This reminds me of when I did the asylum level in BG2 with a full party. I ended up dropping Nalia for Imoen so she was basically stuck in the underground area forever.
bro you're just going to let a bear rape your sis like that?
oy vey
>being mean to your sisterwife
Which was raped by a some crazy chick because you were too busy raping a vampire.
But I thought Baldur's Gate was muh perfect game, Ganker?
Thats Baldurs Gate 2, they even bleached Jaheira.
>Quick, we need a portrait for this 16 year old girl we added into the game at the last minute!
>Yes, I know just the perfect 38 year old woman to be the face model for her.
It really does confuse me too.
All CRPG portraits must be ugly and look nothing like the character, it's an unspoken rule.
Viconia.
Weren't those portraits mostly just the developers?
>"The model for Imoen's Baldur's Gate 1 portrait was the wife of the team's lead terrain artist, Dean Andersen."
Valygar is obviously Vin Diesel.
BG1 portraits were so good.
The top is IWD portraits however
gtfo with that grimdark crap
That isn't grimdark anon. Are you retarded?
fuck off, retard
For me, it's 2B and 3E in a night of drunken stupor at the local tavern
that blonde cleric is so fucking hot
3B>2B>2G>1A
for me, it's tiddy paladin in rags, vaguely asian monk, blonde cleric w/ mace, and big tiddy goth sorc in the top row
party leader is (Me), male/flex class
This one seems to be missing? I usually used this one for a mage if I didn't already have a male one made
Too many midgets.
not enough you mean
Not enough midgets
These are actually amazing. It's a shame IWD didn't have a better story as a development focus.
Post your parties:
>1C male for my CG dwarf fighter main character.
>2B female for my LG human cleric focused on turn undead
>A2 male for my CN halfling rogue
>F4 male for my LN human wizard focused on control spells
>2D female for my TN elf druid
>3B female for my CN human gish sorceress
Holy fucking kino.
paladins hate him
Never leave home without Merlin.
I always use pic related
Reminds me of GW1, was just the devs making stupid faces/poses and some were taken from films.
I love Guild War's skill icons so much. picrel is Aleister Crowley in elite Kurzick armor
looks more like Werner Herzog
unnamed professor every time
someone needs to run these through an AI face recognizer
i was able to pull up a couple of my mugshots through just tossing an old picture in there of me
1. This explains why some of the portraits have such a donut steal vibe to them. Particularly Bald "Stone Cold" Fighter dude and Keldorn whom always felt overly precious and trying to be cool.
2. Good thing Mike Sass and Programmer Melax are so aesthetic. In fact the Sass couple are too attractive and chadlike.
3. Wtf Imoen is way more attractive in person. tfw no finnish sister-wife.
4. There's no way Nalia being Drew Barrymore is a "possible." It was obvious from a 5 second glance.
Isn't her face based off of some 90s actress in her 20s?
It's based off a photo of the wife of Dean Anderson, a terrain artist of the game.
That's how 16 year olds looked in the 1990s you zoomer.
this woman is a 10/10 in the UK
I don't want to see what makes 9/10
>hire british kid because she's cute
>handful of years later
Why does this keep happening?
sansa stark
she got hit by a rusted, old cocaine truck?
10 years difference.
Probably a situation where if she didn't become a millionaire actress she'd still be cute, now she'd drugged up, bogged out and likely whored herself to every producer in the biz
Reminds me when my british boss came to visit the slave mines and was telling me "you southern europeans all have a lot of variety, I always just assumed you would all be on the shorter side and dark-ish" and I wanted to say "yeah, that's because we're not all inbread, you insular fuck." I didn't. I'm a coward. It's not even a clever comeback.
Best not. Brits love dishing out bantz but can't take the heat.
Innsmouth genetics
>What were they thinking?
You'll never understand. It's yet another example of timeless SOUL. Think about it.
>Game is based on old school, tough as nails, unapologetic thac0 D&D.
>All the recruitable characters throw around 90s era basement nerd catch phrases and movie references. (If you played D&D at all in the 90s this was coon PC behavior)
>The campaign is fucking insane. Random encounters easily capable of TPK. Dishonest and hostile NPCs. Your weapons break without warning when you need them most. Even the map is useless as you have to explore every corner yourself, risking life and limb just to find out where to go. (Something an asshole killer DM would do.)
>And of course, the portraits are all middle aged LARPers in questionably anachronistic styles of dress... just like the players themselves.
Tl;Dr the PCs are cosplaying people playing characters.
Thats why EE characters suck ass. They're all fanfic tier Drizzt wannabe sadsacks.
>Tl;Dr the PCs are cosplaying people playing characters.
I choose to believe this, based.
In reality, it's Bless, Chant, Haste, every spell that increase thac0 and ac and then you press on enemy to throw a dozen of attackss in hopes 1 of them will actually be a hit.
Not a problem in BG2 where you are capable of designate everything you see by spamming summons, aura effects with inviz/sanctuary, cheetah and kill them out of existence and every possible exploit you can come up with
You're reminding me of why BG is so good. So many options to get around almost EVERY opponent or problem in the game, nothing like the creative laziness devs have today.
Even the EE changed the original 3d cutscenes (flawed though they were) to the ugly globohomo style 2d still images.
I played through BG1 and 2 about 60 times by now and I still find new ways to do fights. its amazing
What are you taking about, none of that is needed at all. You cast sleep. That's it, for 95% of the game. Then you beat in skulls with a sling. Bg1 is entirely sleep and ranged attacks, with some summon monster or animate dead spam for flavor and to set off traps.
