Warcraft 3 custom maps or Roblox or Garry's Mod
with multiplayer you can just build a single map or arena with some fun rules where players can compete or cooperate in unique ways, and they will keep coming back. With a single player you need to forge an entire campaign to keep a player interested, it's way more effort both from the creator and from the tester

also no KB+M support was stupid, even if Sony wants to keep the game on playstation it could have absolutely supported this

      >With a single player you need to forge an entire campaign to keep a player interested
What are you talking about? Art's Dream is the game's campaign/story. They didn't sell Dreams as an empty package. Granted it was only a 2 hour one, but Media Molecule made other stuff aside from that.
