here are things that went wrong in BL3 >lead writer for BL2 left ( the guy who made handsome jack + directed voice actors to go as wild as they want) resulting a very soulful characters >story was disappointing to say the least >dialogue felt like it was witting buy a middle schooler, or worst .. a feminist >as a result, you ended up playing the game soloy for the gameplay and giving less than a shit about whats going on the borderlands world >side missions do not show the rewords, its a guessing game or you may go to the wiki to know what are you in for >map UI can use a lot of improvement, I found it annoying to deal with >maps are too big for no reason, and borderlands wasn't knows for its enjoyable driving > skill tree is so boring, you get 4% dmg on this 12% reload speed on that, oh and this thing will stack (up to 5) if you did 3 backflips withing 7secneds time frame >even the ultimates is not that exciting >DLC's are off >weapons brands kinda lost its meaning( sines every gun looks and feels the same) >I found weapons firing sound not that great or lack uniqueness >weapons rarity system is fricked now (lvl13 blue gun can out damage lvl17 legendary) SO WHATS THE GOD DAMN POINT OF MAKING A RANKING SYSTEM !!? >spent most of my time reading weapon side effects (43% more damage 12% more acc ..etc) ITS ON EVERY BLOODY WEAPON ! just make them easy to compare >boss loot is not as exciting anymore >TALK TO LILITH
did I miss anything ?
>skill tree is so boring, you get 4% dmg on this 12% reload speed on that, oh and this thing will stack (up to 5) if you did 3 backflips withing 7secneds time frame
True but this isn't any different from the rest of the series. Go look up BL1 and 2 skill trees if you don't believe it. >DLC's are off
What does this mean?
brands kinda lost its meaning( sines every gun looks and feels the same)
Not really. Dahl is an all-rounder, Atlas is anti-shield and anti-mobility, Hyperion is mega accurate with ADS utility, Jakobs is low ROF huge damage, Maliwan elementals, Vladof rate of fire. Torgue and Tediore became shit though and that was a letdown. Each manufacturer gets different bonuses for their guns, you'll never see a Jakobs gun getting +ROF or a Vladof gun getting +headshot dmg unless it's some unique hybrid legendary and those are rare. >weapons rarity system is fricked now (lvl13 blue gun can out damage lvl17 legendary) SO WHATS THE GOD DAMN POINT OF MAKING A RANKING SYSTEM !!?
This is one of the biggest problems imo. Guns are not worth keeping for long until you're max level.
Pretty much this.
Gameplay and combat was as enjoyable as the previous games but pretty much everything else about it was such dogshit that it actively hindered the rest of the game. Story, characters, dialogue, etc. all trash.
Except for the music. I'd argue that shit was still banging.
Borderlands was a looter-shooter game with humor elements in it
Borderlands 2 was a (bad) humor game with looter shooter elements in it
And everything beyond that aped 2, so it was doomed.
I'm getting eye strain from the constant eye rolling everytime a character opens their fricking mouth. Normally I don't give a shit about story/dialogue as long as the gameplay is good, but its so shit it actually detracts from the overall experience. That and it's too fricking easy, why can't I pick a harder difficulty than normal? Do I seriously have to complete the entire game first?
>ava >no new vault hunters >most legendaries on world pool >nefing characters immediately instead of buffing shit ones (zane) >vault bosses were shit
what actually went good, 1/4 of the guns actually felt good to use
Zane was pretty shit for half the game's life span. Just because he's god tier now doesn't change that fact.
Those games would be amazing if they dropped a main story narrative entirely and long dialogues while you run through emptiness
Make it more like doom action to action to platforming to action to boss fights
Have the sidequests too
Wonderlands introduced that chaos chamber shit, but what gearbox needs to do is make the whole game more of a "Palace of the Dead - FF14" style dungeon crawling or area mapping after a certain part of the game. The static areas and story get boring to do, where as having infinite possibilities to re-do areas and not expect the same lay out would change it up a lot.