And then you meet Kangaxx
>Kangaxx
He gets obliterated by a few castings of melf's minute meteors.
If I remember correctly, weapons stopped breaking after you killed that guy in the Nashkel mines and "solved" the iron crisis, right?
No, you could buy more expensive non-breakable weapons from one smith afterwards. But you wouldn't because magic weapons were unbreakable and by then you probably had enough for your party by then.
Normal weapons made of metal still have a chance to break on critical failure, if you fail the following death save
Then there's the iron crisis chance to break, which is a low % on every hit, on top of that, which disappears after you bring the samples to the blacksmith
>mfw this quest was missing in the switch version
I didn't even know it was a mod
>Thats why EE characters suck ass.
I didn't hate the half orc blackguard, he was kinda OK in 1 for this type of character. In 2 he almost immediately goes BHAALSPAWN I WANT YOUR COCK, kek
The artist just used the devs, himself and his wife as models for inspiration, but some are almost identical
"Yer a queer fellow."
>Plug in BG2 for the first time
>Oh, that stupid twerp of a girl I always dumped outside candlekeep. Ok.
>This whole quest is about about finding Imoen? But she sucks…
>Where is Safana? Shar-Teal?
>Safana! …wtf they just kill her?
Thank god for viconia saving this game.
For me, it's Baldur's Gape.
So uh
source?
the psychic ogre gets me every time
Is it even canon?
Unironically more canon than BG3.
Rent free.
Imoen my beloved. What a qt.
>no romance
>He doesn't know.
I-I just started BG2 and she doesn't seem to be all there anymore
She's built for Big Irenicus Cock
>WHAT WERE THEY THINKING?
'bout trollops and plug tails
Built for BGC
Seriously, what the FUCK were they thinking
BG1 was the tabletop campaign. BG2 was the graphic novel.
>Could have gone on adventures with your cute little sister.
They took this from you.
Well, that what happens when you are literally supposed to be dead by the end of 4th chapter. Making her bhaalspawn was such a dumb move, just as dumb was to make your go to thief be a traitor
Not gonna lie, that would have pissed me off. I really like Imoen, and definitely losing her would have been sort of a dick move, especially if you used her in the first game.
sexo with sis
Sex with my cute genki imouto.
It doesn't count as incest if we are both bhaalspawn right?
>not wanting it to count as incest
Me axe be bloody ready
I love this dude like you wouldn't believe.
>tells Aerie to shut the fuck up
>fucks Mazzy
>is respected by Keldorn even though he is Chaotic Evil
>is respected by Edwin even though he hates mages
>is respected by Viconia even though he genocided drow
>jokes around with Jaheira who is a stuck up bitch to everyone but him and HaerDalis
BASED manlet
literally the only based dwarf to ever live
Fuck you.
what a great character he is
In the mod, Imoen starts freaking out about the tender incestual sex we just enjoyed. I don't get it, that was the best part.
>he doesn't use img2img in stable diffusion to make the portraits better
There's something seriously wrong with her eyes. She should visit a healer.
I'm too lazy to fix minor mistakes that I wont even see when the image is just a thumbnail
>She's cross-eyed from just getting fucked silly by the MC.
Seems fine to me.
Try to use anime model with flat lightning. I'm sure it's possible to do far better than that.
oh my god she's built for BBC now!!!!
It just made her Leliana from Dragon Age
Playing a Lawful Good Paladin. Any recs for party members?
1 or 2?
1
Ajantis
Xan
Branwen
Imoen
>best to fit your Paladin from power level
Edwin Mage or Baeloth if you play EE
Coran Fighter/Thief
Viconia Cleric
Kagain Fighter
Khalid Fighter
>my favourite I would take as a Paladin
Montaron Fighter/Thief
Tiax Cleric/Thief
Xan Mage
Viconia Cleric
Feldorn Druid
I hope you're playing the original my man.
Add Minsc (or even Viconia) while Imoen can dual into a second mage and you're golden.
I was going to put Minsc as the last guy but I'm personally a little sick of him.
Fair enough. There's another ranger in High Hedge who is a good alternative. All of these characters are just frolicking about in the woods.
in 1 you want a cleric a thief and a mage. you can fill up with a druid or two archer types. bards are really bad for most of the game unless you are playing the original version with moral failure. multi class casters are pretty bad but thief/fighters are great
in 2 I recommend getting a cleric a mage and a thief aswell but you can mix and match more easily. archery is way less powerful but all classes are strong
Take the ranger sub class Archer and you’ll destroy everything. Just have to buy the arrows. Pc +2 Archers = cakewalk. The entire game is a cakewalk, no matter what, really.
Canon party for the Canon protagonist. Imoen, Jaheria, Khalid, Minsc and Dhynaheir
The npcs I hardly ever used, go figure. Jaheria’s ok.
Name a game with worse portraits. No, not " this one portrait in x looks like ass" A game where every fucking portrait is garbage like BG
Protip: You can't(I hope)
mm9
Vandal Hearts 1 comes pretty close.
Ultima 7 The Serpent Isle
That's because they are edited pictures of the studio members or their friends and family.
Pillars of Eternity, easily.
Neverwinter Nights. You might tell me about the unique artstyle, but I'm genuinely impressed how terrible some of them are.
I really hated the player portraits in Tyranny. The worst part is that even if you use a custom portrait, almost everything you'd use will clash with the art style of every other character.
If you think old Stone Cold Steve Alteration needs to open up a can of Flesh to Stone on this freak's ass, gimme a hell yeah
HELL YEAH!
Hell yeah!
