it's different when the level is crafted around exploding rather than freeform wanton destruction. Chaining busses in paradise for huge scores is trivial as long as you know what section of the city to head towards after initiating a crash. Optimal scoring routes in say revenge required much more finesse and felt like figuring out an admittedly simple puzzle.
Frick there were intersections in paradise where I straight up got bored and stopped the crash because it had been going for a fricking half hour.
I still like the open world though, and fricking about with parking garages and the airfield in multiplayer were a lot of fun. It just could've used a little less aimlessness in events.

Huge empty city. Having to find your way through races, getting lost, losing the race for taking the wrong turn at some point. open world meme

kept same physics from older games where cars magnetize into objects after being hit for crashes/takedowns, which wasnt too noticeable on a narrow track in 3 and 4, but in this open world game you might get slightly tapped and gravitate all the way to the other side of the road and crash into a divider

I liked it when it came out on PS3 and I play the remake every few months. I like taking down the cars in the over world to unlock them and I like the mode that lets you run from ppl killing you and the mode that lets you kill people.

taking down cars in free roam to unlock them was genius, but once you have them all and still have 90 events to go for your license it makes the world feel a bit barren. I would've liked to see some npc races going on while you mess around, or some other way to bring back the sporadic fast cars outside multiplayer.

Sometimes it feels like no one on this board likes games for the same reasons I do. I don't care if it wasn't challenging enough, I don't care if the progression system wasn't perfect I don't care if the AI wasn't great. I care that the cars were fricking fun to drive, and they were. Just fricking speeding around, chaining boosts, hitting jumps, doing spins and barrel rolls, seeing how many cars I could sideswipe without wrecking or letting go of boost, hitting wide drifts in the mountains over and over until I get them perfect with no wall contact, tapping E-brake mid drift to change the trajectory just so, spinning your wheels and burning rubber just for fun. I could do it for hours and never get bored because the driving model was just so fun and satisfying. If that's not what you play the game for, fine, but that's a you problem. I loved the shit out of this game and still do.

  42. 2 years ago

Physics were toned down in comparison with 3 and revenge, so, crashes weren't that impressive. This is by far the biggest problem I have with Paradise. Plus, they added automatic slow-motion when you crash so you can see how realistic it is.
Lack of diversity... Of scenarios. All tracks were reduced to traverse the same streets and corners over and over again. One-size-fit-all solution that is garbage.

I didn't like Paradise because no matter how much I played, I just couldn't bring myself to remember the map. It had no character.
I have maps from other racers burnt into my corneas, but all I can recall from P.City is "this straight line goes to stadium and then you turn left" and "this tunnel leads to the mountains god I fricking hate the mountains". Also, maybe it's because I just sucked, but I can't think of any actual road in which I'd ever maxxed a car. There always seemed to be a corner or traffick somewhere up front, never a proper open line, just like in NFSCarbon.

you must have sucked ass because I-88 snaked through the whole city and you could boost the whole way pretty easily with a little practice

Not that anon, but the game is 14 years old. I've replayed it a bunch, due to being absolutely desperate for Burnout content, but some people may have played it when it came out, and left it at that.