>half the game's life span
This is irrelevant and proves the other anon is a moron. Zane did get buffed, and he'll exist in that state far longer than whatever he was at launch.
Ok. He was so shit that now he's good because people complained he was shit. What is your point? Most people who played stopped after their first playthough and will never know/care that he was fixed.
This game series always has the problem of "you need this particular legendary/legendaries with this build setup or you gimp yourself" and it gets boring that 99% of the weapons are useless. The fact purples aren't even the "this is the viable tier" makes the game more stale than even shit like diablo.
god, the fricking bee. have to re-farm it multiple times during a single bl2 play through to not suffer through the enormous health pools in tvhm and uvhm....
Literally just the writing. I honestly prefer the combat to 2's but I can't stand any of the characters. And despite the gameplay improvements there's just an element of SOVL that 3 doesn't quite capture.
Only ever played 1 and 2
Just read a synopsis for the story of 3 and lmao >What if there was an even bigger vault? >And what if there was an even more evil guy than before? >And what if some character you knew did an hecking epic self sacrifice
most people point to the terrible story and characters but honestly - i think it was the mechanics. all of the playable characters were so 'safe' in BL3. very few of their builds or abilities felt wild or unbalanced, to the game's detriment. i picked the melee chick only to find that she barely melee'd and just kind of supplemented shooting with it. i tried the mech suit chick and her mech suit lasted like 10 seconds and did less damage than her guns. all of the bonuses and multipliers were so small that the characters felt more defined by their equipment than their class or talent build. no sniper/melee zer0 dichotomy, no turret axton turrets annihilating a room from cover, no sheriff nisha aimbotting the whole screen to death in a split second; just nothing. it felt like the whole experience was sanded and polished to a mirror sheen and lost all of its fun edges in the process. all of the playable characters felt safe and inoffensive and balanced and BORING.
>i tried the mech suit chick and her mech suit lasted like 10 seconds and did less damage than her guns
Spotted the person who only played around launch and then dropped the game. Moze is now the most busted character in the game, you can complete mayhem 10/11 with only her mech and no gear, that's how powerful she is. There are plenty of ways to play each character now, albeit some characters benefiting more from the dlc skill tree than others.
While I do agree that each playable character is "safe" to play I'd rather have each character viable throughout the entire game than BL2's broken mess of character balance where some characters have extreme trouble (if not almost impossible) beating end game content.
Also this goes more against gearbox fricking up the content itself and not the characters but some raid bosses accidentally have double their HP on OP10, so super busted characters like Salvador are the only ones who can clear it while still allowing you to retain your sanity.
>i think it was the mechanics. all of the playable characters were so 'safe' in BL3. very few of their builds or abilities felt wild or unbalanced, to the game's detriment.
homie what the frick
zane and the mech lady are monstrously overpowered because of how their skills break the game especially at mayhem tier
I've noticed that the most complaints directly about 3's gameplay come from people who never experienced the game after all the buffs and updates because they dropped it before then.
>make looter shooter with hero characters >Only 1 ability per character >Skill tree is generic shit deals +x little amount of damage or shit like that >Weapons only differ in dps rate of fire (doesnt matter most of the time) and type of damage (only 3 types ) but in the end everything does so much damage no one cares >All builds end up playing basically the same
Its like a high quality mediocre designed game.
It's baffling that they keep releasing these games without an adventure mode. No, I do not want to play the entire story with unskippable dialogue five times in a row (and don't forget to do this sidequest or you'll miss a vital gun for your build!) Just let me pick a map and do some random objectives.
I literally could forgive all the flaws in the game if it had this. The plot was bad, but I can take it one time without too much grumbling about it. Multiple times? Frick, no.
At least in 3 the bare minimum you have to play through the story is 4 times (once for each character) because TVHM serves no purpose anymore due to mayhem mode.
But frick 2 and having to play through the story 3 times PER CHARACTER just to get them to max level.