Damn BG1 is still uncontested for best portraits in a crpg.
Man, that's an awful mod.
Like two decades later and people are still mad about this mod.
15 years old by the way.
Based
missions actually an adult though. twileki only live until about 60 ish. they're adults at 12. so 15 year old mission vao is actually prime breeding mommy age.
https://swfanon.fandom.com/wiki/Twi%27lek_(Jedi_Renaissance)
>Twi'leks had an average lifespan of 75 standard years. Those who were keenly attuned to the Force could live up to 200. At any rate, individuals past the age of 85 were considered to have reached an age worthy of veneration.
I'm not disagreeing, but where do you get your number from?
For me it's the fact she has an 18 charisma requirement, and there's a specific event designed to unmask anyone using the ring of human influence to boost it
is this a mod character?
Yep, and their creator is, weirdly enough, one of the people that's kept Baldurs Gate Modding going for basically the entire gap until the remaster.
There's some weird, deep-lore to the whole situation.
I'm surprised that everyone discusses Saerilith when the Gigastacy Sandrah exists, who can do everything, is related to everyone, fucks everyone, is adored by everyone and so thoroughly corrupts the game that you become a lowly sidekick in your own story.
The funniest thing is the 4d chess the modder did to make people play that shit. If I'm not mistaken, it includes overtaking the community mod manager.
I admire that level of autism, kind of makes me want to play it with every other mod installed just to see how deep it goes.
>not posting it
Dear lord, it reads like pic related incarnate. That man needs to tocuh a pussy asap
>Man
It's unironically a woman that's behind it.
I love how all the options are basically the same
The illusion of choice.
My fucking sides. Amazing, this is cringekino of the highest calibre.
Originally she wasn't part of the plot at all, and her voiceover lines were recorded for a female extra. She was only added when playtesters complained that the early chapters of the game were too difficult to complete if the PC didn't recruit unstable nutjob Montaron into the party (this is the reason she never interacts with other NPCs, incidentally — there was no time to record additional dialog).
Imoen was also originally supposed to die in Spellhold. The developers changed their minds upon seeing fan poll results, leading to the aforementioned RetCon.
I always pretend she did die. makes way more sense and I dont like leaving behind a buddy for her
Do people generally not take yoshimo? He leaves a slot open
I mean I love Yoshimo but having played the game so much I tend to go without him since he isnt permanent if I dont plan on using Imoen
I think people skip Yoshi because it's a bitch to keep him alive from the geas and you have to use a bug to do it so he doesn't get any more voice lines after that point. I still take him with me each run tho, he's my boy
that my only gripe with BG2. literally my one critique. let us revive and forgive him. I want my bro with me till the end. his writing is fantastic and you could dual class him too. perfection
Instead they kill off the best thief, Safana. Christ, a fan poll saved her? The fuck is wrong with people.
Literally who gave a shit about Safana?
The girl who would do anything? You want a theif in bg1, and she’s way less annoying than twerpy imoen.
>You want a theif in bg1, and she’s way less annoying than twerpy imoen.
Maybe so, but Imoen is still a way better thief.
You’re all buffle headed. Sure she’s got the stats, but not sure how people stand listening to her. I’d probably like her better in 2 if they left her a straight thief. As it is she always feels like a fifth wheel. If you want a thief mage dual class you’ll already have that rich girl with the stronghold.
God damn.
kek wtf is wrong with that dude
is there an imoen romance that doesn't have rape?
>Dude
Truly naïve.
is this expanded(ong) edition?
heh
Childhood friend kino ruined by degeneracy
go on
Finally a decent mod.
downloading
never understood the obsession with Imoen when she's basically a non-character until ToB when they actually bothered to write more than five lines of dialogue for her
AI voice acted fully voiced Imoen sex mod soon
One thing that really irked me in BG2 was that the game gave you a canon party of goody-two-shoes with Imoen, Khalid, Jaheira, Dynaheir and that way too overrated bald retard Minsc even if you played an evil party or with totally different good or neutral characters.
I know they had to, in a way, but still, I think they could have done it another way.
I think its nice how easy they let you roleplay it away though. never even push you that Minsc and Jaheira are in the cages. could just escape with Imoen and then pretend she died in Spellhold and play with your own head canon party
They were thinking that having a companion in similar circumstance to you would be a good device to show how someone reasonable would react to being a baal spawn, giving you the contrast with whatshisname from 1.
Imoen if she real
Imoen is not a mutt.
>Orphan
>Basically innkeeper's tavern wench
>Thief
I hate to tell you this anon, but she's a mutt for sure
Heya!
Would you honestly fare any better?
Bold to give a name to such a hack
I really liked the Aerie romance. I especially liked how you could knock her up, have her spit the kid out in the middle of the wilderness and they just shove the toddler into a bag of holding. Romance.
Wouldn't the kid suffocate if you followed actual DnD rules for the bag of holding?
I guess they can always make a second child.
even dating Anomen is less gay than dating Aerie
I honestly can't stand what a whiny little shit Aerie is and the kid in ToB doesn't make up for how completely insufferable she is in the base game
Instaling the Imoen romance mod and healing her with the power of dickings.
>you know, this thread reminds me of that time uncle Gerhardt was suffering from a bad case of the groinsproit. Its been known to happen to gnomes who forget to drink their turnip tea in the evenings. Growing up my mother would always remind me every night. Except that time she got turned into a statue by a basilisk! She always liked to go exploring in Mutamins garden and well, its an occupational hazard at that point. Mind you it was nice to get a rest from her whailing once in a while. She was a banshee you see and... Where was I?
