They are only good when getting them unlocks something. other than that it's simply clout chasing and pointless.

if they dont unlock things in games , they are worthless

This. No more homosexualy buying cosmetics. Earn them by completing achievements

There should be an option to soft disable them once you unlock them so that you can pop the achievement again.

Having it be a one-and-done thing is stupid. Maybe I just like the little popup box, okay?

    I fully ignore them
I don't even get the achievement pop-ups in steam anymore and I'm not sure why, but I genuinely can't be bothered to fix it

Dont care. Have never attempted to 100% a game.

is a good way to have more hours in a game, so of course devs push stupid shit. Also, if you love a game you might want to 100%
Sometimes i do achievements 4 fun
Also wtf do people cheat achievements, we know you are a cheater idiot

I'd rather have them than not, as a minor incentive to actually finish a game or play it in a different way.

    >Finish game
    >15 out of 94 achievements unlocked
Depends on how they're implemented. You get something like what I mentioned then it completely ruins finishing a game, makes me feel like I missed out on the vast majority of it when it's typically not the case.

Cool if they aren't easily hackable, steam achievements are absolutely useless for that exact reason.
Self-imposed challenges are usually better though.

During Xbox 360 years I had 100% on COD4 and MW2, and Halo 3... Taking the gnome throughout half life 2 ep 2 or 3 or whatever was the last ridiculous thing I did for a game (100% orange box on xbox 360).

On steam I only 100% helldivers 2 and Titanfall 2 without much effort (and I enjoy those games). If I complete a game that felt like a chore and its only 10% done like another anon said, I won't even bother. There are more important things in life than dragging yourself into a digital job that is unrecognizable to anyone outside of the playerbase, and even then what do you get out of it all anyway? You already paid for the game, and it won't pay you back when trying to earn these. Perhaps it is meant for those who are enveloped into the product.

Only people that seem to profit are achievement/trophy hunters on youtube that tell you how to.

I think they're dumb. They were a neat concept like 15+ years ago. Compare how far you got in a game with your friends. But then the autistic people noticed them and it became a weird grind for all of them and they don't even compare them to other people it's just some solo grind for validation in life

Useless. I don't care how many people did what I did or what the developers think I should do. Just let me play the fricking game.

      idea for a videogame
you need at least 50 achievements to play the next chapter

I don't care for them outside of Paradox grand strategy games since they get me to play shit I normally wouldn't.

I love them. They have made some games last over 150 hours just trying to chase everything

I've got a love/hate relationship with them. I like when they encourage novel play; like not collecting any coins in a Mario level with lots of coins, or surviving for X amount of time without attacking. It's fun replaying games in ways you'd never have any other reason to play that way. I also like having "proof" that I did something. Gaming is already a huge waste of time, but having something to show for the time investment is better than nothing. I despise lazy achievements like "collect 100 rings" or whatever. Basic progression milestones is one thing, but arbitrary "get a powerup" stuff seems pointless.