Gearbox not understanding the genre. Sure, having a better plot wouldn’t hurt, but people can live with bad plots in lootgrab games IF YOU CAN IGNORE AND SKIP IT. But no, you can’t, not even on repeat playthroughs, gotta go to the Sanctuary command deck to listen to the same talking heads again and again! What the frick were they thinking?
Writing/Story:
Tales >>>>>> BL2 (aka Handsome Jack) = TPS (This originally had pretty good setup for a cool BL3 before the actual BL3 released) > BL1 >>>>> BL3
Aesthetics:
BL2 (Good variation of biomes and designs) > BL1 > TPS = BL3
Agree otherwise, but I really cant place BL1 so high on aesthetics when you spend so much time in utterly similar looking Rust Commons areas. I mean, I kind of like that deserty and kind of Mad Max -ish look, but too much of it is just too much.
Yeah I see your point exactly, I only put BL1 that high as the mad max-like look is done really well and I still find BL1 areas alot more memorable than TPS and BL3.
When I try to think of areas from those games they all just kind of blend together, only really remember the hammerlock dlc areas in BL3 for it's unique look and small sections of other parts of BL3 but I rate that pretty low since I still remember entire areas from BL1 despite how everything's just wasteland
how does BL2 win for aesthetics? the only thing BL3 is unambiguously better about is the environment diversity. there are objectively more biomes in BL3 than BL2.
>"Haha u stink im rich" >"Noooooo my heckin daughterino!"
Great dialogue.
the only "people" who think Handsome Jack is a good character are moronic zoomers who played BL2 when they were 12 and don't realize the voice actor was carrying shitty dialogue
where the frick are my borderlands ripoffs with the gameplay and progression but without the awfully cringy story written by millenials who miss being a teenager
the game pushes all my fricking buttons but it's attached to this absolute cringe
no way gearbox actually trademarked and copyrighted the mechanics so what the frick is stopping indie tards from ripping this shit off but with minecraft tier graphics and text to speech or ai voice acting
the market for it is clearly fricking there and it's thirsty
ah i see, now that you mention it it really is weird no other games have used the borderlands formula properly, a multiplayer treadmill looter shooter just sounds weird to me
Closest i know of is Shadow Warrior 2 but even that isn't quite the same, and it have six million tiny stats per item so good luck figuring out what the frick the different things do.
Because all the other attempts at it have been "pseudo mmos" that go in a different direction, completely missing the point of: "Diablo but with guns."
Somehow, despite the bar being so low, nothing has topped Borderlands yet (including itself).
>fastest selling 2k game of all time
nothing outside of the story not being good. they fixed mayhem and now the game is genuinely the best gameplay in the series
>they fixed mayhem
I wouldn't call mayhem 11 a decent fix in relation to the system itself, but I still like it because frick their weird obsession with modifiers. Just give us a pure "vanilla" way to play the endgame, none of these forced gimmicks that ruin certain builds and are overall not fun to play. Who the frick thought the modifier that makes some enemies spawn completely immune to different elements was a good idea?
they keep killing off all the good characters so you're left with a bunch of insufferable voices to listen to
also Maya gets killed for the lamest reason ever and the one who caused it gets off scot free AND becomes the next leader of the group
tl;dr your character does not exist in the story
>Ganker always says story doesn't matter as long as the gameplay is good >borderlands 3 comes out with worst writing in the series but best gameplay in the series >"AHHH WORST BORDERLANDS GAME EVER"
?
BL3's story being shit wouldn't matter if you didn't have to stand next to the NPCs and wait for them to finish their dialogue because you have to interact with them afterwards to move on.
BL2 handled the story better since you could just interact with the NPC and then frick off.
there are A LOT of things missing/went wrong
but im just too lazy type it
but let me leave a note for those who want to play it: voice acting/story wasn't the only horrible thing on this game
Bad launch. The game is noticeably better now, but it started out with poor performance, crashes, bugs, badly balanced skills and weapons, no endgame content.