GOAT
>joke character has god tier power levels
>and is actually funny
>starts with equipment better than anything you can get as a thief
was Jan a mary sue?
No, he made up for it by being intensely annoying to all other party members (and intensely amusing to the player)
I've been itching for another solo playthrough and have never played any of the weirdo Enhanced Edition classes. Maybe I'll give shaman a try.
shaman fucking sucks. shadowdancer on the other hand is the one good thing EE brought to the game so I would suggest that one
Yeah, figured as much. I'll go for Shadowdancer, it seems pretty cool and ripe for dual-classing.
I don't know what went wrong when Beamdog were designing shadowdancer, but it's legitimately the most fun class in the game.
they accidentally let a white man design part of the game
>dragon disciple
Tankier sorcerer, still ridiculously overpowered
>shaman
Basically a weaker druid since there are only a few druid spells worth casting, still extremely powerful
>shadowdancer
Thief without the tedium, really fucking fun
>dwarf defender
Uber tanky especially considering dwarven saves, absolute beast
>monks
As terrible as the regular monk, do not touch
>blackguard, priest of tempus
Irrelevant, forgettable, get some crappy abilities you forget exist after two minutes
>priest of tyr
Has a handy "FUCK STATUS EFFECTS" ability, pretty irrelevant in the long run especially if you are plan at all
Playing through the first
Is Imoen romanceable in Bg2?
>Is Imoen romanceable in Bg2?
Not without mods (and the mod is of questionable quality see
)
Posting some real Baldurs Gate places
Isn't that a mini version of what london bridge used to be like?
For me, it's bothering all the nobles
Don't touch me! I'm super important.
Awaaaay with you beggar!
Your reputation has decreased by: 2
I learned swordfighting in the castle gardens there.
The truth about Imoen.
True SOVL is created by mistake
I 'ate those money grobbin scom
New player here, so should I go Shadowrush or Paladin? What's the most fun?
real man play fighter/thieves
blackguard
cleric/wizard because its the coolest
for me, it's cleric
Everything is good (except monks), although casters have the most interesting progression since every level brings something new.
I'd recommend playing the original and getting the bugfix pack with the HD resolution mod first. I know the Enhanced Edition exists, but it breaks the balancing and trivialises so many fights that would otherwise be at least a mild bump on your journey.
Forgot to add that the max hp per level mod is also great if not essential.
Overcoming your annoyances is the only way to cure autism.
Athkatla>>>>>>>>>>>>
gate
>tfw you understand what the logo depicts only way later into the game
kino
I still don't get it
It's the tale of the light elves/dark elves and how they split into 2 races long ago. My memory is a bit hazy but it becomes clear to you in game when you emerge from the underdark
Yeah but what does it have to do with ballspawns and or baldur's gate?
nothing, the name "baldurs gate" in the second game was but there only for recognition. they were debating very far into the development to exclude the name entirely which funnily enough makes bg3 more of a baldurs gate game than the second one
I always thought it was a depiction of the bhaalspawn, still not convinced about your elves...
>making a serious attempt to actually beat BG1 for the first time (I messed around with it as a kid but never made it past chapter 2)
>autism gets the better of me and I look things up like potential companions
>the idea of being restricted on who I can bring along (reputation, alignment, duos, conflicts, etc.) really annoys me
>install mod to let me ignore all that
>ignore the mod and end up with a vanilla friendly party that would've worked regardless
Why am I like this?
poor self discipline
>he doesnt play a charisma chad
I have a 18 in CHA but don't evil party members leave no matter what at 19-20 rep regardless? Which seems stupid to me. Why the fuck would an evil character not like having a high reputation? They could totally take advantage of it.
yeah I think reputation still makes them leave, but at least no in fighting between npcs
Honestly if I take advantage of any of those mods the reputation one is the one I'll use because otherwise you have to do stupid micromanage bullshit like steal and get caught on purpose every once in awhile on purpose just to stay at or below that 18 threshhold.
>overcome with the retarded urge to do a shapeshifter run despite knowing it's one of if not the worst classes in the game
>see that SCS tweaked it a bit, maybe that'll help make it playable
>first level is okay
>falls off HARD and the next 6 levels are pure agony in which i play a shitty mage with slightly more hp and worse thac0 than a drunken xvart but at least since they made the shift a weapon you can swap instantly for casting
>hit level 7
>permanent haste, 2 (3) attacks per round, 19 str, -5 AC, 20% magic resist, tearing everything apart and making my fighter look like a chump
what the FUCK i am a raging furry god now and that's not even the greater version at lvl 13
maybe it falls off hard in ToB but for now, oh no i'm having fun with a meme build
druids are fantastic throughout all the games and I am tired of people rating them so low
I blame Jaheira.
Jaheira is an absolute fucking monster though
Feldorn > Jaheira
Cernd > Jaheira
but Jaheira > everyone else in ToB
they are pretty great and i usually like avenger, it's like a cooler mage with flavor even with the stat debuffs
but shapeshifter was really shit in the OG, and Cernd as its representative was completely ass
all they need was a way to scale shapeshifting
I mean yes the shapeshifter part was bugged but Cernd still casted high level druid spells which means he was insanely powerful
That the early game was extremely difficult and they needed to give you a companion immediately, thus Imoen was added late in the game.
I'd pump her full of babies
Does the character carry on from 1 to 2?
yes you can import your save to carry your main character's stats/spells over
playing the entire saga from the start with 1 character is kino and this was the first game to invent that idea
Ty
I'm not a big Diablo like game fan. Should I still play Dark Alliance for the series story/plot?
If so in what order?
I've never played Dark Alliance but i'm pretty sure it has no relation to the main BG story. The proper order is BG1 + Sword Coast -> BG2 -> BG2 Throne of Bhaal. Ideally with the extra EE content disabled via mod since that adds non-canon NPCs and items.
Thank you
but Wizardry, Might & Magic, and the D&D goldbox games did it first
>playing the entire saga from the start with 1 character is kino and this was the first game to invent that idea
Oh, not even close.
Imoen was literally added at the last minute when BG1 was developed.
Why do I live in such a pissant town?
Should I bother with Siege of Dragonspear?
I don't care that much about SJW shit one way or the other, yet that's the only thing I can find anyone saying about it.
I honestly didn't mind it and I'm a professional chud hating chud
It's free and you can skip it so who cares
I wanted to like it but I never finished it, and I've done nearly everything in the originals. The writing is different and there are plot holes and hooks that don't actually go anywhere. And the sjw shit, of course.
Its super meh overall but has a couple fun magic items and one (1) nicely designed and fun encounter.
But you can't shake the feeling that you are wasting your time playing somebody's fan fiction.
>you can't shake the feeling that you are wasting your time playing somebody's fan fiction.
That is startlingly accurate.
if you want to laugh at how they ruin BG2 sure, but it just not a very fun experience tbh. I skip it every time I replay the saga
Fuck no, it's trash
Also spoils Icewind Dale
>playing enhanced edition
>playing the original
EE just plays better and you can mod out the fanfiction
>EE just plays better
Lmao. EE is quite inferior to modded og.
how so
Being fair to EE, you can do more with modding for it than with OG because of advances in the engine and coding. For as much as Beamdog screwed up, it is the superior modding platform. Ascension in particular does more and works better than it ever could in OG, and both games can now be unified.
That said, they also fixed bugs and exploits in the infinity engine that were funny or fun to use. That's way more unforgivable than anything else.
For me, the canonical Bhaalspawn looks like this and has the TIME FOR A BIT OF THE ROUGH 'N TUMBLE voice.
Done and done.
What now I wonder?
>accent wanders all over the British Isles depending on the sentence, if not depending on the word
SOUL
for me its the German voice actor with the saxonian accent
For me it's the "Alright, alright!" voice.
Same here unless I am doing a joke character for whatever reason, then they have ridiculously clashing colors, and the old lady "Yeeees?" voice while being male.
Whenever I see that portrait, all I can think of is the Bhaalspawn from the absolutely awful Baldur's Gate novelizations.
You are now in the planar sphere.
I of course love the BG2 dreams with Irenicus lecturing you, but I also love the more abstract ones in BG1 having weird versions of recent events, especially with the music
>Irenicus lecturing you
sorry, "Irenicus" lecturing you
Are there any thief companions in 1/2 that can actually deal with traps and aren't completely shit in combat?
thieves will never not be completely shit in combat
give them a crossbow/shortbow and some decent arrows and that's the best you'll get out of them
>what's a fighter/thief
not a companion in either game is the problem
shit because weapon specs are still nonexistent
BG1 Coran, Alora and Montaron are fantastic dmg dealers and good thieves. you can also dual class Shar-Teel to a thief. Coran is the single best archer in the game aswell. doing shit tons of damage
BG2 Yoshimo cant really do much dmg but he has traps which are insanely powerful. Jan, Nalia and Imoen are mages which is better than dealing physical dmg. if you want to play a backstabber you need to make your own thief in BG 2 though
Problem with Coran is that you're likely to get him at a later level due to his location and you probably won't be able to get his find traps up enough for some areas, besides that he seems very strong.
is Imoen not good? I used her for all of 1 and 2 (Jan subbed for her while she was in story prison) and she did fine both in 1 as an archer mostly and in 2 as one of my mages. had little issue with traps, though combat wise I did play on core rules so she could be worse on the autimso modes
Imoen is good, I used her in a previous playthrough though and trying a more evil group and didn't like her personality, so trying to figure out a decent replacement for another playthrough.
I used Nalia and Imoen in BGII focusing on their mage side and just had them chug a potion of thievery whenever I needed them to deal with traps. I usually had them used ranged weapons when not spellslinging.
For BG1, is cleric or mage better?
I really like the chaos thing of wild mages but the really retarded spell limit pissed me off since resting was hard to get a chance since I'd be interrupted
Or are mages with slings viable as 'sort of' dps
mages become more powerful than clerics at high levels but are more fragile in BG1
invest heavily in the Sleep spell it's their best tool early
Not that anon but what about sorcerers? They can gain spells as they level but can't memorize from scrolls though.
Sorcerer is a strong pick, and it continues to be in the 3E games from where it originates. It's nice having your entire repertoire on hand if it's your first time playing and don't know what to expect. Much of the utility in that comes from being a wizard is lost in the translation from tabletop, so specialising and having more spells per day really comes into it's own in video game format.
you want both but in BG 1 cleric spells are more impactful if you have to pick. mage dps spells you could just use wands and arrows for
there's a ring hidden in a like one pixel wide crack in a rock just below the friendly arm in that doubles your lvl 1 mage spells
with either EE or BGT you can find it holding tab
this will improve your low level mage experience dramatically
personally i prefer mage since cleric tends to be healbot/less good fighter for quite a few levels compared to mages' "useful once per day" shtick but either one is fun to use
I think it's mage. Level one spell, sleep, dominates that game, and you get some great wands.
morons you realize priest have command and hold person right? sleep is for stuff your fighters can kill anyway
I had entirely too much fun throwing lightning bolts into rooms and closing the door, so I say mage.