Over time these problems all got fixed but the damage was done because the word of mouth had already spread.
And the writing of course. The DLCs were much better in this regard but the base game's writing is insultingly cringe. The lack of sincerity and horrible comedy just ruined everything.
Also, fricking top-tier post. I fricking hate that brand of post-ironic, seven layers of irony, nothing is serious brand of humor. Frick the MCU for popularizing it, killing off sincerity in burger media. Joss Whedon should be dragged out in the street and shot
if there was some kind of mod to make all the main story characters shut the frick up and never hear any of their dialogue, it'd be a lot more palatable
i thought the gameplay was fine (after the legendary drop rates got nerfed) but holy frick the dialogue and the mEmEs were too intrusive to ignore

?????????
Why didn't they give bl3 more love and turn it into something great?
>1 >
1 falls apart instantly once you leave the Arid Badlands, aka the first major area. 2 and 3 are full of faults but at least they feel like finished games from start to finish.
Make a new character or use a mod. Also the sentry can become good with the nuke upgrade along side another upgrade, lets you throw it with infinite range and it have a mini nuke explosion when it deploys.
Gearbox fell for their own hype.

Lowered budget unironically and Gearbox believing their own hype so 3's story is ultra pretentious.
It's probably not even a bad game. But the writing, voice acting, story, music and all the shit that shouldn't matter ruins it.

>Ganker always says story doesn't matter as long as the gameplay is good
>borderlands 3 comes out with worst writing in the series but best gameplay in the series
>"AHHH WORST BORDERLANDS GAME EVER"
?
Ganker is full of shit.
Ordinarily I'd agree. But there's something so noxious and pathetic about BL3's writing that it overpowers everything else.
Thats how bad it is.
BL3's story being shit wouldn't matter if you didn't have to stand next to the NPCs and wait for them to finish their dialogue because you have to interact with them afterwards to move on.
BL2 handled the story better since you could just interact with the NPC and then frick off.
Unironically everything.
there are A LOT of things missing/went wrong
but im just too lazy type it
but let me leave a note for those who want to play it: voice acting/story wasn't the only horrible thing on this game
ok essex Black person, very helpful post.
sorry
Can you post the vid in the image?
Also, fricking top-tier post. I fricking hate that brand of post-ironic, seven layers of irony, nothing is serious brand of humor. Frick the MCU for popularizing it, killing off sincerity in burger media. Joss Whedon should be dragged out in the street and shot

I unironically had more fun playing BL: pre sequel than this game
if there was some kind of mod to make all the main story characters shut the frick up and never hear any of their dialogue, it'd be a lot more palatable
i thought the gameplay was fine (after the legendary drop rates got nerfed) but holy frick the dialogue and the mEmEs were too intrusive to ignore

should get people to shut the frick up, don't think it does anything for cutscenes though.
good thing you can skip cutscenes
>good thing you can skip cutscenes
Should probably try that next time, though i didn't have the ability to before due to co op.
>is the best borderlands content in your path
>makes two takedowns
>completely drops support for 3 and focus all their work solely on wonderlands
>makes even less endgame content for wonderlands
?????????
Why didn't they give bl3 more love and turn it into something great?
censorship, woke, and forcing an update to all previous Borderlands games to have ingame advertisement telling you to buy Woke Wonderlands
Does this game still meltdown the One X? It's the only reason why I haven't gotten it yet
Borderlands 1 >>>> 2 >>>> 3
>1 >
1 falls apart instantly once you leave the Arid Badlands, aka the first major area. 2 and 3 are full of faults but at least they feel like finished games from start to finish.
The story and Ava
Just started BL 1. How do I change from soldier? I dunno but the sentry sucks
Make a new character or use a mod. Also the sentry can become good with the nuke upgrade along side another upgrade, lets you throw it with infinite range and it have a mini nuke explosion when it deploys.