Here's an artist's conception
heya
I shall be the last.
And you will go first.
>go into random building in Athkatla
>find secret door
>run into Lich
>die
It's the inn in the gate district right?
Yes it's been a long time so it's hazy, I just remember running into a damn Lich out of nowhere when I was way too low level.
>tfw playing SCS the first time thinking you can steal his sword and bail and he locks the door behind you
>tfw the rotting magical corpse tricked you into bringing him his body parts
Best Party
>Aerie
>Jaheira
>Imoen
>Viconia
You get the full elven catfight experience, an incredible versatile party, and a free slot to rotate in party members for their quests.
Jaheira, you say?
How long after the OG games is BG3 again?
~125 years
Feels like it's been that long irl
I was 10 when BG1 came out and now I am middleaged fat incel. but at least I can still play Baldurs Gate
>fat
How? I eat and eat and eat and lay in bed all day and nothing ever changes.
Do you eat a lot of sugar? I always hated sweet things so maybe that's it.
you just have good metabolism anon. I barely eat anything but I dont work out so I am getting fatter every day
for me it's the cola garden gnome
I lost a shitload of weight when I stopped drinking it entirely for a few months. But I am weak to the goyjuice.
Baldar's Gate came out 25 years ago
The gap between the classic games and 3 is so vast I somehow didn't expect them to bring fan service in.
Its like 100-150 years, its not that bad for elves, kinda bad for half-elves which is why she actually shows aging.
I didn't mean in-game time when I meant that. More, they're products of completely different gaming periods, seeing a classic character in the third game feels anachronistic for me. Hell, the last time I paid attention to BG3 it still didn't look anything more than a DOS2 mod.
Isn't Minsc in the game?
yeah, I think they make up some horseshit to bring him back because of course they need to bring back funny meme rodent man everyone who pretends to like BG brings up
He was turned into stone in a comic or adventure w/e released in like 2013
Jaheira bros, we're going home
>Already has another husband
>Will probably fuck this mc as well
I would be pretty upset if I was a Jeheira bro
I honestly can't comprehend why somebody who likes Baldur's Gate would play Larian's cash grab.
Why not, its a quality game, and I like both DIV OS games
>comes back from "never returning to the Sword Coast" just to fuck Larian's OC druid and pop out his kid, which she wouldn't even do for you
oh nonononononono
The dawn is especially cruel this morning.
I'm sorry that you feel that way, old man.
I always clicked through the intro so that Sarevok would say his lines, then Gorion would just say "You're a fool!" and Sarevok would apparently take offense and attack. I thought this was the height of comedy so I did.
Made for BBC (Big Bard Cock)
Today's my first time playing BG. I chose Chaotic Neutral Sorcerer and I've been zapping people left and right.
I used cheats to warp to Irenicus's dungeon and "start" a new game while Xan was in the party so I could bring him along.
if you want
We delude ourselves to think that our pitiful band can stand up to our enemies.
Xan is able to talk Ajantis down when he clashes with evil party members, effectively postponing a fight between said evil party members and Ajantis. 30 year old boomer game has more indepth npc interaction than modern AAA game
Xan is the true homie. Cant imagine a party without him
Why did they make Aerie racist?
that's just the publicly acceptable reaction to the presence of drow
a shame it's too problematic for 5e
>don't kill the drow
>the drow will kill you while you sleep just for the lulz
FR used to not be retarded like modern man. The only time you would see drow on the surface would be as a raid and murder party.
But Drizzt...
What about him? Always killed that gay as soon as I came across him.
and Nathyrra. Tried to romance her, but failed miserably. On the second try, i made her naked and butchered with one swing.
I'm sure my shifter had lots and lots of fun with Nathyrra, especially in dragon form.
Only white humans can be racist
How are you meant to keep Jaheira happy?
She bitches if your reputation is too high, and bitches if you choose the evil option to lower reputation to get her to shut up.
What the fuck is her problem?
Give her the D
>What the fuck is her problem?
neutral druid harper
ironically her personal quest + romance is actually pretty good
Best weapon proficiency for Fighter/Mage?
BG1
dual daggers
Gorion and Misc are actually the same voice actor
As are Sarevok and the narrator.
here have my portrait
Is that a fucking cigarette????
>Screw your freedom.
>Kill the bitch
They did a really shitty job, the photo she's based on is cute
Imagine the rimming with those eyes
that's not cute. she looks middle aged at 20, she'll look like a vaguely woman shaped blob at 35
She wasn't 20
dont know if it's the lighting but her face has the shape of an egg. Very wide in the middle
Hello child, shall we continue your lessons?
Tutor: Death
This game is incredibly shallow and lifeless.
There is no tactical depth to the gameplay at all, all the difficulty is artificial.
The story is cringey fantasy genre slop.
It's tolerable to play only as long as you're figuring out the system.
I bench press 2 plates for reps fuck you fatasses/skeletons I'm better than you and 100% right
Do you use AI settings or micromanage each character every encounter?
You can do both, you know?
There's a tab in the character info screen that lets you customize the AI for each companion.
only AI I used was one that had everyone pick and attack whatever was closest to them so I could just semi AFK easy fights, micro'd every encounter that I couldn't walk away from and win.
>no romance mod
Were you not paying attention to the plot of the game. Irenicus and Bodhi were both stripped of their emotions and left as unfeeling husks who were willing to do anything to recover what they had lost.
That sounds like a perfect place for a romance.
I can fix her
I vaguely remember a TOB mod that let you bone Irenicus
Why would you steal Imoen's man?
>Emotions
It was more than that, the Seldarine stripped them of their Elven divinity. They are literally soulless husks, the loss of emotions is merely a side effect. This is why they need the divine spark from bhaalspawn.
why does a soulless vampire need an ass this fat
To attract prey presumably
To better drain your ____ with
For sexual arousal of male humans
Why not?
She can suck me dry anyday
I always thought it looked like she was taking a dump.
Still do.
Reminder that the Bhaalspawn in the book literally raped this bitch so hard that he turned into a slayer midway through and impaled her to death.
uhh based, maybe I need to read these books
I assumed they'd be cringe
They are hidden kino. Jaheira for example just straight up has an affair with the Bhaalspawn and has been thirsting for his dick for a while. Imoen also gets raped by Pharea, getting mindbroken into a lesbian in the process, which all things considered it's the best fate she could have sine you know Wizards is never gonna pair her with her brother, so she may as well just fuck chicks only, better than the cuckshit that could have followed if that wasn't the case.
>look up the first review on Audible
>immediately see a screeching feminist
>don't bother
>the narrator is fine, no problem there. that's the last good thing I can find. the author has apparently never met an actual woman and has definitely never successfully talked to one. avoid this if you like the game, the realms, or decent literature. only read if you want to evesdrop on a pathetic teenage fantasy
yup im buying
Well, at least we know the Slayer can fuck.
It also has Imoen realizing she's lesbian after Phaere fucks her. Sounds cool, but the novels are actually complete shit.
The novel was a rough draft made in like a week with zero direction that they published anyways.
It's basically noncanon.
I wish it was canon after the canon we got now
Mommy
She's much cuter in the second game, also I love how her innocence is stripped from her. She should have been a romance option, I don't care if it's incest.
>becomes the canon Bhaalspawn in your path
false
Is this a good card? I don't understand this game
I don't know I haven't played it
#notmycanon
This ability is stupid and has nothing to do with the games
God, I hate WOTC.
Heya anon! It's me Imoen! Just a reminder that no playthrough of Baldur's gate is complete without the Imoen romance mod.
http://imoen.blindmonkey.org/
These can pretty much be voice acted now with AI
Wasn't she a last minute addition because testers didn't like Montaron?
My hotel's as clean as an Elven arse.
>male human
>red portrait with the finger steeple wizard guy
>sorcerer
>evocation
>fuck yeah, time for dnd this is gonna be so coo-
>learn there's already an npc like that
Fuck.
Yeah, but he's kind of an asshole
That's the best part though, because everyone knows he's an asshole and treats him like one.
I honestly liked him. He had that same "fuck you, I'm better" sort of mentality that I was initially roleplaying my character as.
I almost literally made the same character as an NPC. I had to restart and make a new sorcerer, but with more of an emphasis on crowd control and with the guy in the purple robes with his hands up as my portrait, and RP'd him as a manipulative chaotic neutral sort of puppeteer kinda guy. Like those old-ass wojak memes, "this is all just a game to me. Dance little roaches".
>Hey, all the thief companions are evil.
>We should make a good thief companion.
Yes
I love thief companions! They stole my heart!
Ah my child I am glad I have found you
L-love you too Deckard Cain
I can still, after all these years, remember that perfectly. I wish I kept my old disc set, I really love how it folded out, and on the "insert disk X" screens showed What's-His-Face: the evil brother guy.
Oh, what I'd give to go back in time to play this for the first time again on my ancient e-machines PC in my childhood room again, sitting on my shitty wood chair in front of my old wooden office desk with a plate of wheat thins and grapes by my side with a bat man glass of soda, surrounded by CD cases, game boxes, and notes/maps from other games written on graph paper.
Those were the good days.
>get enough money to save Imoen
>buy some sick ass robes instead
That -4 to casting time just can't be beat.
one day I need to actually finish these games, i never did. something's always gone horribly wrong with my computer in the middle of a playthrough, one time my power supply died, another time the hard drive shit the bed.. .never went back to it.
>tfw played through all the BG's and Divinities with my boomer dad
good memories
I played through Divinity 1 recently expecting a CRPG, instead it felt like the devs just glued a bunch of quests from WoW together and called it a game.
Divinity 1 was kind of weak. Especially early on. It had it's moments tho. It's probably my least favorite of all the ones we played
>this is how a 16y.o. looks like in american head.
No wonder mutts often "like" children if youre this old this early.
16 years old was ancient in ye olden times. She would have been married, had 3 kids already, and slave dawn to dusk on the farm for 12 years of her life already.
If you talk about medication being shit during middle ages then this has nothing to do with Fantasy magical realm where only the most stupid of mages require Lichification to achieve immortality.
Literally just cast restoration on self every day or ask a local priest while donating coins.
Most people can't afford healing spells, gold pieces are unironically worth a bunch because they don't have inflation like we do. You'd be lucky to afford lesser restoration once every few years, let alone every day
So Priests are the "garden gnomes" of DnD universe??
No, priests actually pray to and serve their gods, which cannot be said of the garden gnomes since their own mythos is based almost entirely on God punishing them constantly for their disobedience and hubris.
>bait
>replying to bait with more bait
>how dare the others have fun without including me!
Grow up.
What it means by that is that they share the same icon. If you think it's meant to imply cuckoldry, then you have brainrot.
Here's what the description actually looks like.
>BG2 main menu music starts off bold and bombastic like your adventures in BG1
>then turns slow and melancholy to reflect the events of BG2
kino
What is it with RPGs and schizos projecting their cuck fetish onto everything? They're literally everywhere.
The cuck fetish is entirely based around being forced on someone else against their consent. Of course the people into it can't leave others alone, the more it irritates you the harder those gays get.
They're like furries, only worse. A furry is capable of segmenting himself off from society by choice, but NTRoids must constantly violate new ground and find new, wholesome couples to ruin if they're to maintain their erection.
I don't know what rock you've been living under, but cuckshit gets forced into nearly everything
Maybe you're the cuck if you keep seeing it.
But if I'm the cuck, how do you explain my wife's boyfriend?
I don't, but I keep seeing other people who do keep seeing it. I think they just have brainrot.
>tried 2 years ago
>most appallingly boring implementation of an already boring system
should I give it another go
Low level DnD kinda sucks and there's not much you can do about it, and you will hate forests by the time you finish BG1, but you should play it to have proper context for BG2 which is absolute kino
There will never be a greater villain than Irenicus, fucking never.
tried 2 n years ago, not tried 1 2 years ago
That's a shame then, it's a great game, but if it's not for you, it's not for you.
Thoughts about Ascension mod?
Kino. Mandatory for every playthrough. It's the way the game was meant to be played.
I feel sorry for people who got spoiled about you being the child of the god of murder because finding that out for the first time was awesome.
I loved how you heard the prophecy of it right at the start of the game from the chanters in candlekeep, and then it hits you again when you revisit there the 2nd time knowing who you are
Yeah it didn't really feel like all the big a deal to me. The whole bhaal thing was kind of irrelevant in the first game. Even in SoA the plot is more about Irenicus being a bad dude than it is about you being the son of Bhaal.
It doesn't really become a critical plot point until ToB.
>Unironically turn into the Slayer
>It's a big deal when it happens and you scare the absolute shit out of Bodhi when you do it in front of her
It's absolute kino to shift into Slayer form in the fight against Irenicus, especially when he's also in Slayer form.
>hurts your reputation
Worthless. I never use that ability on any playthrough. If they wanted you to use bhaal's power they shouldn't have added such an annoying drawback to it.
Besides, you can't cast while in slayer form which means you can't use timestop, breach, and protection from magic weapons.
>Caring about reputation loss at the end of the game
I don't care about casting in the final phase of the fight either, and it's not as satisfying as treating your friends and enemies to the sight of not one, but two of the blackest expressions of murder known duking it out in HELL. I wish there was good art of it, but there's none that I've found.
>this music comes on
Ho there wanderer, stay thy course a while and indulge an old man.
What's your go-to portrait? For me it's this one (Cleric)
reminds me of billy herrington.
This guy. And I call him Leslie every single time.
>White
>Human
>male
>Cleric
yup its gaming time
I just can't take that meathead seriously.
mine looked like this in BG2
that is badass, anon
That's the guy. It helps that it's not used for any real party member in the game either, just one of the tutorial party in Candlekeep, so I don't feel like I'm "copying" anyone in the game.
>green
>goblin
>male
>mage
my headcanon
I'm with UNATCO
Start talking
U- UNATCO?
>not picking the angry voice
YA GOT THIS COMING!
HA HA! I'll lead em well!
Save me, dear sir, save me...
Get me out of this hellhooooole
I can still hear that last line years later.
Shes michelle from The Room
My biggest question is why the hell does the temple ruins sound like there's a gunfight happening off in the distance.
>Viconia is depicted as a brutal drow dominatrix
>turns out all her bravado was a facade and she just wants a strong man to protect and love her
>Jaheira is depicted as a grieving widow who will never be the same again without Khalid
>she gets over it nearly overnight and starts lusting after her best friend's son
>Aerie is depicted as this naive little girl who's like a daughter to the party
>ends up being the only milf in the game
Was this all meant to be character development, or subverting our expectations?
>If you romance Viconia, she gets killed
>You go on a one man crusade against the entire Drow race and Lolth
Damn it all
>The Virgin Lolth: Keeps all the drow as playthings for her entertainment
>The Chad Bhaalspawn: Kills his way accross the world over the only one that mattered to him
>nearly overnight
she spends like 50% of her romance having nightmares about his death and being gloomy about losing everyone important to her, nearly the other half is about being betrayed by a splinter ground of Harpers and the romance itself only starts in the last few events
seems like everyone who parrots this never actually went through her entire quest
Well Jaheira was told to take care of you, she took it too literally. She was pragmatic about it, how else to stick around like Gorion wanted AND tend to you.
So does he have someone else's face stitched over his or what? I don't remember it ever being explained in game.
It's just a cowl. You should be asking what happened to his ears, since he's an elf and all.
Why would he look like this when he didnt even have a private gym in his dungeon?
he had just cast strength
that's from EE right? always looked off to me
I never considered it could just be weird clothing
I think he lost his pointy ears due to the curse he's under
Give it to me straight as someone who hasn't played Divinity 2 - can Larian write a good serious story and characters?
It's so bad it can't really be described with words. Just play either Original Sin game, you will understand. It's art, in a way.
I played the first and it felt like the writers didn't have confidence so they had to inject a little comedy into almost every interaction. Which can work if done properly (like the Discworld books) but it wouldn't make sense for a Baldur's Gate game.
I don't know, I can't really see how the story would have worked. The plot is about "saving the world" but it just doesn't feel that way. The cultist subplot, which goes on for the good half of the game, ends up being nothing, the villain is atrocious and the devs' attempts flesh her out through sibling rivalry and love triangle were pathetic. Hell, Zandalor didn't even react when both of them died near the end.
I believe there isn't a single part in the writing of OS1 that was done well.
